  • kindly help choosing a right bike for a new fellow xbhpian...!!!!!

hi guys, this is my first thread on xbhp...so please consider my faults (if any ) as your younger fellow brother......

Since I'm new, leet me introduce myself first.... B|

Myself Sayan Bhowmick, a student of class XII, a resident of Krishnanagar, W.B. I'm going to appear in the H.S. this 13th of march (I wish, it'll not be the "unlucky 13" )!!
My mom promised me to get a bike of my choice right after the exam is over. So, I've started daydreaming a lot...!! I've learnt riding a bike when I was in the 8th standard on my uncle's "Black Beauty" TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS. Since then, I've a lot off attractions onn two-wheelers I.e. bikes...!!

No more time wastes...... Let's get to the point...!!

I'm nothing else but a power-hunter. Till now, I've shorlisted some bikes within a budget of 01 lac 10 thousands max.

    1. Bajaj Pulsar 200NS
    2. Apache RTR 180 ABS
    3. Hero Motocorp Xtreme Sports
    2015,
    4. Suzuki Gixxer 155

Please buddies help me choosing my partner. I can't decide which one would tho best pick for me! U can frankly add ur choices too...!!

Plz guys, just gimme a damn right idea which one should I choose! I'm eagerly waiting for ur suggestions!!

*** Forgot to tell ya first, I'm 5'8" at height & 56 kgs onn weight!! ***

Once again, plz forgive me for any mistakes doone by me!! & don't forget to send ur opinion sharp...!!

    Thanks a lot in Advance!!

    Warm Regards,
    Sayan.

    Query Approved

    Firstly, welcome to xBhp Sayan.

Secondly, i sincerely hope that you will wait to turn 18 and get a DL before you start riding on public roads.

With regards to your motorcycle query, i believe the Gixxer or FZ should satisfy your requirements. Since you are a power hunter, let me add that with power comes responsibility

And finally, please do not use SMS Language on the forum. Thanks

    Cheers!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

      Hi Sayan,
      Welcome to the brotherhood.
As The Monk sir said, get a DL before you hit the road, Always wear a helmet, It spoils your hair but protects your head.

Now for the choice of the bikes.
If you truly are a power hunter, 200NS should be the obvious choice. It has the most power you get from a lakh of rupees.
If you want refinement, reliability and japanese technology, Fz V2.0 should be the one.
If you have a limited budget, Gixxer should be the choice.
You have ridden Apache RTR so you must be familiar with it.
Last is the Xtreme, keep in mind the last few models were complete failures, and it is the latest of all the above bikes, so nobody knows how they perform in real world. Also new launched bikes have tendency to have faults in the first few batches, so its better to avoid a new launched bike till it has been tested and tried by the people.

All the best for your bike hunt, But first focus on your exams.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

        Thanks a lot bro!!

My budget is around 1 lac, & according to your suggestion, I would go for either P200NS or Apache....!!
I'm on the way to pick the Xtreme as as odd one.

But there is something I wanna know, I've read some reviews about Apache that in long rides, it creates a back pain & it's not so smooth in the corners!! I mean, as they said!! I've some experiences, but only some!! And you guys know a lot than me...!!

On the other hand, P200NS is a speed freak. I've no complains about it because I know not a single bit of experience with it!! :-P

In this situation, can you please help me with the right informations???

The Apache has vibration problems around 6 - 8 thousand rpm mark. When you are in a long journey, the bike runs mostly between 6-8 k rpms, So the Apache rider has to deal with the vibrations and that causes fatigue or pain. But the vibrations are not that high and they are not the only reason for back pain. Improper posture and improper riding position are major causes for back pain. I ride a R15 and had back and wrist pain for few weeks, till I found the correct riding position, adjusted my weight the correct way, and now I can enjoy riding all day long. Apache is light and nimble on its feet and is easy to flick around in traffic. It is fairly good around corners.

200NS is indeed a speed freak, but it is also very heavy for a naked bike. And has a heavy front end which is not so good in corners, but the acceleration makes you forget about everything. Its the best value for money you can buy if you are power hungry.

I would suggest you to take long test rides of both bikes and then decide which one suits you the best.
Feel free to ask any more queries that might come up, we're here to help.

Yes, the dealer will arrange the test ride, no problem at all.
The dealer will do anything to make a sale and convince you buy the bike from his showroom, so he will agree to a test ride. He will send a guy as pillion with you.

There is no need to be confused, you will know which one you want, the moment you sit on it. It will just feel right, like the bike is made for you.
For more information visit the motorcycle ownership section and read the reviews from the long time owners of the bikes, to get a good idea about the capabilities of the bike.

The new RTRs, if you run in and maintain it properly then it will cause no prob and vibrations are not that much as most people say, new RTRs are smoother/refined than the old apaches.
And if you like to corner then first of all you must change the tyres then you must adjust the rear shock absorbers to full hard and she will corner well.
I do the same and also i use R15's front tyre(90/80 - 17), it does wonders for RTR

                  Hey Sayan,

First and foremost, Welcome to the club.

Since you quoted that you are power-hunter, and if you budget can be stretched a bit more, why dont you consider the D200 also, a bit more power than the NS and love the exhaust note when revved hard. Its like fast beting drum, IMO D200 is a better choice than NS. But if you budget is limited, then NS is a great choice from the list mentioned above. Just try taking a TD and see it for yourself, if you are able to control. Since you are not new to the biking world, I dont have to emphasise on the basics again.

NS is a much more refined/detuned engine of D200. It revs good at higher rpms, Power band delivery is linear and wont catch you by surprise when you wring open that throttle (be careful with that ). A.S.S shouldnt be of a great issue as Baja network for service is good and spares are cheaper too.

Just one more question, whats will be your intended purpose (i.e.) More city commuting or highway blast ??

sorry to say, my budget is 1lac 10k max....that's why, I'm unable to go for the KTM D200.....!! :-(

I'll normally use the bike for city commuting...but I have a hidden desire to go for a highway thrush twice or thrice a month!!

                      Hi Sayan, welcome to xbhp.
For the requirements you've, I'd suggest you Gixxer & Fzs2.0.
Both have youthful designs, reasonable power, bulid quality and smoothness. I understand that being only 18, you have inclination towards power and pick up. But, with great power comes great responsibility. And also, the most powerful one is not always the best.
Ride your machine for 4-5 years and then go for a much higher capacity bike like a Duke/P400/Ninja/R3. Now, please don't get me wrong here. I'm not doubting your skills. I'm just trying to say that power is not the 'only' criteria for selecting a bike.
And for heaven's sake, eliminate the thought process of bike selection for the time being. Remember, the exam of 10+2 will shape your entire future. Who knows, by the time your exam is over, you might get a few more viable options!
Best of luck with your exam.

Lets just say they will take you seriously if you go with your parents. They will be more eager to let you test ride and may even let you ride alone because your parents will be sitting with the manager having tea.

Going with friends will make them treat you like a kid. They will hand you a brochure of the bike and say test ride vehicle is not available right now.

Better to go with your parents and chill man. You are going to buy your first bike. enjoy the experience.

Thank you very much for your suggestion.....!!!

Yeah, you're right, I'm a bit attracted to the power & pickup of P200NS & obviously with it's dashing looks!! Some of my friends do have some powerful machines such as R15, Apache 180, ZMR, P220F & D200. You know, sometimes it feels very desperate for not having a bike!!! :-(

That's why I decided to go for the beast. Another reason is, there's none have a P200NS within 5 kmds around our locality!! So, uf I go for it, I'll be the unique person with a mighty beast as my partner!!! & it's not to mention but you can count me too as a pulsar maniac.!!!

So, let's see, what can be done!! I'll keep your words in my mind!!

                          Thanks for the wish!!! :-)

Dangerous words these! In the best interest of yourself and traffic around, I'd say:
                            1. Don't buy Pulsar 200NS. No no, not because it is beastly. Because of point 3.
                            2. Get yourself Suzuki Gixxer/FZ FI.
                            3. Get yourself a good helmet + good jacket + good gloves. We're talking about 6-10k combined for riding gear. Did you even read point 2 or directly jumped here?

Remember, you can have that adrenaline rush take over you, but there shouldn't be a day when you/your relatives feel sad that adrenaline rush took over you!

P.S - Shouldn't you be more concerned about your exams?
                            Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.
Because everyone who passes, isn't a martyr!

+1 to your post bro i think one should start learning basic bike riding skills with 125-150cc when one is mastered in that he can easier graduate to bigger bikes. My intention is not criticizing choice of TS but a simple suggestion for him because it will be his first bike.

When i was about to enter college and i demanded bike, my parents bought me an activa saying first learn this gearless vehicle.
