  • Karizma ZMR but with better milleage

    Hi guys

I am new to this forum and specifically joined XBHP to ask about this query.

I am a previous owner of Unicorn Dazzler and am currently using (my brother's) Karizma ZMR (2011). He'll be coming back to Mumbai soon (1st of Nov,2014) and I need a new bike soon.

    Here are the requirements:
    1. Daily commute of about 40km (bothway): Mumbai to Navi Mumbai and back
    2. About 1/3 in city and and 2/3 in Highway
    3. Last 0.5km stretch of road on both ends is terrible
    4. Comfort is top priority. Don't want to break my back (weigh above 90kgs)
    5. Should be strong/durable. The roads are absolutely messed up . Want a bike that can handle a sudden bump on 40-50km/hr speeds
    6. Should have decent mileage (don't want to spend more than Rs100/day on petrol)
    7. Should have THAT road confidence (ZMR is amazingly stable compared to my previous Dazzler)
    8. Budget: about 1 lakh at a stretch

I have heard bad reviews about the new ZMR. A user told me it has lost its road grip, fairings rattle etc.
How about a second hand ZMR (on other note what mileage should be expected from an 3-4 year old ZMR). The fairings/plastics rattle a lot on the current ZMR ( but my brother's ZMR has seen a lot of bad days)

What about pulsar 200ns? What would be the comfort and the mileage better than ZMR. Would it last more than 2 years? Does the 6th gear help in increasing mileage (if I say do 60-70 in 6th gear) What about the perceived maintenance of Bajaj bikes?

What about Suzuki GS150 with the sixth gear. Looks are "commuter" bikes, but will it perform better in terms of comfort, top speed and mileage

Yamaha FZ V2/FI ? How is the new fuel injection variant? Is comfort/suspension good enough for long journeys?

Other bikes ? RTR? Second hand Thunderbird ? Any other suggestions please?

PS: Absolutely hate to lose my brother's ZMR, absolutely love it. Are there better bikes than ZMR that suite my needs?

    Query Approved!

    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    THE END

Among the bikes mentioned by you, the best bet in the comfort dept. is FZ V2.0. It may be a little less powered in its class, but is also the best in comfort, handling and build quality.
Apart from that, GS150 is a very good bike with the added advantage of the 6th cog. Gixxer is a good one but some reviews state that the seat is a little less comfortable than GS150. Both these bikes have suspensions which can handle Indian roads(and of course potholes) with ease. And due to the excellent build quality, parts won't start to rattle after 2-3 years.
In the used bike section, Karizma R is a good bet as you are already familiar with it.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

all your requirements are met with zmr, go for zmr. the new zmr packs the relablity and touring capablities of the old machine and also the fun to ride is quotient is added. new zmr feels more power packed in the middle revs and top end. it's the best mileage bike in 200cc with a mileage of 51 tested by overdrive.

Bro best for you is karizma zma
          1. Under 1 lac(new)
          2. Half fairing so less rattle
          3. You dont want to loose karizma

            Thanks for the replies
            @krishna77:

Will FZ be good enough for 20km journeys? For some reason always thought FZ was bad for back comfort or long rides.
On similar note, whats the significant different between FZ, FZ sport and Fazer. As in I know Fazer has fairings which add about 5kgs. I am inexperienced in this but 5kg wouldn't be too much wouldn't it ( my weight fluctuates more than that depending upon my work schedule). Wouldn't Fazer V2 with fairings be much better for highways. Also is the seating position the same on Fazer compared to FZ. And whats FZ sports ? other than color combinations.

Read on a different thread on this forum, GS150 is 4-5 years (plus it looks typical commuter bike). Not sure about Gixxer.
@pravinan: Thanks for the info on overdrive. 51kmpl? at what speeds. Even on current ZMR I rarely touch 90km/hr. Most running would be 60-70km/hr (it would be pure madness to ride a 1lakh + bike on roads with sudden chances of potholes).
@united: Thanks. Only reason I ll opt out of both Karizmas are: ZMR is over the bugdet, I don't like ZMA(Karizma R) looks ( and new ZMR is marginally better). Plus I have confirmed with riders of both Karizmas (2014), new machines are not good enough

WHat about other bikes? I kind of forgot to mention Unicorn? ANy tips?

Also, I have never properly used a non-disc brake bike (both Dazzler and ZMR had Discs at front and rear). How much of a difference does a rear drum brake make over discs?

            Looking forward to your replies
Had once tried my friend's stunner, could NOT handle the bike properly without discs.

Fazer with the added weight will surely be a boon in the highways. And FZ is more than suffiecient for your daily ride.
