  • Confused between KTM's

    Hi Guys,
For the last 2 years and 6 days to be exact, I have owned a 200NS.
Now, My sister thinks that it's a time to upgrade...:P
I hate cars, and would love to get a bike in and around the 2 Lac mark.

    The options are:
KTM Duke 200 and RC200 (Not sure if it's a worthy upgrade)
KTM Duke 390 and RC390 (I am absolutely in love with this RC brute, but I love touring)
Enfields(Thunderbird 350/ 500 are the only two I am interested in)
Kawasaki z250, If launched in next 5-6 months. [It might be out of my budget, but I just switched jobs, so who knows]

I have till December end to make the decision.
    Any Help would be welcome.

    Query Approved

You love touring and the RC390. Nice. You need to save up and buy two bikes
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

That's the biggest dilemma that I am having.
Hopefully My friend who always tours with me will not let go of his thunderbird...:P
The least he can do is carry some spare fuel for me.

Best thing you can do is retain your 200NS for touring duties and get RC390 for that weekend fun rides and small distance touring

Dude!!!! Even if 390 gives you an average of 18 to 20 KMPL you have a capacity to go at least 160 KM before you refuel. So don't worry just go with it and tank up before you start ....

Anyways it is advised to take a break every 100 KM to 120 KM to ease your butt (Give it 5 minutes of peace from the seat beating)

                  Re: Confused between KTM's

                  Hi guys,

I just wanted to give my opinion on this. I recently saw the rc390 and got the chance to sit on it and my immediate thoughts were that it is too sportish and awesome for the race track. I am a duke 390 owner and I find the duke a much more comfortable ride. The rc390 is no doubts a awesome bike but it is about as comfortabe for touring and commuting as a r15 in terms of riding position. Your back will hate you if you buy this bike were the words of my friend who is 6'1. So you do the math. A duke is also easy to maintain as it is a naked bike and in real life the RC is only 5-10kmph faster. Not worth the extra 30 grand. Unless sports bikes are your thing stick to duke. Just my opinion

                    .
RC and Touring , I guess dont go well together...you will end up having a sore a** pain ...D390 is an all-rounder. RC personally to me a race track modelled bike and short city bursts. And with <10L capacity tank...better re-think before you go for it. Not that D390 has a larger capacity tank, but driver friendly, rather should I say Tourer friendly

Hah........... Ten litres Bro? The duke has a ten litre tank the RC has a 9.5 litre tank and that includes reserve which in the real world is more like 8.7- 9ltrs. All that the RC is, is a pretty bike plus the biggest innovation of the RC the pillion seat that looks like a cowl is useless for a passenger. I mean mote useless than the duke's pillion seat and the riders seat feels rough and hard compared to the dukes seat. Which is a joke in itself. + the ecu remap means it has less low end torque.

Actually the company claimed distance to empty of the duke is 300kms but it may be less in real life. However I being an owner of a 390 can tell you with confidence that under a 120kmph it gives a steady mileage of 27kmpl. And in stop gap traffic about 24kmpl. On the highways its more like 34kmpl

I am also looking to buy the rc390 just as a stepping stone to something bigger like a 600/1000

Still in that case go for a duke it will give you a proper idea of the sports bikes initial pickup. See the point is not to go fast but to see if you can handle the sheer power of a sports bike and the rc390 has low bottom end torque. I was told this by the ktm engineer here in Hyderabad. That means the bikes initial pickup though powerful will be a bit on the soft and mild side as compared to the duke. Its because of a ECU remap on the RC. As with any bike I say test ride and decide. I personally rode my friends ninja 650 and could control its power to quite an extent because of the duke. I stand by what I said about the RC.......... Its just a pretty bike but not worth the extra 30 grand.
