  • Which 150cc / 180cc bike can I buy

    Hi mates,

I'm karthick and I'm from chennai. I'm here to choose a bike and not to choose of by my own.

Now I owe Pulsar 150cc 2008 model. Im not willing to sell the bike as of now since it has no issues but just feel kind of boredom with the ride.

I'm sure to avoid pulsar in my life. It was my dream bike when I bought it and i'm satisfied with what it has given me. NOW

I wish to go for other brand bike. But little more choosy with tech specs and feedback from you all.

I wish to opt for -

    150cc / 180cc
    HONDA / Yamaha / TVS
    Mileage to be between 40kmpl - 50kmpl
I give preference to handling , suspension , comfort short and long drives, Good braking power...
I'm 6.1 ft tall , 90kg weight, My hands are lengthy...

I liked the TVS Apache 180 ABS - Due to the ABS, pickup power , dual disc brake , The exhaust sound.. Im worried about the nitrox shock absorber - Fuel economy - quality of service stations for this kind of bike.

Moreover few of my friends say its not a suitable bike fro my height and it leads to back pain.

This is how my issue started in choosing a bike.

Can you please help me with a suggestion.

Is my height really a challenge for TVS apache kind of bike? along with the nitrox shocks .... Yes I have back pain issue with pulsar. Im not happy with pulsars shocks.

If the nitrox shock and the handle bar positioned is a challenge for my height and weight. Then Which bike could be a ideal one for me.... Please suggest me for a bike which could be ideal for my future....

    Thanks
    Karthick

      Hi,
If you want in the 150cc category go for the gixxer there's not much choice in the 180cc
If you can stretch your budget a bit I guess pulsar 200NS would be a good choice

If you plan to upgrade -
The Apache 180(ABS) is a really good bike. Personally I feel if you set aside the tyres and the vibrations, it has everything you could ask for. The ABS for that matter is a very good component as far as safety goes. But yes, for your height, I guess you could feel a little cramped.
Another good choice for you is P200 which is a good VFM bike and a worthy upgrade from P150.
You can also take a look at Karizma R for a more relaxed and composed ride.

If you plan to change the bike -
Within the 150cc segment, your first choices should be FZ-S V2.0 and Gixxer. Both are smooth, reliable and offer reasonable top end. The Yamaha scores in FI and the Suzuki in better power output. Also, be sure about whether you have a Suzuki dealership nearby or not.

          Re: Which 150cc / 180cc bike can I buy

Thanks for the reply and knowledge shared...

I personally love to take Apache 180 ABS. I love the sound , look, power , pickup, braking, and ABS safety... What I really wish to buy is a monocross shocks... which seems to be a better ride than the nitrox...

Yes my height is also a matter when I choose Apache.. It would not be a comfortable ride when it comes to long drive. Since I face the same issue in Pulsar 150...

Any one can please throw me some light on the Yamaha fazer 150 FI version 2.0... How about this bike ?

          Thanks

For your height Apache wont suit. Take 200NS or 200RS, best Value for money.
Apache 180 ABS only for ABS.

I'm 5.11' (or more than that ) and when I test rode apache, I didn't felt any height issue.
Though I hated the bike, It was a disaster.

I would suggest you post some stuff regarding what you are looking for in the bike..
ex: -- City commute or touring?..
                      Mileage -- (you indicated 40 kmpl )..
                      Budget.. (most important)..

                      My inputs --
Touring -- Apache and Fazer are out for that.. Avenger is awesome in that respect.. NS 200 would be good too (i recently did a 1900 km ride in 4 days on that.. effortless stuff).. Duke 390 would be the best of the lot in this respect..
City COmmute majorly -- Apache and Fazer are very good for that.. NS is decent too.. D 390 would be an overkill for that..

Mileage -- NS will give 40 almost.. Duke and RC are out.. Apache will give 40 too.. Fazer might be a notch below 40 though..

Honestly, if you really want to upgrade and that too from a P-150 then the Duke / RC 390 is the best option if budget is not a concern.. and now the RS 200 would change the game for you totally if you are on a lesser budget..

CBR 150 -- i think its overpriced.. you get a much better bike in the D 390 for the best that money can buy you.. ( RC would be out since the track oriented position will kill your already paining)..

too much gyaan but hope this helps..

This is awesome man... Thank you..

Ofcourse I want to balance the ride with Touring comfort and City ride..

I can see Pulsar NS is all around.

                        My expectations -

                        1) A good tourer bike with no hassle to drive for long hours. I mean the seat , back pain , Vibrations
                        2) Comfortable seating, Good pickup , Throttling
                        3) Safety - Sharp braking and anti skidding.
                        4) Mileage - I can compromise little. But not less than 40 KMPL
                        5) Long life and sporty one.

I just want to match and balance all the above things for both Touring and City ride.

Now Pulsar 200RS with ABS is released.. Any update on this ?

Im worried with bajaj engines and their performance.. Im not sure..

These bajaj dont have a proper service mechanic for Pulsar.. How come they are manage these high end bike ?

Please share all your thoughts to choose Pulsar 200 RS

Your first post says "You dont want Pulsar again in your life", now you come back and say I love pulsar RS. Buddy, Dont get influenced by so many factors. If you like pulsars, go for it. NS is a good city and tourer IMO.

If NS engine is hassle-free, I dont see any problems coming with RS.

                          1) A good tourer bike with no hassle to drive for long hours. I mean the seat , back pain , Vibrations - Seat comfort is something you can manage other than stock, add a foam padding to satisfy your butt. NS is not very sporty, but sportier compared to 150. You will develop back pain over continous driving (my experience over 100kms ride on my friends NS).

                          2) Comfortable seating, Good pickup , Throttling - Seating position is not an issue, foot pegs are little rear set and sporty, should match your height and lenght hands. 24 horses is more than enough to drop anyone behind you.

                          3) Safety - Sharp braking and anti skidding - Get it upgraded to steel braided if it comes with normal one, anti skidding ?? Upgrade your tyres.
                          4) Mileage - I can compromise little. But not less than 40 KMPL - should not be a problem driven at 80-90 kmph, try redling it, you wont see 40 for long.
                          5) Long life and sporty one - 5 years of good engine life or 100000 kms is good enough for any bikes these days. Maintenance is the key.

Now Pulsar 200RS with ABS is released.. Any update on this ? - You got to wait for some ownership review or try taking a TD and see for yourself.

These bajaj dont have a proper service mechanic for Pulsar.. Good mechanics are easy to find outside, why bother with company ones. Just complete yoor free service and find a reliable one outside who can handle FI engine.

                            You are welcome..

See.. the reason why pulsar is all around is because for that money its the best you can buy.. its not the best bike around but for that price you get a hell lot that others dont give you.. Decent mileage.. power.. handling.. braking efficiency.. looks (subjective).. low maintenance..

I still do not know your budget limits..

RS 200 -- wait for the reviews but if all goes well then it would be better then a NS anyday..
initial reports are saying the seating aint that aggressive.. so touring would be a great idea..
Unfortunately its a single channel ABS only so it helps you if you lock your front wheel frequently.. (but if you are like me who locks the rear up then it wont be of much help)..
Looks are good.. and full fairing so bit of help against wind blasts in touring..
But then 20kg heavier then NS and that might impact your pickup.. (although handling is not impacted due to that from what i read)..
                            Looks really cool (subjective again)..

The only -ve i would feel (only form a touring perspective) for the RS is the 200cc engine.. if i were you i would just wait for the 400cc pulsar.. going by the pricing they would launch it at under 2L INR and that would be an awesome bike to go for with ample power.. (considering that your budget is less then 2L.. else Duke 390 would be THE BIKE to pick anyday.. hands down..)

                              Hi Karthick ,

Yes I meant that I hate pulsar and bajaj products at the beginning of this thread.. Its not that the product is defective its about the service provided was bad and so on the product is not effective.

As far as indian bike what we expect is delivered when the bike is new but later when we approach the ASC ( Authorized Service Center ) Then our problem starts.

We guys are ready to pay for a good service but they just pull the money from us and don't give us back the best service.

Since I'm one of the affected customer. I'm not sure if all the ASC does the same. I have tried with 3 ASC but poor result at the end.

I just want to say this - They are not even technically sound to fix at least a new front Disc pad and fill up the Disc oil. They don't know the mechanism of the Hydraulic pressure. Each one mechanic say one reason to get rid of the issue.

                              I was fedup.

I know there is no other way and I have to live with this - Now coming to the new pulsar rs200.

In that post I didnt mention that I love this bike. It was just a suggestion placed on you guys to give me some valuable inputs to go for higher end pulsar bike.

Infact I wish to have a ABS system . Im not a guy who think about the engine power and capacity. Which means I dont mind the higher CC.

                              I just want a decent power between 150 cc - 200 cc ( 15ps to 25ps ). In return I expect 40 - 50 KMPL.

But I really need the safety measure and comfort.

Safety - Effective and sharp braking and anti skid. Though I'm not harsh driver but still the confident when I drive the bike will be high and pleasent.
Comfort - I mean this in terms of Shock absorb and the handling.

Anyway thanks guys. I'm still revolving around all the bikes.
