• Bike under 1 lakh (200NS or wait for the SS)

Hi,
1. Budget - ~90K (can probably stretch to 1.10 Lc)
2. Age - 26
3. Height - 5\'10\"
4. Weight - 65
5. Intended usage (eg. Office/College commute, Highway runs, Racetrack usage, Weekend recreation riding etc.) - short office commute, recreational riding in the city
6. Fuel Efficiency requirement (approx., if any) - > 35 ideally
7. City & Highway percentage usage - 80-20(city-highway)
8. Approximate Daily / Monthly running - 25 / 800 (daily / monthly)
9. City / Town /Village of residence (so we can evaluate road conditions / traffic / terrain / altitude / OTR pricing) - Bangalore, on a shitty road for most of the time.
10. Brand / Bike type preference (if any) - Pulsar 200NS, Pulsar 200SS

I really like the 200NS, which also fits in my budget, and given the fact that it\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s substantially more powerful than the R15 while being cheaper than it totally weighs it in my favour. However I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'m inexperienced and a cursory look through the forums suggests that the R15 is lower than the NS and a better handler.. a much better looker too in my opinion.

Now, after I saw the 200SS, I thought it looked much better than the NS. Also, given the fact that after the 150 and 180NSes the NS look would be very common for me to consider doling out close to a lakh without it feeling like a premium machine.

So,
1. Do you guys think the 200NS is a good bet at the moment? Compared to the R15, or others in its segment. (are there bikes I\'m missing out?.... I ruled out the Duke as I somehow didn\'t find it\'s exhaust note much to my taste, in addition to it being much more expensive and less of a city bike)
2. How long would the facelifted NS: ie the 200SS take to be launched (best estimates) and how much would it cost (again best estimate please)?
3. Would buying a 200NS now and slapping on the 200SS nose fairing be a good idea / viable at all? And would this be a smarter deal than buying the 200SS itself?

I would ideally have bought it in January itself, but if the SS launches by March, I\'d consider waiting for it.

Thanks very much guys.

PS: Also, I prefer sharper shaped headlamps like the NS\'s to the much rounder faired headlamps of the Karizma and CBR.

Re: Bike under 1 lakh (200NS or wait for the SS)

Firstly you need to understand that Pulsars will always fill the roads in our country. No matter in what avatar. The brand name is that good. So whatever Pulsar you buy, you should expect to see many flying past you in the near future.

Coming to your points:
1. Make no mistake R15 is a great bike with good build quality but is a slightly track focused bike and riding position is not pleasing for city commutes especially if you say the roads are pothole ridden. NS on the other hand does everything. Good highway cruising (so does the R15), good handling, decent FE, all in all a VFM product. However, some quality issues have cropped up over time. Refer the NS ownership thread and see of the current ones are free from those problems. And the Duke 200 is actually more suited to city than highway with its short gearing and naked looks. Only problem is it heats up crawling traffic. Any ways if the exhaust note annoys you, NS is your bike.

2. Monk has answered this one perfectly.

3. Absolutely not. The 200SS will be a fuel injected bike and the fairing will be designed accordingly to protect the sensors and other parts. We have no idea if any modifications have been made to the frame to accommodate the fairing.

I would say, get the NS. Take a test ride of the R15 and NS. You should be able to see the difference.

With 2% hike in CED ,200ns now barely comes under 1lakh ,and 200ss will surely cost above 1.20 lac .
So there goes your budget. .

Hmm.. I see.. Thanks Anuj, Harish and Monk.
Your endorsement has reaffirmed my position on the NS. I was only hoping that I don\'t miss out on the SS which looks much sexier, if it turns out that it gets released in March and is within budget.

I guess I\'ll make a call in a week then.

Also, one question. All Pulsars I\'ve seen on Bajaj\'s site are the sporty multi-colored ones.
Do they not sell the mono color bikes any more ?
Is there any way to procure a yellow one?

Umm.. you guys.. I haven't bought a bike yet...
Part of the reason is that I couldn't get the yellow Pulsar 200NS. Apparently they shelved their best looking model.

Is there any way to still get a yellow one? (The multi colored ones aren't to my taste, and I'm not too big a fan of the black one either)

Sir,Have you looked the TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS which costs cheaper than the Pulsar 200 NS ? It also falls inside your 1 Lakh Price Mark.It has Awesome Performance and great Handling,As you are 5'10,RTR will be more Comfortable.ABS is a life saving feauture that will prevent your Wheels from locking up in Hard Braking. You will surely love the Exhaust note of the RTR.Please consider it.

@ thread starter
The 200 SS will NOTBE UNDER 1 LAKH, SO FORGET IT.

Also, I agree with your rant about Bajaj shelving their best colour.

Yeah the yellow color is out of production, mate.
You'll have to choose form the existing colors, I'm afraid.

Assuming the fact that my info is correct ant you indeed are 15, that makes it that you were born in the year 2000, so can you please elaborate how you have "Good Ol' Memories from the 90s."

Re: Bike under 1 lakh (200NS or wait for the SS)

Ankey: Hmm.. that's a pity. I really liked the yellow one.
TVSian: thanks for pointing that out. I've really heard some positive reviews about the RTR180 from my friends, and I quite like that bike too, but given how much I prefer the appearance of a few other bikes like the 200NS, FZ-S, Fazer, I don't see myself going for the TVS.

So now I have two options, either I go for a second hand yellow NS, or wait for the market to have more contenders, like the 200SS. Looking out for the first option on OLX and for the second on google.

Any other ideas in the 1-1.2lakh segment you guys?

Thanks Deep, when will the AS be released? There seems to be even lesser clarity about it's launch than the SS's.

If I stretch my budget to like 1.4L, will that open out my options a bit?
