  • Royal Enfield Classic 350 or Classic 500?

I am planning to buy Royal Enfield. Last time i booked Classic 350 and i cancelled my booking because some of my friends said about the bad after sales service and motorcycle complaints and stuffs(Two of them couldn't ride their motorcycles after getting it and another friend had engine problems in his classic 350 ). Then my mind diverted to Duke 200 but each time an RE passes by, my heart just diverts back. Planning to book Classic 350 again but many people saying it has lots of complaints (I even witnessed one customer shouting to RE people that they used his ride which was given for servicing). Many are saying to take Standard 350 or 500. But i like the looks of classic more than standard (a personal choice). I TD Classic 350, CL500 and STD 500 today and i felt more comfortable with 350 (felt more vibes in STD 500 and CL500, may be because of the condition of TD motorcycle they gave me). Showroom guy told CL500 is tough for the mechanics outside since it FI. (One thing i liked CL500 is that it has fuel meter but its inaccurate). Desert Storm doesn't have a color warranty.

    My needs are:
    1) City riding(85% of a month) and weekends trips (may be long trip in near future )
    2) Comfort (Not opting for thunderbird since not my style).
    3) Fuel Efficiency (Higher will be appreciated)

I want to know whether Classic 350 is more than enough (or should i go for CL500) and i have heard loys of complaints on that model even from showroom guys. Friends, what's your views?
And can i change the foot pegs and headlight of Classic to that of Thunderbird's?
Can you help me by pointing out the negatives and positives of CL 350 and CL500 and which would you suggest?

    Thanks in advance

Re: Royal Enfield Classic 350 or Classic 500?

I booked my Classic 500 on 29th August 2014. Its totally depend on what you like, I have seen Fans of Classic 350 & Classic 500 both hard core fans. Don't listen to other people as everybody has their own point of view looking towards servicing part and behaviour. Currently I am riding TVS Star City & trust me I have seen many people shouting at TVs guys because they don't have AC fitted Sitting place at servicing area in authorise service centre. So its totally depend on what you want as you mentioned you like RE so much that every time it pass by you think to book again, if this is the case than you should defiantly go for Classic 500 its beautiful & beast. I hope when ever I am saying Beast you are not comparing it with duke 390 performance or Duke 200 or for that matter Pulser 200 performance. Its pointless to compare two totally different type of engines on the basis of just performance.

I hope you understand low RPM Push Rod Engines which RE makes

      Pros for classic 350
      As per my understanding
      Good FE & nothing more
If you are 85℅ city rider you should buy 350.

      Cons: classic 350
      Carburetor engine
Again its depend on what you want to do with RE 350 Carb Engine
My experience with Carburetor engine is after every 15k you need to clean or if not chances going water inside is more. State of tune is also problem you will need to find and trust good mechanic who can do tunning best possible for you. (This is my personal opinion & experience many people can disagree on this front).

      Pros Classic 500
      Awesome power
Fuel Injection by world class FI
      Better FE compare to 500cc
      Vibrations are less
Good top end speed & cruising all day long with out any misfire (FI)
Cause FI engine life and and feel stays longer (my friend rode more than 45000 kms in 4 years with proper time to time servicing no problems till today)
Constant FE (don't fluctuate like carbs engines again personal view)

      Cons:
      Seat is not comfortable
      No RPM meter
Minimum 3.5 litres fuel maintain in fuel tank coz FI
No rear disk (Any Classic series)
Smaller fuel tank compare to engines size (for long tours).

I hope this will give you some idea which one to go for
      Thank you
      Take care & Ride Safe

Re: Royal Enfield Classic 350 or Classic 500?

        Hi Vyasakh,

My personal choice was CL500 which I had bought home with me last December, rode almost 18k kms till date, Man , i feel everytime i sit on the saddle and keep saying to myself 'King of the Road' due to the riding stance it has when I see someone driving in front of me.

CL500 fuel efficiency for me is around 30-32 kmph whilst I maintain (or try atleast) between 60-70 kmph inside city, Highways is a diff story , It got around 35 kmpl with speeds hovering between 80-90 kmph. The best part of the CL500 is the FI which is lagging in 350, the throttle response is amazing and one thing which changed my mind from 350 to take the 500 was the meaty Torque,

If a diff of 25k is not an issue for you, go for 500. You wont regret it.

Re: Royal Enfield Classic 350 or Classic 500?

          Hi All,

I am very excited to let you all know that finally I have booked CL500 5 days back (almost all my friends were of the opinion that I should not go for CL500 instead I should choose CL350 but I have listened to my heart and booked CL500).........but I am confused regarding which color to opt for....I have selected CL black....because couple of my office colleague have the same black color and they say it is easier to maintain over longer period of time.........
CLDS is no...bcoz of the color finish have seen many DS but the color job done is not good. No offense to DS owners...
Can anyone suggest how does the new CL Tan & CL Silver looks...............
