  • bike for touring

    hi dear all,
i,m a newbie in xbhp.currently i own 125 cc steed suzuki heat.i'm interested in touring long distances in bike (more than 300 km to less than 700 km/day).i need a bike with good top speed (better acceleration in top end).will be cruising between 80-100 kph.better braking & stability during high speeds.bike should not largely affected by crosswinds(pls note largely, everybody knows most of the bikes will be affected by crosswinds, but to which extent is important).good handling & braking is important.a bike maynot be 100% perfect, but if u suggest any bike with simple modifications,it would be fine.those suggetions are also needed.budget is within 1.6 lakhs.fuel efficiency is not an issue.50% of the rides will be with my wife.(getting married this month).but won't carry much luggage. pls eventhough pillion would not be so comfy ride should not behorrible for them with vibes)

my height is 5 feet 6 inches and weight is 59.pls help me out with your valuable suggestions.i'm working in ranchi,native-chennai

I would suggest you to test ride both ZMA and TBTS. In 50% of the cases you will ride with a pillion. Take that into consideration also while choosing the bike.

My choices would be as below (In the order of preference.)
Karizma R -- Ideal (VFM, reliable and time tested)
Thunderbird (TBTS)-- ( Smooth on good roads, but ride isnt comfortable for pillion on Bad roads)
Pulsar 220-- Refinement not top notch
          Avenger 200

Since you have a big budjet..you can also look at a used Comet or a Aquila, however spares and reliablity will be a issue

Avenger 200 is also a good option there!

+1. You will never regret. It can cruise all the day at 80-100 kmph (literally 24 hours a day) without any fuss. Refinement is top notch. Stability, handling, and breaking are excellent.

Take a good hard look at the Karizma...
If the ride position is comfortable for your height, I think its a perfect fit.
TBTS is a machine in a different league, but again it comes with its own set of issues just like any RE.
Also consider the Avenger 200. I have been using the 180, its not very refined just like any other Bajaj bike. The power and acceleration are good but the gearbox is not refined. Spares are cheap and available freely. Reliability is good. Handling is very good if you are a straight line rider, no flicking, no excessive leaning etc. Braking is also good. Overall it feels SOLID on the road, no issues at all. Overall a good cruiser.

                  My choices
                  1. Karizma
                  2. Avenger 180/200

-- TB only if you want to go for a RE.

220 would have been my choice if not for the pillion !!
Better bike at higher speeds, superior braking, least affected to cross winds - more stable in straight line, first choice for night touring (very much possible if you are targetting > 500 kms a day).
Note : can't comment on RE's because of riding inexperience in these.

I own a 220 myself and its been great on touring. After about 10 hours on a bike, wrists will start paining but thats about it.

But with a pillion.. its a strict no no.

The rear seat is very uncomfortable. Better to go for a Zma in this case. Not a big fan of the RE

                        @beowulf

one of my known person, who is using avenger for more than 5 months says,it is fine on good roads, giv awesome grip also, pillion has back rest also.but on rough roads (read bad roads) all the shocks and bumps will be transferred to your spine..don't feel bad.i'm just saying his experience.
