  • 150CC or more CC bike that is comparable to Suzuki GS150R

    Dear All,

This post is for my friend. I own a Suzuki GS150R for the last 2.5 Yrs. I am very much satisfied with its performance and build quality. The best we like about GS150R is the engine refinement and power delivery in each gear. My friend owns a pulsar 150 for the last 8 yrs and now wants to go for a new bike. His requirements are as follows:

    1. Should be a commuter bike
    2. Should be 150 or more CC
    3. With a refined engine (comparable to GS150R) and decent mileage
    4. Good build quality
    5. Good service network

Actually my friend is little apprehensive of suzuki ownership and hence looking for a bike other than GS150R. Please help us. Thanks.

Kindly provide the following info too:
    1. Budget?
    2. Intended use (city/highway/both)?
    3. Friend's height/weight?
    4. Any physical fitness concerns (medically)?
    Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

      1. Budget: Ok this is crazy. We are ready for anything between 1L to 2.5L. But the main concern is that it should be a commuter bike
      2. The bike will be used in both City and Highway conditions (In Chennai)
      3. 5.9"/95 KG/Age 34
      4. No Physical issues

By commuter, do you mean a comfortable riding stance + plush seats? In the current market (leaving the to-be launched bikes aside), nothing below the Inazuma then which is off budget. What can you compromise from your requirements?

BTW, have you test ridden any bike in RE stable?

Yes. I do mean a comfortable riding stance with good seating. No firing or naked looks. I myself will no recommend Inazuma, cause of the cost factor.
We have a RE classic in our family and hence don't want one more RE. Furthermore, it is not very comfortable in city driving with RE.

I have not ridden a P200NS and was not able to advice about it. Can the refinement and build quality of NS comparable with GS150R?

Build quality is as good if not better, but GS's engine is smoother. NS makes more power and quite a lot of it in the high revs, so expecting it to be very smooth isn't right.

The only bike I can think of is CBZ Xtreme, still I would not suggest it. ZMA R too comes to mind, but neither fills all the criteria. The riding posture of 200NS is pretty aggressive and the motor is short stroke one with short gearing, so it is not a bike for relaxed riding.
              I am back!

Well things are getting murkier now
I am not able to completely convince my friend abt GS150R. Infact everything fits the bill here, but except for SVC of Suzuki. That is the only sore point that holds me in pushing him further. I have asked him to wait for P 400CS. But it seems that it might take another 2 yrs before we can see the bike.

The problem is that the current bike he owns (pulsar 150) is in very bad shape (7 yr old) and HAS to look for another bike.

How does the following bike stake up against GS150R:
                1. CB Trigger
                2. Hero Hunk
                3. Hero Xtreme
                4. Yahama FZ S/FZ 16

If he plans for an 'upgrade', ZMR will suit him as per his requirements.
Else, among the same power class, FZ/Trigger will do.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

ZMR with it fairing doesn't suit his age and thats what he believes. After a series of contemplation we have decided to go ahead with CB Trigger and will wait for CS400 for couple of years.

Mods: Please close this thread. I will publish the ownership review shortly. Thanks
