Since you quoted Budget and Office ride, If you can wait for few more months and add up more Gndhiji's (if needed), Wait for CBR650F, japaneese, Honda Engine, Good reliability, Since its going to the first CKD from Honda, I guess A.S.S should be of top notch to lure more customers.

Has wind shield to protect you from windblast, Much lighter than Z800 by atleast 25 kgs, decent power.

Mainly have been a 'Bullet' guy, having owned 3 of them in the past (Electra 350, Lightning 500 and the Classic 500). I think I've outgrown the 'Bullet' fanaticism to a large extent (no disrespect to current Bullet owners intended). Make no mistake, I think they are great motorcycles inspite of all the quirks that come along with them. But I'm beyond them now!

With time, the financial situation has also improved and hence, I can now afford to own a more expensive proposition. Moreover, the Indian motorcycle has seen a sea-change from the dreary days of the early 2000s. They are more and more options at our disposal. More power to the customer!

So, I'm in the market for a motorcycle with a budget of 8-10 lacs. I'm 5'10", well-built chap, weigh around 85 kilos.

Thinking out loud, here are my requirements:

1. Will be mainly a lifestyle vehicle. My daily drive is going to be a four-wheeler (Fiesta 1.6 S). Although, I would not rule out the occasional city jaunt to work either!
2. Ideally I'd like to go for a 'new' one but I would not rule out a pre-worshipped one either New one. Hmmm. Street triple/speed triple/Z800/Ninja 650. Pre-worshiped FZ1/CB1000R
3. Good touring capabilities (I devour miles once I hit the road Ninja 650 should be the first option here. 2nd can be a tie triples and the z800
4. Reasonably good availability of spares in Mumbai/Pune (CBUs may have trouble with this aspect, I reckon!) kawasaki 1st option. Also the triumphs wont be much of an issue TBH.
5. Respectable fuel efficiency Define respectable
6. Don't have to sell my house to repair for a fall (God forbid! ) Street/speed triple/z800/ any naked.
7. Reliable A.S.S Honda/Yamaha/Kawasaki/Triumph
8. Does not have to be a go-anywhere motorcycle.

I know that there are now a plethora of options to choose from or so it seems! It is a big purchase, so I want to make sure I'm ticking all the boxes. I have time on my hand so I'd love to hear from fellow xbhpians.

Appreciate your thoughts, folks.

Replies in bold.

Z800 or St3 if you are not doing extensive touring. Nakeds are not too comfortable at high speeds for long rides. I have done 1500 km long ride in st3 apart from the wind all is fine. Saddle is awesome.

Note: st3 is doubted to be detuned to 79 ps. If it's true it's foolish to put 9L on that bike.

Now about the sound, an all on a triple: Though in my opinion, z800 looks better than st3, I picked the triple for its motor, lightness (just 47 kg lighter ) and much better chassis.

Now if you will like sustained high-speed runs with comfort, Ninja 650, or z1000 sx.(you have to increase budget for it, but worth that)

Waiting is not my thing so can't talk about cbr 650 etc.

wanderlustindia.

I'll a little biased towards Striple. Its a phenomenal package and fits right in your budget. Its a fine looking machine. If you are strictly into inline fours then this will not fit the bill. Its a capable tourer. Do check it out in person.

Do check out the Tiger 800 XC if you need a hardcore tourer.

If you are not looking for extensive touring then Z800 is the machine to go for.Looks good.Sounds good and comes well under your budget.

8-10 lacs and if I were you would choose between z 800 and triumph . I wouldn't worry about detuning as it is way safer for long trips and ordinary petrol .i would re flash my ecm to lower spec of the kawa if I were traveling to far off places

Street triple is not a great option for long touring. And the way triumph displayed unethical business practices and the way they treated it's customers need to considered as well.

And spending 9L on a 79 ps bike not a great idea. That too for touring.

Ninja 650 or er6n makes more sense. For that matter.

Touring = Benelli 600 GT tourer with the 28 litre tank whatever it is called.

TNT 899 if no touring is needed.

Z800 or Ninja 650. The Ninja is specially capable of long distance touring with ease.
Also Triumph Bonneville is a very good option for long tours.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

The new Kawasaki Er6n is also a good option.
