  • Unicorn 160 or Gixxer..plz Help

Hello guys.. I am very much new for biking. I am going to buy a new bike in some 3 or 4 days. Very much confused between unicorn 160 and gixxer. As this is my first bike, I want it to run at least for 5 years with no heavy maintainance( at least for 2 years low maintainance).
I will be having a pillion most of the time. Is this bike comfortable for lady pillion.? Even if it is not comfortable, should not be dangerous.
My worry is mileage n reliability. Honda gives both . I think unicorn 160 gives 50+ mileage as I heard. But has understated styling. Gixxer has good styling but mileage n reliability is a matter of concern for me.I heard that gixxer is having FE of 35-40. Is this going to run for 5 years..with no trouble. Is this reliable.?
In this forum, there may be people who have clocked 10k+ kms. So please give a bit of advice on this..... N what is this rpm.? How to set it n why to set it..
I can forego styling a bit for performance and reliability n mileage..

    Approved!

Unicorn would give 50+ only if you ride it at 50-55 kmph all the time. Take it to 60+ speeds and the mileage would drop.
Similarly, ride the Gixxer at <60 kmph and you'd get 45-50 kmpl, but that's not what it is meant for.

If you want high mileage and low maintenance, check out 100-125cc segment from Honda/Hero/TVS.

RPM in layman terms is the engine speed. Rotations Per Minute. You cannot set RPM. It is pre defined. Yes, there are certain things that can be set at particular RPMs though!
    Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

You will have to compromise on something buddy, If you want the looks and performance, erase the term mileage from your thought. IMO, Gixxer is a decent buy and looks good. Doing great across the nation. Targetted for 20-30 years of age. Mileage , Like DS said, 45-50 kmpl if driven sanely . Maintenance wise should be of no problem as its local made and spares must be cheap , not as cheap as Bajaj spares. Shoud be able to do easily 5 years + (again based on your maintenance)

Unicorn on the other hand may not be a ch**k magnet, but definitely the brannd Honda shoudl take you places. Spares and service are wide around the nation in case of any issues. With the HET, you should be able to draw atleast 50+ kmpl. But it comes at a price of 85k+ for standard model and 90+ for CBS,

IMO, if budget is not an issue and you want the reliability, go for CB160, not that I am against the Gixxer, But the previous standards of service from Suzuki and its service availablity and being a newbie to the block.

If you have taken a TD by now, you can get your choice correct. Again CB160 is a better buy all day long IMO.

As far as rider & pillion comfort is concerned, the Uni160 is a better buy than Gixxer. Gixxer has better styling though. As other members have already pointed out, spare can be as issue with the Suzuki in remote places.
Seating posture is unique to every person just like the positioning of the RVMs. You might find a posture not so good which other people like. The best judge is the one who is going to use the bike. Take a test ride and decide.

Doesn't RPM mean Revolutions per minute and not Rotations per minute?

Thank you all for your suggestions. I have bought CB160. Happy with it. As I ride only in the city I am now getting some 35-40 kmpl. It will be in the last band in the indicator at 35 kmpl so...actul mileage is going to be more. Pick up is awesome.Thank you all again for your suggestions.

Congrats on your buy. Yes, the mileage will surely increase after the first servicing and specially after the second servicing. Ride safe. Ride hard.
