  • Looking to buy a new bike.

    Hey.

I just turned 18 and am looking to buy my first bike. I am 6ft tall and weigh roughly 50 kgs. I've just learned to ride a bike so I would like a bike that is forgiving as this will be only my second bike I've ridden (after splendor, which I learnt in). My budget is around 60k if I decide to buy a new bike. Else I'll settle for a used bike.

    thanks in advance.

    What bike query approved!

Andy, you're severely under-weight for a 6 ft guy. Anyways, you gave your budget and height/weight BMI stuff, what's the intended purpose?
City riding? Then take a Test Ride of all 125cc mills out there.

Also, read through the myriad threads in what bike section which cater to similar requirements as yours!
    Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

6 ft tall and only 50 kgs! Sorry dude, but are you sure about your weight? It seems you're lean enough. At your budget 100-125 cc bikes will come, or you may have to stretch your budget for some of them. A Suzuki Slingshot can be a good bike for you. Costing around 65k, its a decent looker, economial (60 kmpl), 5-gear patterned and smooth bike.

try Igniter from Hero motocorp, and Stunner from Honda, if you want style (which you will, coz you're 18).
Honda Shine is another 125cc machine. Bajaj discover range(100-125cc) is also an option.

          Good humour Arnab!

IMO, you can try out the Discover 125, Honda Stunner and Yamaha SS125. All of them suits taller riders.
Discover 125 - Goov value for money. Better than previous Discovers.
Honda Stunner - Relaible Honda. Stylish for your age.
Yamaha SS125 - Uncoventional looks but solid on performanec and reliabilty.

welcome to biking. it will take more than 1 lakh kms to become an average rider.

used bike makes sense, bro... you can learn without much sentiments... save money now, learn, graduate and buy a good upgrade of around 200cc after 1-2 years.
now you need not go for bikes older than 2 years / 30000 kms odo... so spend some 50000 on bike, with 15000 buy some good safety gears. and some bike / safety gear care kit.

visit some showrooms and service centres. im sure they will get you some bikes that are almost brand new at very lesser price. all the best.

Don't buy used bikes, they are a hassle for newbie bikers. I'm a mechanic and even I got fed up with used bikes, better buy a 125cc motorcycle and sell it after 2-3 years.
                I am back!

nothing comes free... when he opts for a second hand, some money is surely saved. and to get this money there is some work needed, thats what you term as hassle...

now as we presume that he is newbie, i suggest him to visit few ASS and try for some helping hands ( maybe he will have to offer some commission ). He will surely get a bike thats still in company warranty... Going with a few people in ASS, say SA or 2 technicians, he will have relations that can be used for repair works later on.

I dont think people will simply screw him royally for small bucks. He also has help here. Say, he makes few choices and brings in all details, we all can compare and suggest the best.

A 1 year old bike under warranty, can be got at around 40000 which is sold at 60000+, isnt? proper service history, tyre life, body cleanliness, look out for rust, a redline Test Ride for few miles, etc can help him fire faster.

Re: Looking to buy a new bike.

                    I have the same query.
I also have just turned 18 and I am planning to buy a bike.
                    I am 5 ft 7' and i weigh around 60 kg.
I don't have must biking experience, just few months with TVS Star City.
As I've just learned to ride a bike,so my Dad is not allowing me to take a bike above 125 CC.
                    I have shortlisted 2 bikes:
                    Honda Twister And Honda Stunner.
As i am a newbie and after reading reviews of Honda twister,i got to know that there is some problem with gear shifting.
So i just wanted to ask will that be dangerous for me or i can adjust to it?
Any other suggestion is always appreciated
                    Thank you

Re: Looking to buy a new bike.

I was considering stunner until I heard that it causes many problems. I don't know to what extent that is true tho. Anyway buying a used bike might be hard for me as my dad only owns a car and doesn't know much about bikes. I could go through a second hand dealer but it would cost me extra. Would it be worth it?
I am not power hungry as I will be using it for ciity riding only, so 100 or 125 cc will do.

                      p.s I do eat a lot. Just doesn't show.

                      anyway thanks a lot guys.
