  • The KTM Questions. Duke 200 to Duke 390, OK. Wait, Adventure 390?!

I have been planning to get myself a new set of wheels for a while now. I figured that the KTM Duke 200 would be perfect for me. Rode one around for a bit, it handles like a dream and I loved that rev happy engine. So I get in touch with KTM, told them that it rains a lot where I live and asked if they would be releasing the 200 with ABS anytime soon; aslo about what tires they would recommend.
They were pretty prompt with their reply, informed me that there were no plans to release a ABS kit Duke 200 anytime soon and advised me to check out the 390; with its ABS and Metzeler M5s.
I did, it's brilliant! Actually seems a bit more sane then the 200; probably the gear ratios or something; its definitely lower and much easier to shimmy down the twisties.
Great, thought I! All sorted, get my cash together and go get myself a mobike. NOT!
Just saw that KTM might be releasing a Adventure 390! That would be perfect for me! Larger shocker play, re-tuned engine for more low end grunt, different tires. Else, the same power train and swing arm. They'd probably lose the underbelly exhaust to increase the ground clearance. I'm using the Adventure 1190 as a template and also some common sense. Motorbeam.com seems to believe that the Adventure 390 will be out sometime next year.
So here is my dilemma, should I wait for the Adventure 390 or get myself the Duke 390. I like street fighters, they be light and easy to throw around. I like tourers, they be comfy and have large tanks. Both have their pros and cons.
Has anyone on XBHP any news about the Adventure 390 is my question? I normally am a lurker, I read stuff on forums but hardly ever post anything on my own. This time though I can't really find any info to help me decide. So I throw my question into the mix, shall I get the Duke 390, that sexy street fighter; or should I wait for the Adventure 390, that tomboy everyone secretly wants?

Also, here is what the Adventure 1190 looks like:
You can prise these keys out of my cold dead hands.
    Raleigh Steel-Body. 1945. (It's a bicycle. :D)
Kawasaki Bajaj Eliminator. 2001 (Ps. Just found her after she'd been lost for 7 years!! You may now go crazy.)
    KTM Duke 390. 2014
The essence of practically every love song/poem ever - I think you look fit, lets go out? Not hanky panky, I promise. Unless you want to.

    Query Approved

Go for the 390, nobody knows when the Adventure will come, if it comes at all. Bajaj/ KTM will be too focussed on releasing the 'fairing' waala RC series to bother about opening up a new segment of the market.

Lot of guys on xBhp would be interested in an adventure bike. Unfortunately we have got zilch!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Bummer. I was hoping that someone would have some positive information about and Adventure 390. That's a shame, though too be honest, I understand what ya mean about goin fer the Duke 390. It really is a fantastic machine.
Oh well, that's that I suppose.
Gotta get my stuff sorted and get myself a Duke 390!!

            Hi Guys,
With the new Duke 390, has the direction of heat coming from the radiator fan changed? Does it still roast the riders legs in neck-n-neck traffic?
Two legs and Two wheels. Add two more and they become crutches and cars.

I was told by the KTM guys that they would 2 models every year. I guess 2016 would be the year for Duke 250 and RC 250. I wish they launch the Adventure 390 , but non one has seen a teat mule of that bike. I have a Duke 390 and I have done around 15k of touring on it in the last 2 years. It's never failed me yet either in Uttrakhand, Himachal or J&K.

I'm about to take the 390 & then went to the Honda showroom & fell in love with the 250 Repsol Honda edition. I think fit & finish is way better than 390. I TD'd 390 too. Awesome paint job by Honda. Now in a dilemma. 390 vs 250 Repsol edition. Is it still worth to go for CBR 250 Repsol edition?

Test ride the CBR 250 too, i would still suggest the 390 though.

Thats simple to figure out. Try to decide whether you like a Naked streetfighter or a Sports bike. If you are going to do a majority of City riding, Duke makes sense. Otherwise CBR

I had the same dilemma last year. It took me 10 months to select one b/w ktm duke 390 and cbr250r repsol edition. Finally settled with cbr250r repsol edition last month just because of love at first sight and reliability of honda. Even though ktm duke 390 suits my riding style and usage. I wanted peace of mind, trouble free ownership.

I suggest you test ride both bikes and think which one suits your needs and usage pattern.
There is no destination, I just want to keep riding.

                        Honda CBR 650F / CBR 250R ABS Repsol (Sold) / Yamaha FZ-S

Boss, are you buying a bike for its real world performance or its attractive colourful faired appearance? Ride each of the bikes for at least 10-15 km distance and take a decision. But really there is no match. Honda CBR 250 doesn't compete with Duke 390 at all. It competes with Duke 200 and doesn't win really. CBR 250 is more comfortable and has higher top speed than Duke 200. But on all other counts Duke 200 is way better than CBR 250.

Duke 390 is in completely higher league.....Just go for it.....It's relatively uncomfortable for first few days - later you will learn to live with it - and when you whack the accelerator open on a highway, you will forgive minor discomforts and just enjoy your two wheeled life! Whether riding in city, highways or even race track, Duke 390 does it all - and very fast!

Also, maintenance of KTM Duke 390 can't be termed as cheap but it is not obscenely high either. It is alright for the kind of brand it is - remember it is a European brand and always costs a bit more than Japanese/Indian brands to maintain. But in my 3.5 years of Duke 200 ownership in PUNE, I faced no significant hassles at all. Compared to that the pleasure I derived far outweighed anything else.

Now I have upgraded to Triumph Street Triple 675 but I remain a fan of KTM Duke bikes.
