  • Gixxer or Wait...?

Please let me know if there is any new bike to be launched in the coming few months at or below 1.5lakhs

I am from Bangalore, I weigh hardly 55Kgs, and I'm fairly thin. I need a bike for a daily commute of 80+Kms. My Max budget is 90K.
I went through many gixxer related posts in this Forum. But i'm not sure that the suggestions were suiting me. I'll be test riding the gixxer tomorrow.
My problem with gixxer is that, I have a Suzuki Hayate on which the gear shifting is very rough. Though on one model i test drove it was smooth, On my bike its very hard.
This issue is from day one. Me and my Elder brother tried communicating with Aryan Suzuki in bangalore many times, But for no use. So coming to my question, Gixxer owners is this Gear shift a problem with all Gixxers or do you think the Issue might be only in couple of bikes? Because i have checked on the ownership thread and many reviews of users telling me the gear shift is a bit hard. Also has the rusting issues been answered by suzuki in the newer versions of the bike?

I welcome all your valuable suggestions and I 'll be taking the bike only after thorough evals. Also If you guys can tell me anything else i might need to be worried about when i buy this bike! Any suggestions for other bikes are welcome but as far as the On road price is below 95k i'll be glad. because I cant stretch for anything more than that.

What I'm look on a bike : Ability to Corner well, No Vibrations till 90Kph, Mileage above 40Kmpl, Road grip and rider seat comfort on short and long rides.(Pillion comfort is not necessary).
The way i ride : Everyday commute for min 80Kms with a max speed of about 80-90KMPH on 100c bike and planning to cruise at 90-100KMPH.
Long rides which can include even 1000kms one way, which is the reason rider comfort is primary. I have driven above 80kms in my Hayate and the engine never failed me nor have i had to worry about comfort as the bike was very comfortable throughout.
People Riding : Me and My Bro. Both are Slim and weigh below 60kgs. Also our height is 5.3 and 5.8.
Budget : Max is below 1,50,000/-

Some Bikes i thought about :

1)KTM Duke 200: But The bike is said to have a costly maintenance rate and the stiff seat is a Bummer as i have to ride for more than an hour in a single stretch every morning and evening
2)Gixxer or SF: But, with the SF i dont know if i would be able to manage in the traffic. because the route to my daily work is 35kms ride in hard and stiff traffic in which i have to navigate through gaps.
=> Also the single disc brake setup worries me as my previous experience with disc have only lead me to fall down while brake.
3)Pulsar NS: The bike is actually heavy for me. Also the graphics on the new version are not for me. I wish we get the FI version soon. Because with the FI the NS might just earn a few brownie points
4)Pulsar RS: Overly done. And feels bad in traffic.

Apache or Draken: Will the next apache or draken be released soon by tvs. becase i heard these may be cheap

R15 and CBR150: Both of these bikes i think are good for high way but i wonder how they'll be for daily ride. also paying so much for a 150cc bike doesnt make sense with the gixxer on the block

If your answers are supporting Gixxer or opposing gixxer, Please remember to address the Issues that i Have asked about in detail if possible(not meaning to be rude) , and if there are others I should know about as well please do let me know . I need to buy a bike before june. So I am ready to wait for other versions or other bikes if any till that, but not after june. Also any ideas if Gixxer SF might suit my needs!

    P.S.
Main issue is the gear shift. Pls throw some light on it.

Thanks in advance for any provided feedback.

No, I really dont mind about the after sales service. I jsut want to know whether these issues that i have asked are there in all bikes or only in some.
And yes i can go for FZ or unicorn as well. But I really like the Performance on this bike. I just wish the users would let me know more on what i have asked.

The A.s.S is a very small part for me. because I just care more about the gear shifts issue. If thats there in all Suzuki Gixxers, I would have to rethink!

I will suggest that you go in for pulsar 180 ug4. It is in your budget as well as the bike is a class on its own. This is my like,
I had a list of bikes like
Twice I purchased unicorn then bought 180 ug4 sold it went to pulsar 220 but the bike was giving a lot of problem then sold that one to then bought a unicorn again and met with an accident with it hence sold that one to. Now finally I am back on pulsar 180 ug4 and this time don't want to see any other bike any more. This is the best bike I have. It is giving me a millage of 45 to 50 in city. But I don't go beyond 60 hence I believe if you ride the bike on the highway at 90 then I guess you might get an average of 38 - 40 I guess.
Anyways there is not a single problem. As people will say that there is a nuteral problem believe me it is not there in mine as I am not using the companies engine oil I am using moto 4 gold 20w50. From day one hence the bike sails like its on water. I have done like 6000 km in 1 year believe me buddy it is the best bike go and take a test ride of the bike then decide.
Rest is your money we are just here to guide you.
            Good luck ride safe.

I too own a pulsar 180, but wouldn't suggest it. Its not for your requirements. It vibrates alot at 90 (actually depends upon engine oil. if you use motul, vibrations are a lot less). High speed manoeuvering is non existence. For you height, its not suitable as well.

Would suggest you consider between FZ, Gixxer and Unicorn 160 only. My brother has FZ, and it has excellent comfort, and no vibs. No idea about this other bikes

Thank you for your detailed reply. Is the UG4 a different version of p180?

It's the 4th gen P180 (latest gen AFAIK). You don't get other versions now.

All your requirements are met by gixxer. Starting from FE to rider comfort, everything is fine. You won't get any vibration till the redline. And about the gear shift, it'll loosen up after 1000-1500 kms on the odo. It won't be as loose as a pulsar, but thats why gixxer gearshift is appreciated as very precise. You'll like it after a while.
The rusting issue is solved in the new bikes. Go for the Gixxer and you'll be more than just happy.
The sense of freedom these two wheels give can never be matched by anything else...

                      Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum and faced a similar predicament as Sriramlal some months ago. As an initial Honda fan, I was looking forward to try the new Unicorn 160 and had been visiting the local showrooms since a few months. In fact, I would go to them (Honda) every Sunday (as I am busy on weekdays) and enquire about the bike. I had zeroed-in on two bikes - Gixxer and Unicorn, and was waiting for the 160 after test riding the GSX.

Unfortunately (for Honda), I had enough waiting for three months (for the Unicorn) and bought the Gixxer out of sheer despair. Since I needed a new bike for city commuting and I tend to ride solo most of the time, the GSX proved a great bike till the 700kms I have ridden her till date. The sales guys at Honda were also not friendly which was quite contrary to the Suzuki guys. IMHO, if you ride solo without ladies sitting sideways, the Gixxer is a great bike for your budget.

Firstly congrats on the new purchase yes you have made a very good choice. Gixer is a very good machine just yesterday I took a TD of this bike and found it is worth the bike. As for honda well I don't want to comment on them as I have seen many people complaining of the first morning start problem of the bike even if you have used choke still for 5 km the bike gives you hard time.

A wise decision you have taken of going in for gixr. Just ride slowly in the first 1500 km. Ride at 40 don't cross 4000 rpm the bike will give you better results in the future. Yes for these 1500 km one gets really bored ridding at that speed but for a real break in it all depends on the ridder of how he wants to keep his bike.
                        Ones again congrats

Thank you Arjun sir.. I will surely stick to the running-in tips you have shared. By the way, I have run in every bike meticulously even if it was my decade old Enfield or my mum's almost new Scooty pep . I agree riding sedately is a bit boring for the first 2000kms but then the bikes are run-in for a lifetime!

I have edited my question and changed the budgets.
So finally i have decided to raise up the budget but only if i find good value for money.
I 'm Now looking at the quater litre section as well. I really love KTM duke 200, But now i guess they are increasing the Price.
All other bikes in the 250 section are above 2lakhs. I expected the Gixxer SF to be a proper bike in which suzuki addressed the issues with gixxer, Unfortunately they have added the fairing and improved nothing apart from that.
