  • Yamaha R15 V2 or Honda CBR 250R

    Hello all,

This is my first post in this forum though I have been a member for a long time. I live in Chennai.

I currently own a 2006 Pulsar 150 dtsi (guess its UG2, with headlight fairing, alloy wheels, ignition kill switch) and am in need of a new bike. I did not think about buying a new motorcycle since I mostly use my car. But off late, the biker in me has woken up and have been reading reviews after reviews and have almost decided on getting a Yamaha R15 V2.

But I also read that its more of a track oriented machine and may not be suitable for daily long rides. My office is 30kms away and I travel 60 kms each day in my Pulsar. I also read that CBR 250R is more suitable for these distances due to its driving position and large engine. But the OTR of CBR comes around 1.7 lakhs and that of R15 comes around 1.2L which is a huge difference to me.

To put it simply, below are my requirements.

    1. Cruising speed of 90Kmph.
    2. Daily drive of 60km (20 in city, 40 in highways)
    3. FE ~ 35-40
    4. Reliability

My height is 5.6 and I just would like to know if R15 will suit my needs. I don't bother much about pillion comfort as I can use my Pulsar for such requirements.

    Thanks.

    HI,

    Try CBR 150 or Karizma.

But between R15 and CBR 250, I would choose CBR.

        No r15...due to seating position
        Cbr 250 good,very good
Else go for karizma zmr 118000 on road with good mileage figure 40 plus

Re: Yamaha R15 V2 or Honda CBR 250R

The R15 satisfies all your needs with less money than CBR 250R.

          1. Cruising speed of 90Kmph.
You can do 100+ all day long, and R15 will be happy to go for more at the end of the day.
          2. Daily drive of 60km (20 in city, 40 in highways)
good low and medium end torque to make city travels easier. very very stable on high speeds, the grip, the control on the bike is superb even at 100+ speeds.
          3. FE ~ 35-40
I'm getting 35-40 in city traffic and 45+ on highways.
          4. Reliability
Not many companies can match the build quality and reliability of Yamaha.

The only negative thing in a R15 is its aggressive seating posture, You'll have to bend quite a bit to reach the handle bars. Due to this many people complain about wrist pains and back pains. I ride about 30 kms in a day and felt the wrist pain and back pain in the beginning, but it went away after about 2 weeks. And now I enjoy every moment of my riding.
there are also people who use R15s as touring bikes and do 100s of kms a day on it and still dont have any discomfort. 60 Kms a day is quite a lot and may cause you back and wrist pains.

So get the R15 if you are really fit, or you will get terrible back pains, and in about 2 weeks it will get so bad that you will not touch the bike.

The CBR250R is expensive of course, but the seating position is upright and relaxed.
Test drive both the vehicles, and get the one that suits you best.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Thanks a lot people for your quick responses. As suggested I'll do a test drive of R15 in this weekend and decide. The only thing that makes me think twice from getting the 250R is its price. And I read a lot of reviews of CBR150R not having an engine kill switch or pass light and cheap switches. For a machine costing more than R15, for me, its not acceptable.

I thought R15 would be too aggressive for tall riders. Do you think it'll be the same for my height also (5.6)?

If you dont have a past with back pains etc. You are good to go with the R15. At the beginning it will take toll on you,but on continuous usage your body will sync with the riding position..! Reliability is a tad better with the Yamaha, parts are more expensive..! My vote goes to the honda anyway because of its high speed stability, touring ergonomics, comfy pillion seat(you wont be needing the pulsar at all.!..sell it ..) And take the T.D ASAP or we will make you more confused

I'm 5 feet 8 inches tall, and am very comfortable riding R15. Please take a test ride and then decide.
If you do go for R15 don't worry about the wrist pains for first 15 days, its normal and will go away.

CBR250R in my opinion. It is a good ride and gives enough space for the rider and the pillion as well. Gives good mileage and power. It is also reliable.

R15's pillion seat is not so comfortable. The wrist pain due to riding R15 will be gone when you get used to it (as one of our friend said).

Try taking a test ride of both the bikes. And heard news about CBR250r getting an upgradation. So just enquire before taking it.

Duke will also do the job but for a pillion it may become a nightmare.

R15 is cheaper than CBR. But Honda offers ABS and Honda is more reliable. Don't go for CBR150 (only CBR250r).

KTM Duke is good for the price. Give lot of goodies and is priced at a decent level too. Doesnt have an ABS. It offers an upright position and a decent mileage.

R15 is okay for your height.

                      My 2 cents...

You own a 150cc already. Get the CBR250r for better latitude and choice for different riding situations (hyper reliable and bang on perfect for 60kms mixed riding per day).

Yup although do test the machines and get back for sharper more informed decision.

                      All the best mate.

Yes the R15 is just a 150cc but does any pulsar 150 gives 17bhp of power, fuel injection system, combined with a bunch of sensors monitoring the engine and all the vital components of the bike.
Add liquid cooling, and MotoGP winner delta box chassis, which is taken directly from R6 and R1. A fairing that makes the bike both aerodynamic and an eye candy. Yamaha build quality, reliability, engine refinement, semi slick tubeless radial tires and dual disc brakes.

Now add this all and tell me that it is not a proper upgrade from a pulsar 150.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.
