All the shortlisted scoots except vespa are reliable and build to last. Add Yamaha Alpha to your list, It is a very good contender. Basically the Japs (suzuki, honda, yamaha) are second to none in terms of reliability and build quality.

I would suggest you to choose the one which have telescopic suspension up front (access, ALpha etc) and not the tiny ones that start squeaking after a few months(maestro, activa etc). It makes traveling on bad roads easy and are more durable and robust than the tiny ones.

Test ride the short listed ones and choose the one that suits you the best.

Why not the Dio, Dio looks better than the ones you have mentioned (no offense, personally IMO). Honda's reliability is known for all and it uses the HET nowadays. So, mileage and other maintenance things should not be of great concern.

I am not sure on the sales chart of TVS jupiter as I dont see much running on the road.

No, Dio does not have a metal body. But as it turns out, no scoot except activa and vespa has a metal body. All have fibre plastic body, and they work just fine.

Now problems with Vespa.

First and foremost it is expensive as compared to the rest. And it give nothing to justify the price tag, it has nothing to offer except the looks. I mean, R15 is a very expensive 150 cc machine. But the price is very justified, everything in it from technology to build quality to fit and finish to reliability justifies its price. All I want to say is that if I pay 80 k for a scoot, am I getting the worth of my money, or am I spending that money on something that just looks good??
Second comes the reliability, there have been problems reported with brakes gone wonky by many customers. The brake drums cracked after a few months of ownership.
Then comes the useless service centers, that turn blind eye on any problem that the customer might report.
Then is the availability of the spare parts, which take a long time to reach the service centers, while the scoot gathers dust and the owner takes the bus.

So its a gamble, it may serve you well, but if it does breaks down, Its a headache.
With Japs, its peace of mind and hassle free ownership.
Choose wisely brother.

what about yamaha and suzuki ?

i don't have any budget set but i am looking to buy the best ownership experience money can buy!

Yeah, Honda sucks big time, in terms of after sales and service. But the reliability and build quality are top notch. You have to stand on their heads to make them admit that something is wrong with the bike.

I own a Yamaha and I think they are fair, not too good not too bad. At least they listen to the customer's problem with patience and fix it. It also helps, that you can find many Yamaha authorized service centers and you can choose the best one in your city.

Same cannot be said for Suzuki, because there are so few authorized service centers, that you dont have a choice, even in big cities, there are hardly one or two. So you have a very limited choice, if the service is not satisfactory.

i am thinking of getting activa 125 and getting it serviced from a trusted local mechanic

Yes, you can buy the original spare parts from the ASC.

It is a good idea to get it serviced from a trusted mechanic in front of your eyes.
What I would advice is - to get the scoot, you'll get about 6 free services along with it, which lasts for about a year and a warranty on the scoot which is only valid if you service the scoot at the ASC. So Get those free services from the ASC because there is nothing much to do on a new vehicle except oil change. and as soon as the free services are over, you can visit your trusted mechanic, and get things done, the way you like.

The reason I'm advising this, is because there is nothing much to do in a new vehicle except oil change and washing, and service centers charge only for the consumables (engine oil etc), So you have the warranty. Even if you take it to local mechanic, all he is going to do is change the engine oil and wash, but you loose the warranty. After the free services are over, if you are satisfied with them, all is good. if not, never visit the Authorized service centers again except to buy spare parts.
