  • An uograde over fazer , budget of max 1.9 lakhs ..Shortlists Duke 200, RC 200,CBR250

    Hello xBhp'ians.

My first post in xBhp have been following this forum for quiet some time.

I purchased my first bike in 2012- Yamaha Fazer and currently reside in Goa. I will be soon shifting to Chennai or possibly Bangalore. I have a strong love for KTM however the pillion rider problems are currently making me think about CBR250R. So here are few pointers i would need
    i) How comfortable is the pillion on a CBR250R when compared to a KTM Duke 200 or RC 200
ii) Till date i have never used the fazer to roam beyond 200 kms in a day, but with my new bike I intend to make Chennai- Bangalore roundtrips once in a month atleast, will KTM Duke 200's aggresive riding position allow me to cover this distance with 1-2 breaks at max `350kms
iii) I know CBR250R will be sluggish in Bangalore traffic, how is the traffic in Chennai comparatively (being from Goa , traffic is a new phenomena for me :P)
iv) My back gets a little sore when i ride my fazer constantly at 80-90 kmph , will there be similar issues with all of the 3 shortlisted bike
    v) How is the riding position of RC200 compared to CBR250 (reviews suggest cbr250 has a much better comfortable position)

Lastly will it be advisable to buy the bike in karnataka and then change registration in Chennai ( considering my hometown is in mysore), can i pay the tax for 2 states at the same time (but apply for registration number only for either TN/Karnataka) and claim refund 2 years later from TN RTO office (is it much of a hassle ??))

      i) How comfortable is the pillion on a CBR250R when compared to a KTM Duke 200 or RC 200 (Pillion is more comfortable in Honda Cbr. IN duke pillion almost doesnot exist.)
ii) Till date i have never used the fazer to roam beyond 200 kms in a day, but with my new bike I intend to make Chennai- Bangalore roundtrips once in a month atleast, will KTM Duke 200's aggresive riding position allow me to cover this distance with 1-2 breaks at max `350kms (If you are looking for LOng distance travel Duke is the best bike for you rather than CBR. If travelling is more on highway and less on city Traffic go for KTM Duke 200 RC. IF other way around KTM Duke 200 is the best bike for you)
iii) I know CBR250R will be sluggish in Bangalore traffic, how is the traffic in Chennai comparatively (being from Goa , traffic is a new phenomena for me :P) (CBR has a more aggressive Siting position. I think DUke will do just good in City)
iv) My back gets a little sore when i ride my fazer constantly at 80-90 kmph , will there be similar issues with all of the 3 shortlisted bike (DO check Gixxer also its less on power but a lot comfortable. For a naked Street bike riding with be on rough side. Honda CBR wont be a comforable bike(Personally dont like HOnda engine) )
      v) How is the riding position of RC200 compared to CBR250 (reviews suggest cbr250 has a much better comfortable position)Both the bikes are more or less the same. But the pillion will be more comfortable on CBR.

I think you should get the bike in chennai itslef it will cost yoou way less compaired to bangalore price.

CBR250 if you want to tour long and wide and with pillion and luggage. Also, as you have already been on Fazer, the faired dynamics of the CBR will be familier to you.
Duke 200 on the other side is a track focused fun-to-ride bike. Better in city in comparison to CBR. The RC200 and Duke 200 both lacks in pillion comfort though.
Both the bikes can maintain ~100 kmph all day long without much ado.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Duke 200 ain't aggressive, mate. Far from it.

            Go for it.

It's will easier in the city as well.
            Seat is decent enough.

Did you try taking a TD on the shortlisted bikes. People will have different opinions. RC is definitely aggresive driving position like your R15. I have never driven a RC, so I dont know about the seat comfy. But Pillion cannot definitely sit for a long drives. Its purely for short rides with Pillion. Unlike CBR, which has a good seat padding for touring.

Traffic in Chennai is getting worse day by day. Nothing more to add.

I have a duke 390. So maybe can comment on duke 200.
                1. Aggressive posture. It becomes comfortable once you get used Tobit.
                2. Touring. I have done 1800km in 3 days and it's just fine. The only problem is the tank size.
                3. Pillion seat. Me and my fren both have a d390 and concur on the fact that the pillion seat is a bit too small

I would suggest you TD the bikes in question and buy what the heart desires.

Same confusion for me to go for RC 200 or RC 390 . As my use will be very limited that is only in city and on weekends . Only reason considering RC 390 is for ABS .

                  Please suggest .

Thanks guys for your inputs, owing to minor price difference and feature of ABS in Duke 390 decided to go ahead with Duke 390 will TD the same this week. Will go for a TD of RC as well if available

Managed to get a very short test ride today of the Duke 390, yet to get a TD of RC390. Since they do not have official test ride bikes over here. The 390 keeps asking you to accelerate even in 1st gear , the bike got stalled quiet a few times, at low speeds i think you cannot let go of the clutch at all. Overall was satisfied with the seating position, handling of the bike... was more worried i might accelerate more than required in the traffic :P.
Might take the plunge in april
