  • Is paying 5k more for Honda CBS system worth it

I am considering to get a Unicorn 160. I am little confused as to whether I should go for the standard variant or put in 5k more and get the CBS.

I have seen reviews saying that CBS is very good in reducing the stopping distance. Others say that CBS is only good for newbies who only use the foot brake. They say that CBS reduces the feel for people who use both the brakes simultaneously. I am getting my first bike so I am also a newbie in a way. But I think I can learn to use both the brakes if using both is actally better than CBS. Please help me with this. Thanks in advance.

    Query Approved.

CBS is more or less like Honda\\\\\\\'s COMBINED ABS system, and the 5k premium it offers is completely justified. Imagine paying 30,000 Rupees more for a Combined ABS system for the 250R, this way it\\\\\\\'s cheap, practical and effective. CBS or C-ABS always a plus in my books.

    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

AFAIK CBS is not ABS. It\'s just a system that enables application both the brakes through a single lever. With CBS, you don\'t need to use lever on handle to apply Front brake, you just press the foot lever for rear brake and it applies both the brakes in pre-defined proportions.

If you are used to using front brake along with the rear, It doesn\'t give you much. If you are used to only using rear brake, CBS will help you stop quicker with use of more powerful front Disc brake. Hope this helps.

+1 for the above post. CBS is nothing but a setup where the connection to both the brakes is given to the rear brake pedal. SO when the person applies the rear brakes both the brakes are engaged at the same time, causing the bike to stop much quickly. So for people who are in habit of applying only the rear brake, it is a good option. people who are new to riding may also have certain benefit from it. But for some people it does not give enough confidence, as they are experienced and know how and when to use which brake.

Personally I dont like the CBS because when I brake hard on my own bike I know the limit of my tire\'s grip and the bite of my brakes, so I can modulate the pressure on any of the two brakes to prevent it from skidding and keep the rubber side down. I always know how hard I can brake and what will be my safe stopping distance.

But on a CBS Vehicle (I rode a friends activa) both the brakes wires are connected to the rear brake lever. So when I pull the rear brake both wheels\' brakes work, which is OK for normal conditions but under panic braking or hard braking, the brake wire jams both the wheels with the same force, which leave no room for modulating the pressure on the desired wheel. So if keep the brakes jammed, you\'ll eventually lose control and skid, and if you release the rear brake lever, both the brakes release simultaneously and you\'re gonna hit the object in front of you.

This is just my review based on a short ride on a CBS installed activa. People have different riding styles and may find something suitable to their riding style while others may discard it because it does not suit their riding style. So only you can decide if it suits you or not. Take long test rides, and try different types of braking to find if suits you... if yes then its really worth the money, if not you\'re better off without it.
