  • My First Bike Confusion

    Hello Everyone,

My name is Jeevan, I am from Hyderabad, I am new to XBHP. My main reason for joining here is to get suggestions from fellow bikers regarding my 1st bike. My age is 26, I am now settled with a good job and planning to buy my own bike. I know how to ride a bike. I have shortlisted certain bikes, please help me which is best.
    1. Duke 200(please post Pros & Cons of having Duke)
    2. Fz-Fi version 2.0
    3. Pulsar 200Ns
    Budget is not an issue.
As this is my 1st bike I want to know if it is alright to directly go for 200cc that too Duke. I am very much interested towards Duke 200 but having my doubts if I can handle it or not. If Duke is too much for a 1st timer, my next choice will be FZ - FI version 2.0.Please do reply me with your suggestions. If there is any other good bike in the segment please do add it. Thank U!

If budget is not the issue, go for Duke. It is the most powerful, and most fun to ride around.

As for this being your first bike, controlling Duke should not be a problem. You already know how to ride, right?? You just have to take things slow at first.

It will just take few days to get used to the crazy acceleration, but thats not a big deal because you will be in the run in period for the first thousand kms anyway, and would not be riding hard.
Duke is light, nimble and very easy to control in city traffic and powerful enough to keep you happy on the highways. Among the three you have shortlisted, I would recommend Duke.
It is most expensive among the short listed bikes, but its worth the price, with fuel injected engine, liquid cooling and a robust high revving engine.
Take test rides and then decide.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

        Hi,

You can actually wait for a a bit longer as D200 is going to get some upgrades which is going to handle the issues in the current version - Over heating, Coolant leak, Oil leak from Front fork. D200 is a fun bike to ride with lot of power available. My first bike was a P220 and during that time, It had massive power to put anybody behind you. D200 is a great machine, you wont regret the buy. If you are going to travel with pillion for long, then seating comfort might be an issue.
        R15S - Current
        Honda Dio - Current
        TNT 600i - Sold
        Classic 500 - Sold
        Pulsar 220 dtsi - Sold
        Yamaha YBX125 - Sold

You can handle a 200cc(Duke), not an issue as you already know how to ride.

But, you can wait for Pulsar 200SS, as it is a faired bike with nearly same power as Duke and better pillion seat.

How can I now when the updated model is available? The Showroom guys dont have any basic idea regarding the changes as I am going to showroom every week to know about the availability of 2015 model. One of the showroom guy even went to an extent of saying to me that the 2015 model will only be available after May. Also, I need ur suggestion regardig maintaining a 200cc bike. What should I keep in mind during delivery, During Run-in period, During the service etc?

Ya, I know how to ride a bike. However, I also would like to share that I had two major accidents with same Karizma becuase I was not able to control the speed of that bike. This was in my B.tech. However, during the same time I had good control over Apache RTR 180 on which I went for my driving test and passed it. Recently in 2015, I used Yamaha FZ old version for 1 month which belongs to my friend. I felt very much comfortable and controlled on that bike.

Also, please tell me if the maintainace of Duke 200 is more costly when compared to other bikes in this segment. I am not technically sound with bikes.

              Re: My First Bike Confusion

Buddy I am a little confused here.... In your other post you have mentioned that you have a RE Machismo and your options were between Gixxer and Duke 200. I am not sure how this is your first bike. Anyway go for Duke200. It is a great bike by all means. It will serve your city riding purpose and occasional long trips. Your RE machismo should also be a good bike for long rides.
