  • Which is the best quarter litre bike?

Hi Forum members. I own a Yamaha R15 v2.0 currently and looking for an upgrade in near future(Started saving money ). I have certain bikes in my wishlist currently, putting them below (1 being top priority):

    1. Kawasaki Z250 (Looks stupendous in this naked avatar).
    2. Ninja 300 (No comments as this is one of the best bikes anyone can have. But comes with a hefty price tag).
    3. Yamaha R25. (Not out yet . No price known as well)
    4. Benelli BN 302 (Not available yet and looks kind of normal from front but muscular from sides.)
    5. KTM 390 brothers (RC390 and D390 are good on price but I am not a fan, because of the not so good build quality)
    6. Any other bikes which is not out yet and worth waiting and is expected below 3.5 lacs on road.

What I want in my bike?
    1. Looks (on top priority)
    2. Faired/Naked (Any till it is comfortable to ride)
    3. No super-sport riding position, A slight bent while riding is okay.(My height is 5.5 feet)
    4. Purpose (More of a daily commute, Often fun riding)

    Thanks in Advance.

P.S: I know ninja is around 4 lacs but it is worth. I can't really can't extend my budget above 3.5 lacs not even a rupee extra . If i have to go for ninja I will have to borrow some money from my dad which I don't want.

    Query Approved

The Z250 is probably going to suit your requirements the best and is also the reason why it is number one on your list
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Did you try for GT250 from Hyosung. Its definitely a looker in the quater liter sugment. I am not very much sure on the riding stance. But looks a little sporty when compared to your current ride. If not that, then Z250 is a good buy until you upgrade to a bigger one.

One of my friends own GT250 but I didn't find the bike very nimble in traffic. It is eye catching but not really fun to ride. Something compact and fast is what I am looking for. It is bulky for a quarter litre segment. Ninja is also bulky but it is way premium as compared to gt250. Also GT250 has no cover over it's silencer which is like a frying pan near pillions feet.

Your best purchase would be a RC390. From 17ps to 43.5ps is a proper upgrade. Buying a Z250 (32ps) or even a Ninja (39ps) by paying 1 lakhs more for lesser power than RC isn't exactly a good deal unless you REALLY want a Japenese bike.

If I had that much money, I would..
            Buy a RC390 - 2.4x/2.5x lacs (on road)
Invest in a good 1/2 piece leather suit, helmet and riding boots - 50k
and still be left with some 50K for fuel for good 10-12 months.

Do not worry too much about RC quality. Globally it's doing well and hasn't received much criticism about ride and build quality.

Good luck and congrats in advance

D390 or rc390 are vfm bikes ! For half price of ninja you get super sticky tyres abs and spares are cheap and readily available !
Yes build quality when compared ninja or any Japanese counterpart is on lower side .. But it's not way to low .. For really comfortable daily commuting opt for old gen zmr its like luxury sedan of bike segment

The KTMs look like the best value for money product.
I too own a R15 and am used to the build quality of the japs, so yes the KTMs lack in this department.

If you want a bike right now, KTM should be the proper upgrade.
If you can wait, R25/R3 is about is be launched, Hero HX250 is just around the corner, Pulsar 200SS and 400SS may hit the streets.
So you'll have a lot of options to choose from.
All the best for your bike hunt.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Why aren't you considering the CBR? The new face lifted twin headlamp CBR might soon hit the market. It doesn't look too shabby either

I heard about CBR 300 hitting Indian roads soon. But I don't know how soon. And yes I would love to see R25 coming in the markets. Coming from R15 the japenese have set that bench mark in my mind about their build quality. Any news about Harley street 500 because I assume it will be around 3.5 lacs.

The only problem with both the CBR300R and the Harley Street 500 is that both these have no confirmed timeline on when they are going to be launched. Both have been with the 'Coming-soon" tag for quite some time now.

Now that KTM has updated the Duke 390 with a slipper clutch and few other minor features, do have a look at it once again.,

Is KTM surely getting a slipper clutch? I haven't heard/read about it anywhere.

The 2015 ktm duke 390 is indeed coming with a slipper clutch. The best bike has become even better and for 2 lakhs price bracket nothing even comes close to this.

Thanks Gautam. I don't know how to react to this clash of titans in the bike world. They just try to be better and better. Just imagine a person who would buy a bike a month ago before the new Duke comes in the market. How would he feel? I don't want to be in that place for sure. It is impossible to get the best bike I know because there will be something better than the best in couple of months.
