  • Upgrade from Duke 390

Hey Guys I currently own a Duke 390, which is no doubt a very good VFM bike.
But I am fed up of issues popping up every couple of weeks, which is why I am looking for an upgrade or may be something similar to duke.
    1. Budget - 5-6Lacs Max
    2. Age - 26yrs
    3. Height - 5.7
    4. Weight - 60kgs
    5. Intended usage (eg. Office/College commute, Highway runs, Racetrack usage, Weekend recreation riding etc.) - Office, Weekend recreation riding etc.
    6. Fuel Efficiency requirement (approx., if any)
    7. City & Highway percentage usage: city/highway 40/60
    8. Approximate Daily / Monthly running: 70kms / 2500kms
    9. City / Town /Village of residence (so we can evaluate road conditions / traffic / terrain / altitude / OTR pricing): New Delhi
    10. Brand / Bike type preference (if any): Open to any option

Let me know if any other details required.

You might want to wait for the prices of the Benellis to be announced before you go ahead with a decision.

    All the best!

      Re: Upgrade from Duke 390

Since your main reason for changing the Duke 390 are issues/problems, you should get Ninja 650 (or Ninja 300). Both these are relatively niggle free and will serve you well.
You should check the Ninja 650 thread.

      Ride safe and have fun.

        Re: Upgrade from Duke 390

N650 is a decent choice since you have quoted 60% of Highway riding. It should be ok with the budget and should have few more for your safety gears. Benelli is also another choice. But we don't know the reliability or any niggles in it , since its a newbie to the floor.

N650 is relatively old and refined. If you like cruisers, Street 750 is also a good option. Weekend recreation rides should be hell lot of fun with this. Since your height is on the shorter end (mine is also 5'7"). I had to tip-toe a little on N650 while taking the TD, Harley should be of no issue on planting your feet on the ground.

        ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Mileage perspective, I would say 22 kmpl for N650, don't know about the 750.

N650 might be a lil heavier for me.. My heart is saying to go for N300 and save rest of the money.. Gotten used to the power of duke.. Wonder how the ninja will feel.

N300 has less power than D390 but you will like the refinement of a parallel twin. N300 will make u feel like you are riding a bigger bike.

N650, despite its looks is actually quite manageable. Its not heavy at all. If anything (at least to me) it feels just as heavy/light as a ninja 300. So if you're looking at a ninja 300 because its lighter then you're wrong and I can say this with confidence (I'm 5'9" and I had no problems riding the bike)

I am confused, not even sure if i need a 650cc bike. I should have opted for N300 at the time i was buying duke.. I use duke for my daily usage and i highly doubt 650 can be used the same way considering the amount of traffic i go through in delhi. N300 is still a good bike right?

                  Re: Upgrade from Duke 390

The 390 has no replacement. Not now, not in the future, unless yamaha launches r3.The duke is just on the limits of a2 licensing, whereas the 300 is little lesser. So technically, upgrade would be a naked with best in class handling, something like striple.

                    Re: Upgrade from Duke 390

I have ridden the 390D, 250N, 300N and own a 650N. They are oh so different in riding style, posture and purpose. From your requirements I feel the 650N is best suited as it is an all rounder. The 250 and 300 are more track oriented and they have a more aggressive riding posture. So if you are looking for an "upgrade" the 650 should be your choice. Or wait for the benelli's

Ninja 650 is the only upgrade that comes to mind. Or else, continue to use your Duke for a fe months more. There might be some pleasent surprises for us in 2015!

Again I can tell you with confidence that you're wrong. I ride the N650 belonging to my friend in the city ever now and then and I ride stress free. Yes the bike is big so negotiating traffic is an issue but the engine has surprisingly good mid range and decent low range torque. It can be ridden at 30-40kmph all day in 2nd gear.
As for needing a 650cc bike. Well if you feel you don't need this much power of engine size then you could wait a bit for the Honda 500 &300 to come out. There's also bennelli and EBR bikes ip for launch.

The kind on antics/manoevres you can do on a duke arent a remote possibility on ninja 650.

I would have continued with the Duke.. But i can't keep running to the svc every couple of week. Last week i rectified tank vibration and again it has popped up. They are not even able to identify the root cause. It's not fun riding the duke anymore.. Also wind blast is also a problem. Which is why i was hoping for something similar without these many niggles.

I don't want to wait 6/7 months for a new bike.. I was hoping to get it done by the end of jan.

And with N300/650 i am getting a good hassle free bike and they are readily available.
Just need to make sure which one and if it's worth the money as I'll be needing finance for both of them.
