  • which second bike?

    Hi Guyz,

I follow xbhp forum on a regular basis.

I need help on my Second Bike.
I bike a lottt..a lott...for the past 6 years I have been riding Apache RTR 160. I travel pretty much to anyplace. ( I do heavy city rides as well as I go places, my once-in-two-weeks-trips include Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai.
I like testing the bike limits. As, my Odometer reads 82000, I feel that its time to let go off my bike and get a new one. My poor apache's engine is giving up on a regular basis these days . Esp. the oil usage/leaks is so common these days that my engine just locked in the middle of nowhere.

I have been wanting to own a RE Classic 500 for a while now.
Now I feel I will have trouble transitioning from sporty bike to a cruiser bike (I got so used to the Throttle response of Apache so much that I am not sure if I am ready for the cruising style of Enfield.)
So I wanted to go for another sporty bike and then transition to RE. ( but you can probably help me getting over this feeling )
I know this seems really unfair to bring in two categories of bikes for choice, but as some point we have to take such decision.

I am also open for any other options in the budget range of RE Classic 500.
FYI I kinda like naked designs.

I have been reading about Hyosung gd250n which apparently has no ABS. Also, its nowhere to be seen in the market yet.

I kinda like RTR 180 - ABS too, but not that I have already owned RTR 160, I dunno if I should go for it.???

I wanted to know if there are any bikes coming up in this range.

    Thanks in Advance

KTM RC 200 is soon to be launched in India. You can wait a bit to own it; else KTM Duke 200 is also a good option for you. Both look superb and you'll love the throttle response. Maintain your bike well and ged rid of issues.

No rtr 180 if you got 160 already. My advise get d390.All the issues can be rectified with some will and help from Xbhp fellow members. Also try to get apache issue solved and use it as a city bike.

If you've been wanting to own the RE C500 for a while, get one. Every other bike will disappoint your heart.

          Thanks hawk!
I am refraining from Duke 200 just coz it has no ABS. With that kinda power, I feel ABS is a must. It might be a silly reason for many, but that's what I am looking for.

Recently a friend of mine suggested me ceeber250R but seems like there is a revamped version around the corner not sure when (though its not a naked design, its kinda likeable)

I think I will have to wait for few more months for new launches

And about my RTR, I maintain it real well, Touch-wood, it had no issues, but with all the riding, the oil empties very soon these days; I have rectified the issue, but its costing me a lot

Ya, but I recently changed my mind, I wanted to taste the flavor of another speedy one before I "finally" go to RE Classic .

(Also, I am short and have less upper body strength to handle RE atleast )

Ya thats what I thought, I love RTRs but owning it Again would be kinda boring.
Too bad we have really few options left; D390 and CBR250R (been suggested); and with all the "launches" ahead; I am thinking of waiting for few months.

            To confuse you further ,

I suggest you to check out RE Continental GT. Because If I want a second ride, I wanted it to be exclusive (Of course in my budget). You can test its limits unlike other REs and it will satisfy your RE dream as well.

On a second thought, considering your mileage in 160 in past 6 years, it also makes sense to stick to 150cc segment, a CBR or R15 for that matter can challenge your skills and provide good FE.

If KTM, I would suggest for 200 as its fun and you can test the limits more often than a 390. For me I also have ABS in my brains and wrist as well.

The new KTM RC 200 will have ABS. Wait for it. It will be launched anytime this year. And its gonna be a pride of the owners.

                Re: which second bike?

I really think the D390 will give you your fix of having a diverse set in your garage. You can get your Apache fixed and really have fun on the Duke. Getting a 200cc will be a kind of replacement for your Apache... if you want a second bike, get something diverse.... something around 250cc so you feel the difference and have latitude to choose during your umpteen rides.

Honda 250r or 300r when it launches maybe?

The issues about the D390 are just normal stuff, ive met more owners satisfied than cribbing, they may try to problem solve on forums but ask them if they'll give their d390 up?... i'd trust RE also too have such girlfriend like mood swings and issues but if your ride thrills you... you really wont mind chasing after her a bit during her mood swings.

If you can test ride some and get back with what you feel when you ride with them... we can come to a solid decision.

Have fun choosing your next ride mate.

                Cheers.

From RE I only like Classic series till now, GT seems fine, but the riding position is no fun on a daily basis. I know I am being very picky, but its important.
the minute I started exploring beyond 160cc, i almost ignored mileage

I will mostly be selling my RTR and go with a new one. I am keen on CBR series for now, but I read recently that they launched a revamped version of CBR 250R in indonesia; So I am waiting for the new launches along with other Bikes. I dont know when, but I am waiting
                  Thanks for the advice Vykier!
