  • CBR250r or wait for SS400

Dear all xBHPans. Greetings from Assam. I am a new member here. I am being following XBHP since long back and finally decided to be a proud member. I do not possess much knowledge about machines but XBHP has surely given me the basics. I belong to the city Guwahati and ride an Apache 150. I want to upgrade to a more powerful machine and was searching for a suitable one since couple of months. I was almost sold to the big bike look of the hyosung gt250r but realized that i have to stretch my budget too much and also it gives a pain to know it is sold in way lesser price in other countries. Finally have decided to go for CBR250r new edition in red or black colour (could not decide on colour yet, suggestions are welcome).

Now i am again confused whether to go for it or shall i wait for the launch of Pulsar SS400. I am already in a desperate stage for a new bike and have done all the financial calculations/ arrangements for the CBR250r. I am looking forward for your suggestions and kindly share if anyone have any update regarding the launch of SS400 any time sooner.

Here i would like to share that the roads of Guwahati are not very wide and very often i face snail like moving traffic as i commute mostly within the city and at the most 2 monthly long rides on high ways. Therefore i am seriously worried about the heat to be generated from the machines (i thing a 400cc bike will generate more heat). Trying to take a rational decision and want your feedback/suggestions.

P.S.:- I may sound more inclined towards CBR250r but that is only because it is already available in the market. I am sure i can resist my desperation for a better and future proof buy.

    Thanks in advance

      Welcome to xBhp Nitul!

Reading your post, I can make out that you want a fully-faired and tourer friendly bike that can also handle high traffic situations well. Some options currently in this category are, the new karizmas freshly launched and the CBR.

However the CBR is not much suited for high traffic riding. A bike that provides good low-mid range torque and can prove as an able tourer is the pulsar 200 NS. But that's a naked bike.

Waiting for the 400SS might prove long for you as you have said that you are desperate for a two-wheeler.

The KTM RC twins will get launched before the faired pulsars, you can consider them too if you dont mind the aggressive riding posture.

The HX250R will also take a lot of time to get launched.

So considering all these options, I feel..

      1. Go for the CBR250R if your need for an urgent bike is really pressing. You can never go totally wrong with it.
      2. Test ride the new ZMR and see if it suits you. Will save a lot of money too over CBR.
      3. Wait for other bikes to be launched. Good days are coming You might find what you need if you are willing to wait.

Liked your suggestion. I think its better to go for the CBR250r for the time being and save some money to buy a 400cc or 500cc 2-3 years down the line. Moreover i have a dream to own a liter class super bike which will definitely not be a day to day commuter. In this scenario i may even wait 3-4 years and jump to a liter class bike while ill have the CBR250r for daily commute. Please suggest.

First get a bike now. CBR 250R is a more logical choice considering the fact that initial batches of RCs/Pulsars/Heroes etc (all bikes do) will have some niggles and would take 6-8 months to get sorted out. A litre class is no joke. Maintenance + spares need deep pockets and more importantly time. You'll also mature with time and realize the pointers.

May you get a litre class one day, but get a commuter for yourself soon.
          Until then!

Can you just put some light on expected launch date of some 250 cc+ fully faired bikes. My heart is going with the CBR250r but mind is saying to wait a bit for more powerful freshly designed options as i can see many bike manufacturers are eyeing this segment in india

Re: CBR250r or wait for SS400

The launch dates are anybody's guess. But most recently coming in this year would be (in recent-to-later order) -

              1. RC series from KTM
              2. Mahindra Mojo(naked 300cc)
              3. Faired pulsars(many expect them to come around the festive season)

              HX250R might come next year

And nobody knows about the Yamaha R25 plan for India

I think your plan of going ahead with CBR now and waiting for a liter class is better than getting so confused about quarter liters for now. You need a bike right now? Go get the CBR!

Re: CBR250r or wait for SS400

Better alternative - used CBR250 for now, while you wait for SS400. CBRs are costing only 85K-1.1L for well maintained ones. CBR will be soon upgraded to 300cc, so plan your buy carefully. I m praying for SS400 too...

An old model ZMA-R new bike (find out if stock exists with some dealers) is not bad either. It is much more comfortable in bumper-to-bumper traffic and does a bit of off-road too if you head for the Himalayas on long tours. I ve seen plenty of ZMA-Rs in Assam, even in rural areas so you should have plenty of company.

I was in Guwahati in April on my Hero Impulse...and had a great time there. Excellent Assamese food!

Re: CBR250r or wait for SS400

Why are you only inclined towards full faired bikes pulsar 200ns is a very good bike and will fullfill all your needs, honda's cbr 250r is a reasonably ok bike nothing special in it only fact that differ the bike is inclusion of ABS plus there is a new model of cbr with 300cc gonna be released soon, plus honda has got pathetic ASS although i don't know about Assam, purchasing a new bike now and then selling it in just two or three years is not easy you won't get anything when you will sell it, these litre class bikes don't return good money when you try to sell them, purchase a bike which you can keep for atleast 5 years. But if you are desperate for cbr250r then go ahead, search all of the info about the bike plus after sale service in your region and the availability of the spares of the bike.
