Re: KTM Duke 200 vs RC 200?

    Guys, a small query.
Taking only the engine/gearing/ecu into consideration, its there any difference between RC200 and Duke 200 ?

    Ride safe and have fun.
    Regards
    Nadeem

      Dear fellow.
I heard that the cooling efficiency of the engine has been increased for rc which helps the engine but because of heavy weight rc is behind the Duke.

If you have a range of 200 odd Kms on the Duke in terms of comfortable riding distance then on the RC that range effectively drops to 100 odd kms. More frequent pit stops and wrist and back pain from the seating position, cramped knees will be your biggest problems with RC bikes while on the duke thanks to its more upright riding posture you'll find that the above mentioned problems are felt less or not at all depending on your individual stamina as a rider.
        You are right.
I incorporated this edit into my post above. Thanks

Duke 200 is the best choice between 2. It will enhance your street as well as long touring experience. RC is made for track & short run drives. Go for D200 or a good used D390.

Yes I have decided to pick up a KTM 390 and confused between a Duke and a RC. I could not find any thread for the same and this was the closest thread to my requirement. Well I have read all the comments here but still looking for your opinion. Mods kindly shift this to the appropriate thread if I have posted in the wrong place.
A few points about myself and my requirements:
            1. I'm 168 cm in height and 88 kg in weight.

            Same

            2. I spend only half the year in India (4 months at a time) and for the 4 months I'm away there's no one to use the bike.

            Same

            3. All 4 KTM's are within my budget (including the fuel costs).

            Same

            4. Though my choice is between the 390's, I know there are some people who will insist on getting one of the 200's. Your opinions are welcome too.

Owned a 200 for 2 years, now moved on to rc390.

            5. My primary use will be leisure riding. Most of the time evening rides from Margao to Colva or Benaulim (for those who are familiar with Goa) and maybe the occasional 100 km ride.

Same, just that i tour a bit.

            6. I do not intend riding to Ladakh or Kanyakumari nor do I intend carrying my entire wardrobe, fridge, TV and microwave on the bike.

On the contrary, i want to. just that i travel light.

            7. I do not intend doing any sort of stunts or racing on the bike (In any case Goa does not have racetracks)

Same, but want to do a trackday.

            8. I will be having a pillion rider most of the time.

            same

            9. I do not have a problem with a crouched position, hard seats or stiff suspension (I'm a cyclist and ride a road bike).

            Same

            10. I would like to use the bike within the city sometimes.

            Same

            11. I currently ride an Enfield 350 standard and an Activa.

Used to ride duke and have a jupiter.

            12. Previously I have owned and extensively ridden a Yamaha RD 350, Yamaha RX 100 & a Hero Honda CBZ (1st Gen).
            13. I enjoyed the Yamaha's more than the other bikes. I like to rev the bike a bit.
            14. I have ridden the Duke 200 when it was launched and a friends re-mapped Duke 390 recently. Still waiting for the dealer to give me a Test Ride on all 4 stock bikes back to back. They have promised me a Test Ride on the RC 390 tomorrow.

Go and get rc390. Its fun, precise and fast. Most guys crib because of the riding position, but we cyclists make do with a lot less seat and similar or more committed crouching position without any thigh support. I feel you should do well with a RC390.

We are all "cyclists" here brother but what is true is true. You can't do long distances on an RC.

I have done long distances on duke, and the reason i sold it off after 2 years is because of my height, i couldnt lock thighs, i mean i could, but they start paining over time, along with the obvious butt pain. Rc fits me ergonomically, and the only pain i get is butt pain that too after 350-400kms.
And regarding long distances, its just mental block. People do long distances on r15 etc, people have done long distances on rc too. I know there are different bikes for different purposes, but then isnt duke a streetfighter? But folks do ladakh/offroading on it.
I commented because i saw too many similarities between him and me, and i thought he will be well off with rc. Because duke doesnt ergonomically fit guys with height of 6' and more.
My very first rajmachi(offroad trail with lots of slush in monsoons near lonavla) ride was with 2 dukes and r15, and the r15 guy literally broke All stereotypes and had the most fun. Im going this monsoon, do join😅
