  • Used Bike

    Hello to all xbhpians.
I have been dreaming for long of owning a bike, and was quite close to buying one, but the damned recession reared it's ugly head. Was about to become an employee from a trainee in the ad agency im working at by December, but since all organisations are downsizing, i couldnt get the job and am still a trainee.

Anyway, enough of the sob story. I was planning to get a fz 16, but since that is not happening anytime soon, im thinking of going in for a second hand bike.

Right now, my priority is not putting in too much money, neither on buying teh bike nor on petrol. so im looking for a 100-125 cc bike.

My budget is around 15 k. I travel almost 50 kms daily.

What do you guys think will i get in my budget?

    your help is anticipated.

      hi there vaibhava

the used bike scenario is more of a lucky pick.

you need to have a real good mechanic on your side to test the bike before you put your money on it.

frankly i would suggest though not to hurry.

      the recession is not permanent.

so i would suggest you wait it out.
nothing like owning a new beauty.

i really have bad experience with 2nd hand bikes.

      Cheers

      Avin

^^ Totally agree with him. Dont go for a second hand bike unless you get it from a friend who used it personally and well. Not a 2nd hand Bajaj - I feel they give more troubles as they grow old. Better go for a Hero Honda - Splendour/passion. But, its really a lucky pick.
I suggest you wait till you are able to get FZ 16. I own it and its awsome.

Yeah, even i dont want to go in for a used bike. was thinking that i have waited so long for a bike, so will buy a bike only when i have the dough to get a new one, but the problem is the commuting everyday between office and home.

In advertising, as in almost all fields these days, there are no fixed timings. I live almost 25 kms from my office, and that too outside delhi, i mean in the NCR. There is no public conveyance that i can rely on. Takes me almost 2 hours to reach home from office. A bike is really necessary for me now. i used to ride a scooter, a relative's, and it took me about an hour covering the same distance. Had to return it though.

It's a pain, and im enduring it twice everyday. Have had enough.

              Vaibhava,

Since you work in the NCR, you could try looking for bikes being sold in Bulletin Boards of various IT firms. The techies going abroad on postings usually sell their usually 1-3 yr old bikes cheap as they need to travel on short notice periods. These bikes usually aren't overly abused. So, try taking that route.

I agree with above. Wait for things to improve if you can.

On the other hand if you really HAVE to go then try to get a second hand HH Passion or Splendor. Recently one of my relatives got a second hand HH Splendor for 12K. And its really good. Of course try to get it from soneone you know. And I am giving you these options since you need a bike with good average for travelling 50kms everyday.
                Enna Rascalla. Mind it !!!

One good thing about buying 2nd hand is that you wont loose thru depreciation! When you have money, you may even be able to sell the thing around cost price or bit less.

But be very careful in choosing - else you may get a problem bike in your hands.

                    thanks for the suggestions guys.

My mech, who is a trustworthy guy, showed me a bike today. It's a '01 Bajaj Kawasaki Caliber. The engine seemed to be pretty good ( My mech said, and i also asked one of my neighbour who has been riding bikes for over 20 years). It has a new rear tyre and also some other things like the piston and stuff. I think can get it in around 12k, what do you guys think? Is it ok or can i get a better deal?

                    @jayprashanth
How do i go about it? i have no clue. Would be very thankful if you could point me in the right direction.

the caliber is a good bike but a 01 model is a 8 year old and in the world of modern indian four strokes thats ancient..
and its out of production too..regardless of the condition it is always better to get a bike that is still in production to get a decent resale value..

                          Vaibhava,

You might be having friends in the NCR who work for IT firms. Ask them to check their bulletin boards for moving out sales and get back to you. I'm pretty sure that there will be plenty of decent condition-decently priced bikes up for sale. Even, BPO guys might be able to help you as most large IT firms have BPO operations which share the bulletin board.
