• USED Hero CBZ Star

mods: Did not find any thread for this bike here so created one.

Hi folks, its after a long time I am posting in Xbhp, mainly due to the fact that I had moved on to a cage. But now I am feeling of reigniting my biking days again (yeah call it mid 30's crisis ). So I was planning on buying a 150cc 4 stroke for within 20000 budget. In this budget its the CBZ that fits the bill. Now my question is, is it really worth going for this bike now? What are the things that I should be looking for when checking a used one?

Any help in this matter would be great. Oh yeah, this is in Bangalore.

Getting a used bike is always dicey unlike buying a used car. Because bikes are generally ridden much harder and maintained much less!!!

Buy only if you 'know' the seller!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Dicey situation this! Though, CBZ Star was IIRC the last model to sport the classic CeeBeeZee styling (post which Xtreme came), I guess 20k isn't a good price.
Reasons:
1. Old model. Some spares may be hard to find.
2. ODO reading. Genuine-ness?
3. Condition of mechanicals (engine components, clutch, sprockets etc)
4. Condition of body panels and paint.
5. Service history.
6. Accident history.
7. Insurance history.
8. Do you know the seller?

You may have to spend sooner than later on repair (in any form). That would be over the 20k spent while purchasing. Justified?

Good point, however, I would not be knowing the seller as none of my friends or family circle owns this bike.

Thanks for the points, I was basically looking for some 150cc bike for 20k or less, I know I will get almost a decade old bike but the reason for looking at such low budget is, it will be used for lets say a max of 4-5 months. I am also open to Pulsar 150.

Service history for a bike might be very difficult to obtain unlike a car wherein mostly the service would be done at A.S.S. So I would basically have to take a mechanic along to inspect the bike after the initial screening. Is JC Road a good place to look for such bikes? I did buy my previous Karizma from there and it was not a bad deal.

Yes, take your mech along. JC Road evokes mixed reactions from me. I never had good experiences (never bought a vehicle, mostly spares), but 2 of my good buddies are happy with their purchases.

Spare parts will e a problem for CBZ Star I think. Also, 20k is high for CBZ Star.
You will get decent first gen CBZ xtreme/Hunk between 20-25k. But again you need to take a mechanic and ensure the condition of the bike.

Thought I will update this thread, I have ditched the plans for CBZ as was not getting any decent ones, so purchased a Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTSi UG2 for 21K, the bike is 1st hand and 35k kms on the odo.

good choice... getting a used CBZ is dicey... and finding a well maintained CBZ is bigger task... and finding such a owner who wants to part with his mint CBZ is another feat to achieve.
those who will sell does not maintain in.. those who maintain it will not sell it
