  • looking for a bike of budget arround 1 lac, really confused.

    Hi all,
This is vignesh. I have a moderate experience in riding bike and made some trip on my own. I am going to get a new bike of budget around 1 lac. I am currently in bangalore. My purpose of this bike is to ride some 30 kms daily in city ( day to day use) and go for a short distance trip like around ( 200 - 400 kms ) once in 3 months and some long trips like once in a year.

    My Test drive experience:

I rode FZ v2 - i felt comfortable, but i consider it a bit over priced.

Then gixxar i felt better than fzv2 but it has low built plastics on switches and body.

Then i rode pulsar 200ns - it was pretty high end, But the mechanic who rode with me on test ride informed me that there are some pulsar 200ns they loaded down that are with bad vibrations and he asked me to check the bike before i get one.

Then i rode TVS apache 160 - I got a good confidence in the bike and felt the beast in it. But when i completed my drive the bike was smoking from the engine front. It seems the is some issue with the piece and when i read abt long term reviews of this one. Many complained about the engine vibration. I liked the bikes vibration but i will hate if it is really annoying (like vibrations on footrest and pretty much all parts).

So i am really confused at this point abt the bikes can some one shower some light on this and help me select one that i wont regret after i get it.

    Query Approved

Have you checked out the Apache 180? That might float your boat if you are not too tall.

200 NS is definitely a good buy, But FZ v1 was also priced at 82k (no one complained then), now FZ v2 with Fi will definitely cost you more. But VFM bike. Good to ride around town. Engine life will be good.

If I am given an option, I will go for 200 NS, due to a) Less maintenance b) Good power and pickup c) Best street fighter Styling (Indian make).

The Gixxer is by no means a low quality product. Did you yourself feel it by looking at a new bike? or did you see a badly kept test vehicle? Do have a look once again. However it is best used in the city.

The 200NS is a good product. Don't listen to a single mechanic. Maybe he is mistaken or he might not like the bike himself (just saying). Good all-rounder bike.

Check the new Karizma once also. It might look ugly in pictures but may appeal to you when you see it in flesh.

A tourer would need substantial power on highway runs, so to narrow down options..select from 200 NS and Karizma
The way you ride is the way you are..

The best thing to do is test drive each of the above mentioned bikes because its you who is going to be riding so search for long term reviews and test drive the bike and find a bike which suits your needs.Your bike is going to be a big part of your life and you'll always cherish your moments so "choose wisely live well"

at a budget of 1lac, p200ns is your best bet. vibes are something you will have to live with if you choose a bike from an indian manufacturer. though 200ns has negligible vibrations compared to older generation pulsars.
rode friend's 200ns once and felt no vibes till 5-6k rpm. felt vibrations after that but they were bearable.
the only downer for 200ns is its fuel efficiency. my friend gets around 30kmpl in city condition and he is not satisfied with it.

gixxer is another brilliant bike which will fit your requirements.
i my opinion it looks better than 200ns (one of the reason why i went with gixxer ) and it can also deliver respectable fuel economy. it is very good handler in city traffic. it can also cruise at 80 kmph on highways without putting too much strain on engine. and no vibrations till red line.

if FE is not an issue and if you can live with slight vibrations, then 200ns is the bike for you.
if you want vibration free smooth and refined engine then gixxer it is.
do check for waiting period and availability of service station where you live before choosing gixxer.

              The options to look are:

              1. Pular200ns
              2. Pulsar 220.
              3. Karizma r.
              4. Apache 180 abs.

200ns: so far the best pulsar
              220: tried and tested
karizma r: odd looks an it's personal. reliable engine and quicker than old bike
apache 180: Very good handling machine

From your requirements it seems 200NS should be the best for you. The seat is a bit on the higher side, test ride it once and if all is well and good you will have an awesome bike in your hands.

Regarding the vibration issue. Yes, its there. For me post 6000rpm, it creeps in. But it is negligible in city riding. Last week on a xbhp ride I covered around 110kms with a constant speed of 100, no breaks, after getting down I could feel the vibes

For all your requirements, the choice should be like this.
                  1. P200NS(most powerful and VFM among the lot).
                  2. FZ V2.0(FI,Build and ride quality, smoothness and comfort).
                  3. Gixxer(Smooth,powerful,comparatively exclusive).
                  4. Karizma R(age old proven machine, Hero's network).
TR all of them preferably not from showroom. You'll never get ample scope to judge the machines properly within so short time-span. Check out from friends/relatives/rentals.

If you are okay with Bajaj, 200NS remains the best option. It'll be around 3-4k out of budget for you, but you'll get a Bike which is worth every penny.
FZ is comfortable and able performer, and is priced very well. I wont call it VFM but it is a premium product and fully deserves the price it is sold at.
Gixxer, suffers from the age old suzuki spares and service problems, though i have heard a few good words for them in Bangalore.
Karizma R remains the best karizma ever. It was everything the current karizma wants to be. Go for it blindfolded.

And the last thing that i suggest to everybody.
Get out of the damn chair and go, get a test ride.
That's the only thing which will help you choose something that u will love.

Well, to be completely honest, I was in your shoes just a week back! With over a year's planning, I decided to pick up a dike 390 thru finance, but things turned around. I found a second hand CBR250 on olx with only 8k kms on the odo, and with a reasonable price tag of 1.07 lacs. This sparked my interest and when I checked out the vehicle (was completely suspicious as to why there was so less kms on the odo) and I had my mechanic and a mechanic from Honda appraise the vehicle and both came out with positive answers. So I closed the deal, n picked up the vehicle and papers. My point being, the CBR is an amazing tourer, one of the most comfortable ones too! And it had all the grunt required on highways to overtake those annoying taxis that are all over the road. So you might want to take a look at the used vehicle market too, with the CBR 300 coming in, you might get a good deal. Just my two cents! But all the best on your hunt for the perfect vehicle! 👍

Well since you plan to go long trips, my suggestion will be the 200ns because not only does it have killer looks, it had power on tap and the not so committed riding position isn't gonna punish your back on long rides, where as the apache is gonna be unforgivable because of its sporty riding posture.

Take a look at the karizma r though I'm doubtful of the looks, it has a proven engine with more grunt than before but the old refinement has degraded but the fairing is gonna protect you from wind blasts which the ns can't do.

The pulsar 220 though a very common bike is a direct competition to the karizma r and beats the karizma in almost all front. So if you don't mind the dated looks, it is a worthy option.

Do a test ride and choose your soul.

In your budget, the Pulsar 200NS seems to be the best bet. Yes, it has vibration issues. But there have been reports that the latest lots are much smoother (thanks to Kawasaki input). Also, Bajaj has been fitting the 200NS with the Eurogrip tyres but they've given way to MRF tyres on the newer 200ns that are coming out of Bajaj's plant. So make sure that you buy the ones fitted with the MRF tyres, even if you have to wait for extra few days for that. and yes, do take a test ride before you decide.

The pulsar 220, though quite an old model now, also fits your bill.
