  • Confused as Hell !!!

    Hi,
Firstly " Wish you all a very Happy & Prosperous New Year".
I have been a member of XBHP since years long and appreciate the efforts the community has put in for Bikers and Most Important the awareness of Safe Biking in India.
But Post I have started to work and other commitments in life didn't really find the time to visit XBHP as often. But Still Enjoy the good old days of riding a CBZ to college and getting tips from guys in here on the tunning of the same. (Still love the bike. Was a stellar of the bike back in the days and held the crown for years ahead)
Years passed by from the CBZ days and my passion just grew for biking. (who doesnt love life between the two wheels)
Later graduated to Yamaha R15 v2 which i still posses and love her to the limits.
But off late have started to feel some back pain with the bike especially with the pillion along.( as i am almost aged 30 already showing some signs of wear in the body )
Also, Post Marraige i am not too sure how much should i be riding solo in the future .Also my wife is not too comfortable with the pillion seat ht.
Hence, 6 months back started my search for a more comfortable bike for both of us and have shortlisted the below ones with some budget restrictions though.

    1> Harly Davison street 750
    2> Kawasaki ER-6N
    3> RE Continental GT.

Have test rode the street and Continental in the recent past . Though didnt get an opportunity to ride the ER-6N Have tried the Ninja 650 which i believe will be on similar
    lines as the En-6R
Street 750- My Impressions on the street 750 which was remotely one of reason for my upgrade as per my intial test ride at the 7-island showrrom Thurbe, Navi Mumbai had a cramp in my thigh due to which didnt fint it too convincing.
(I am not sure the reason maybe its the fact the currently riding an r15 and a sudden change in the stance causing the pain) And months later i again test rode where i didnt have the cramp this time around but the complete
ergo felt somewhat different to comfortable where i got reviews that its a comfortable bike riding it was different when had to change gears or while braking. Need advise from existing owners on this. Also standing at 5'11" i should not look out of place on the bke
Also need to understand about the Harley tax and the price of ownership. As i dont think i can dig deep into my pockets .Also i could not find much ownership reports on the street even our forum has had only 2 till date from its launch.
RE Continental GT- Loved the bike . Best refined RE engine. But afraid about the Ergos and the pain it might cause in the back.
Hope you guys can help out as i planning for one this new year early And also would like to ride it for the valley run this year around. (New year resolution - try to take out as much time and make as many bike rides around maharatra as possible)

    THANKS A TON ,
    SRIRAM

    Query Approved

    And welcome back to xBhp

The ER 6N seems like the best bet. The Continental has clip-ons which may not be suitable for you with a bad back. The Street 750 is a lovely bike, but buy only if you are into that kind of motorcycles.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

ER-6N should be your best buy. Kawasaki engine, Vib e free till 7k rpm..hell we wont reach that limt inside city. Good pillion comfort with plush seat. I did test drive the N650 months before. Felt at home instantly. With more than enough power for city commute.

Go for it...you wont regret..also the after sales and service should also be good and parts aint that expensive afaik.

Yeah I felt the same with the N650 .. It was more like enough power when you need it ..

I thought you found the Street to be not so comfortable during the second test ride? IMO, er6n would be more comfortable both for the rider and pillion.

              Re: Confused as Hell !!!

Street 750 is priced very well and focused at new comers of the 500+cc segment. Please understand that riding a Harley is different from any other motorcycle. City manoeuvring will be difficult and vibrations creep in at higher rpms. However it seems more refined than the other air cooled Harleys. AFAIK Harley spares cost a bomb.

RE Continental GT is definitely not for you. It is focused on a single rider and weekend getaways. When I rode it, I was already uncomfortable within 5 minutes. But that may also be due to me being used to upright seating. Again city riding in dense traffic will be hard.

ER6N/Ninja 650 is the best bet for you. Very much ridable in city and excellent highway cruiser. Build quality and paint job are very good. Though the priciest one here, I believe it is worth every penny. The Ninja looks better to me than the ER (subjective).

Yes Bro..But again you have to be careful. It might catch you out sometimes when you wring open the throttle. But not nasty like the I-4. But in a smoother manner. If you aint bothered about the price tag of INR 5.7 L, go for it. One dis-adv which i found whilst TD was the weight. I almost dropped it when he asked me to make a sharp turn in a small space.

But you ll get used to the weight as the day goes by. Moreoever, the GC is better than the street 750. I am just 5'7". I was able to land my foot with ease on the N650. Your legs wont be sprouting out of the tank while you drive, given your physique.

                  Re: Confused as Hell !!!

                  Hey Guys ,,,,
Visited the 7-island showroom in the evening .. Took the street for a short spin with my wifey .. And guess what booked it !! More than me, my wife had a huge smile looking at the bike and seemed way excited than she was when visited the Kawasaki showroom . (All the posts suggested for the quaker but the spur of the moment was good enough to decide. All I could think was she probably liked the Harley more than the quaker) Which was more than enough for me to book it right away . Though had a few thoughts post booking may be usual nervous thingy I generally have in my mind .
I would be starting the huge daunting task of waiting period for the bike and sleepless nights till getting the handover. Though it might not be a long wait but still . It will be filled with going through the videos of the bike again and again.. Planning trips .
But for city & solo riding will still be using my R15 and would be using the Street for weekend getaways ..Also will have to get used to riding the street as even the showroom guy suggested that's it needs a complete different riding stance and getting used to for the initial days..
Really appreciate all the advise given by everyone . But I feel at some point heart will always win over the mind. Will soon start a Buying experience and the Ownership thread on the Street.

                  Cheers and Happy Riding,
