  • Confused! Which bike to buy? Help needed!

    Dear xBhpians,

Recently we shifted to the main city ( Surat ) and its so hectic to commute by car in the traffic so I have decided to buy a decent bike which can be used for daily commute + weekend riding with friends.

    Here are the details needed:

    1. Budget: Rs.100,000
    2. Age: 33
    3. Height: 6'0
    4. Weight: 98kg
    5. Intended usage: Office commute + weekend riding with friends to nearby locations
    6. Fuel Efficiency requirement: Not that important as I'll be doing 20-25 km daily and 100 max on weekends.
    7. City & Highway percentage usage: City: 80%, highway: 20%
    8. Approximate Daily / Monthly running: Daily 25kms / Monthly 800kms to 1000kms
    9. City / Town /Village of residence: Surat
    10. Brand / Bike type preference: Yamaha FZ Limited Edition (new), Bajaj Avenger (new), Honda CBR250r (We can easily get a decent CBR for around Rs.90,000 in Surat), DUKE (Rs.82,000), 50k done OLD CBZ ( top condition - Rs.26,000 )

Power, FE are not major concerns and I usually drive around 80-90km/hour even on open roads. Max 100-100km/hour on highways.

Looking forward to get some help.

    Regards,
    Masud

    Query Approved

I do not believe in used bikes, so from the list that you feel the FZ will be your best bet. Good in city, though underpowered for highways. But you won't be riding out much, so that shouldn't be a problem.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

      FZ it is.
      For Comfort.
      For City use.
For your intended top speed 80-90 Kmph.
And yes, try to avoid second hand bike, if you dont know the owners personally.

        Thanks for the reply.

The CBZ one is my cousin and he sends the bike to service station so religiously. Xtreme is in top condition.

FZ 2.0 suits your bill perfectly. Can easily continue with 80-90 kmph all day long. A proven city bike(V1.0) due to the awesome handling. Good for occasional long rides as well.
Or else, you can also check out the P200NS. More powerful but less refined. A very good value for money.
Personally I think that within city limits, you will hardly feel the difference of a 150cc with a 200cc unless you want to participate in MotoGP next season.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Thank you for approving it, mate.

I am also leaning towards the FZ as the head of the branch is my friend and is offering me the accessories and some freebies since Yamaha dont offer any kind of discount + I love my brother's FZ ( 2011 ) for its riding comfort. I have sold my Avenger which I loved but I guess FZ has better comfort than Avenger.

              +1 for FZ 2.0.
Nothing comes close to the build quality, engine refinement and reliability of Yamaha.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

                I have one more option:

Buy the Xtreme now and use it for 6 to 12 months and then go for RE T-bird 350...

There's no point in buying a new bike and using it for only 6 or 12 months. They are not of the same type. If you are inclined towards cruisers, check out the Karizma. For mostly city riding, RE won't be a good option.
And if you are not seriously short on budget, don't go for a 2nd hand bike.

Bhai, I was talking about buying my cousin's CBZ ( 2008 model, 50k km done ) ) which is in absolutely mint condition for Rs.26,000 and then go for RE T-bird after 6 to 12 months.

And NO, I dont have an issue of cash. The budget right now is Rs.100,000.

If everything is fine with your cousin's CBZ, you can check that out. Seems a good deal. Best of luck!

Can I throw in Karizma ZMR OR Bajaj SS200 ( not yet launched!! ) as I can stretch my budget by 20-30 more if I can get a better one.

I saw some of the pics of Bajaj SS200 and it 'looks' great. We wont know about the comfort and all till it comes to the market though.

For your height and weight, Extreme is a suitable bike. It has got a comfortable suspension, good breaking capability and a nice initial and top end range, making it well performing both in city and on highways as well. If your cousins bike is in 'wow' condition, 26000 for it is a good offer for you. So take this.

Yeah, I have used Extreme and loved the bike. Sold it in 2011 after using it for 4 years. This or Yamaha FZ - limited Edition it will be.

Fzs also is a good option no doubt. But it doesn't have a good top end. Its basically a nice city commuter. Don't expect 100 kmph cruising from it.
