  • Commute and occasional Weekend getaways

    Hi All !

One of my dear friends is looking for a new bike

    Rider:
    Height - 5.3
    Weight - 55kgs
    Profile - Quite skinny
    Age - 22
Daily ride - Total 40 kms with medium traffic density

    Requirements:
    1. Bike which is fuel efficient
    2. Comfortable ride and highly stable
    3. Considering the profile of the ride, not very heavy and easily manoeuvrable
    4. Top end performance is not very important
    5. Budget not to exceed 70k
    6. Hassle free service
    7. Easy on the pocket to maintain
    8. Weekend getaways within 100kms of Navi Mumbai

The shortlisted ones and the concerns I have:
    1. Honda Shine (Complete package)
    2. Bajaj Discover 125 (Build quality?)
    3. Baja Discover 150F (A bit on the heavier side)
    4. Honda Twister (Rear tyre too thin)
    5. Honda Stunner (Fairing sturdiness in long run)
    6. Hero Ignitor (Fairing sturdiness in long run)

We shall be test riding the above mentioned bike this weekend. Planning to buy during Diwali.

I seek expert opinion and their on ground experiences from all the xbhpians out there!

    Thanks in advance to everyone!!!

    Query Approved

From your list i would go for the Twister or Discover 150F depending upon how heavy/ light a bike he is looking for
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

TVS Phoenix 125 Eyes Closed ! TVS Spares aren't Costly as the Honda and Bajaj and It continues the Samurai's Trouble-free DNA with Better Established TVS A.S.S,55-60 Kmpl Mileage (Company Claimed-69 Kmpl).Much better Build Quality than the Discover 125 ST.2nd Lightest after the Shine. Many say It is very Stable even at it's Top Speed,95 Km/H.But Consider the Discover 150F,125,Honda Shine. But If I were you,I would go TD and buy the TVS Phoenix 125.Thank you

Ignitor is a good choice. My friend who is around 5.5 tall is riding it for more than a year and he is happy with it.
He had couple of falls but the fairing is still in tact. So you don't have to worry about fairing.
Mileage is around 50 kmpl in city.

Shine is a good bike for city commute but not for long rides due to vibrations over 60kmph.
Instead of Discovers, you can suggest him P135. Light and powerful.
You can also add SS125 if your friend is ok with a little less low-end torque.

A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Re: Commute and occasional Weekend getaways

Shine is a good overall good bike and it gives you a mileage of 55-60kmpl.

Discover 150f build quality is not as good as shine or twister but it has 145cc engine with better power, top speed, half fairing, stable at any speed with mrf tyres holding the ground and most important is the mileage it provided you 55-60kmpl.you can aslo enjoy while riding this bike as compared to any other bike in your budget and it outperforme even the new yamaha fz2.0 version in all department except in paint quality, build quality, smoothness.

For mileage i advice you to take dream series bikes from the honda.

Re: Commute and occasional Weekend getaways

Thank you everyone for your valuable opinion !

Got a chance to test drive few bikes from the list mentioned above:
                  1. Stunner/Ignitor - too tall for my friend
                  2. Discover 150f - too heavy
                  3. Discover 125 - engine performance is good, handlebar was too narrow for my size. Shoulders felt uncomfortable while riding
                  4. Honda Twister - Was not available

So we have selected Honda Shine as the best suited bike considering all the factors like economy, performance, highway stability, build quality and service.

Looking to get it delivered during Diwali.

                  Thank you everyone !

                  Ride safe ! Cheers !
