  • First bike dilema, <1L need your valuable suggestion

Hey guys need your help regarding my following query.

About me, I'm a 20 years old college goer. I've been lurking on this forum since it's early days to download bike wallpapers as a kid. As far as riding experience goes i'm a noob, learnt to ride at the age of 16. Have ridden only about 5000km since getting my licence a shade over 2 years ago. So the new bike to be purchased will be used to learn the nuances of riding. I was supposed to buy a motorcycle a few months back but the plans got delayed. Now i'm looking to pick one within next 3 months.

    Requirement:
40km daily commute with 80% of it being highway.
The bike should have a fun to ride quotient. It should be something that makes me want to ride at weekends.
Fuel efficiency of anything above 35kmpl is acceptable.
    Height-172cm weight-66kg.

Now the problem comes when i consider the budget. I don't feel like asking for 1L+ from my dad. Also ~10k of this will go into riding gear and stuff. So that leaves me with about 80k to spend. That leaves out the ns, my first choice.

    Options:
1.Pulsar 180- end of life cycle, not a good handler.
2.Various Hero 150s and honda trigger- bleh!
3.Yamaha fz- great bike, lots of friends have it so i'm used to it. That also makes it not exciting enough.
4.Gixxer 150- seems to be a good rival to the fz.
5.rtr 180- love it. The best bike according to my requirement. But the thing is, is it worth paying that kind of money for such an old bike?

The other option i have is to pick up a used bike. Say i keep aside 10k for possible repairs on a used bike this are the following pre worshiped options i have in goa for bikes having run under 30k km:
    1.200 ns- around 70k
    2.220- <60k
    3.zma- around 50k. but spares i costly i guess.
    4.r15- v1 for ~70k
5.rtr 180- 50k (as im posting this, this ad caught my eye TVS Apache 180 RTR Black - Madgaon - Motorcycles - Scooters).
    6.duke 200- can i get one(greedy)

    Any other suggestions?

    so questions to answer are:
1.Should i buy a new bike for around 80k now(a180/fz/gixxer) or is there a new bike waiting to be launched in my price bracket within the end of this year(150ns?etc)
2.Should i go for a thoroughly checked used bike as i don't mind buying one?(200ns/r15/a180/zma/220/duke)
3.Is the ns significantly better for the extra 25k over my budget?

    Thank you.

You should get a good condition D200 with low miles at 1 Lac - 1.2 L depending on model year.

Screwd up ones could be going as less as 70 -80 K also.

If you want a bike for highway go for Suzuki GS150R(it has 6th gear). But as you said you are a college goer, then it you may find its looks a bit dull.
So you can opt for Fazer(tourer) or best IMO is Karizma ZMA (90k)

As you have mentioned that this bike will be used to learn the nuances of riding, I'd suggest - don't spend so much now. Get a second hand sub 150cc(preferably P135/Stunner/FZ) which would cost you far less than the ones you have selected. Later, say after 2-2.5 years, you can get your hands on a more powerful new bike.
Gixer is supposed to be a good bike but one should buy it after some initial feedback. From your present choices, I'd have preferred R15 V1.0.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

I am looking at used options only below 80k to remain on the safe side. So i guess that rules out duke. Also if I were to spend above 1L I would have bought a new 200ns. But as I mentioned 85k is the limit.

I find the gixxer to have nothing exciting going for it. I don't think my usage demands a fazer over a fz. zma on road will be over the budget I guess. I believe you suggested zma and fazer because of my highway usage, but trust me the goan "highways" are merely less congested city roads.

After going over it I've condensed my option to following:
-new:a180(seems more logical to go for used one), fz v2 or gixxer
              -used below 70k:ns, a180,r15, 220,zma

which is the better option for me? And what about new launches below 90k?

Dude you can get pulsar 150 or 180 ug 4 model under 40000rs. may be you need to spent some 10k more in that to put it into proper condition if not in condition. I believe will be a good buy as per your selection criteria. You can save the rest of the money for your gear and others.

If you don't mind also test ride discover 150f half fairing top speed 110 .claimed mileage is 72kmpl but one of the owner get 56kmpl and it can also stretched to 60kmpl if anybody ride it under speed 45 -50kmph.it comes under Rs 70000.power to weight ratio is best than pulsar 150.I will suggest it if you want to take a second hand bike

If you like the RTR, go for TD! After all, it's you who will be using your ride. Best of luck!

A college goer with looks in mind? And a bike from which you intend to learn even more than you currently know? The best bike i can think of is the discover, semi faired. It's got the looks and i'd say, since it's a new launch, you've got a lot of things to look forward which hence satisfies your need of excitement.
Else, if your are going for a used bike, i strongly suggest you the Karizma cause of its bullet-proof engine and reliability.

The Discover 150f would be your best bet. However if you are learning, fairing is tricky as it may get damaged if dropped, bumped. Then you can opt for the 150s. However I'd recommend you test ride whatever you like prior to coming to a conclusion.

                              Sorry for the late reply.

Now when I say I'm a new rider I mean I am not as experienced as most of you guys. But the thing is I have ridden for 5000km+ and have grasped slow speed maneuvers, traffic etiquette etc. This was done on a combination of bikes such as twister, fz ,unicorn and p220. Now I'm looking to learn the more intricate part of riding, you know the twist of the wrist 2 stuff. For this I'm looking to buy something that is a notch above the 150cc commuters. The bikes that fall in this category according to me are220,200ns,d200,r15,fz, cbr150r,rtr180,gixxer150,zma.

Now having done some test rides and mini research of my own, i have narrowed down to the following:
New I can afford Fz, Gixxer and A180. I have ridden fz for a fair bit and like it except its power delivery that I'm used to now. I guess the gixxer will also be quite similar. So that leaves me only the rtr. Had a test ride a few months back and loved it. But as i have said before, I find it outdated and not worthy of spending 86k for. Not much choice left as far as I see. May be if the 150/180ns was there.Correct me if I'm wrong with my logic.

Now in the used market, a180, 200ns, d200 and r15 are the bike I'm looking at. Leaving out zma because of spares issue in goa and 220 because most of them are thrashed by their owners and have high odo reading. r15 and rtr are hard to come by. Here are some of the examples I could find among these

                              200ns
1.pulsar 200NS in excellent condition for sale - Panaji - Motorcycles - Scooters (seems like the most logical)
                              2.bajajpulser n's 200 blue color - Madgaon - Motorcycles - Scooters

                              rtr
