This is the first time I am seeking advice on buying a bike on this forum so please excuse any lapses.
About me:
Budget - 2 - 2.5 Lakhs (max)
Age - 26
Height - 6 Ft
Weight - 85 Kgs
Intended Usage - Weekends - 250 Kms, maybe few weekdays but I already have a bike which I use on the weekdays for Office commute (Pulsar 200 NS)
80% riding on highways and about 20% in city
Brand/Bike Preference - Royal Enfield Continental GT
Not interested in - RE CLassic, T'bird, Electra or Standard, KTM bikes (too powerful for me), Bike with Fairing (Ninja, CBR, etc)
Intention of purchasing - next 3 months
I know it sort of seems from the preference that I have made up my mind but the truth is I havent come across many GT owners so I have no clue what the bike is like to live with. 2 Test rides were enough to make me fall in love but the reason I am also unsure is the reliability factor. I owned a bullet a decade ago and had sold it off due to its long list of problems. It used to spend more time with the mechanic than with me. Although I was relatively new to biking I never was rash or the sort of kid who sought an adrenaline rush with the twist of the throttle.
Since then I graduated to relatively faster and nimble bikes for their ease of maintenance (read CBZ classic and my current bike Pulsar 200 NS). I have begun touring mainly solo for the past year and though my NS gets the job done with relative ease and comfort, I really feel like graduating to something purer for the highways. Acceleration and top speed are not a criteria.
I have test ridden all the bikes I have mentioned in the criteria above and cannot stretch my budget beyond 2.5 lakhs. Even test rode the HD Street 750 but gave up the idea since buying it may be easier than maintaining it.
I guess I am looking for any suggestions for a bike other than the GT. Also if anyone can tell me how the bike is like to live with on a day to day basis - reliability mainly, I would be highly obliged. Havent seen too many ownership reviews online and posted the query in the Bullet forum too about a week ago but did not get any response. My reason for disliking the T'bird is the ride position, it didnt suit me. I loved the Classic 500, but it doesnt seem unique anymore, almost every 5 minutes you see one. The GT has the perfect mix of sporty and touring riding position. Again, please feel free to suggest any other bike which you may feel fit the bill.
Apologies for the long write up.
Thanks in advance!
