  • What Bike??? Now or Later??

    Hi All,

I am starting this thread knowing that there are a lot of threads asking about bikes but my situation is unique. I proudly own an Aquila Pro GV650 and have done few trips on that too. Now the problem is that it is an all out Highway bike specially for wide roads owing to its extra large wheel base. I did take it to Nainital but roads to Nainital are as fine as they could be and still there were some large turns that bothered me. And here lies my problem. I couldn't take it to Lansdowne (uttranchal) as roads there are narrow and full of blind turns.

THerefore I am looking for a bike which is powerful enough with good torque and low in maintenance and comfortable enough for rides to DHaramshila, Leh, Harshil, Munsiyari etc.

THe bikes i am looking for are:
KTM Duke 390 - It has good torque and power but seat is too stiff for long rides
KTM Duke 200 - Since 250 has been unveiled, both heart and brain say no
CBR 250 - Good Bike but too heavy for its power and I had one earlier
    Kawasaki Z250 - Overpriced
Banelli 302 - not yet tested or driven
Pulser RS 200 - not yet tested or driven, moreover RS400 is what i would wait for
KTM Duke 690R - Heard that it is at the verge of being launched in India at 4lacs..
Pulser NS 200 - No fuel injection, though I believe that FI version will be out by July
Impulse 250 - no specs are yet out and looking at the history god only knows when will Hero launch it
Inazuma 250 - Has been withdrawn

These are some that i have considered, my budget is around 3.25lacs on road (exception of Duke 390R), I am 5'4" so saddle height actually matters, foot firmly on the ground is a big boon. Would love to hear from you guys according to you which one will suit me best and why?

    Query Approved

At 5'4" the Dukes and the NS would be too tall i would assume. Especially if you are planning to go to places with bad or no roads. Flat footing is a boon at such times. But that is an assumption, it is best if you ride it yourself and see what is the most comfortable ergonomics for you.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

      390. The bike to have.
      200. Forget it
CBR. You had. You are the best judge
      Z250 overpriced
Ninja 300 ???? Good Sports tourer IMO
      302 Good bike https://youtu.be/4GoRVYRHVXs Benelli TNT300 Review | Bikes Review | Bikes 200cc-350cc | Autocar India
RS200 Will wait for reviews to confirm if it is a tourer or not. Better than NS200
Duke 690 KTM Duke 690 Not Coming To India, To Be Replaced By Duke 790 | MotorBeam – Indian Car Bike News & Reviews
NS200 Nope. Get the RS200, if you decide to get a pulsar
Impulse 250. You'll not be able to handle it. And still some time away.
      Inazuma. No longer available

If willing to wait, get the HX250R or the Mojo

Re: What Bike??? Now or Later??

I have two issues to think about in Duke390 - One - It's seat is very very plasticky and will be a pain in behind on longer rides (i have ridden it for small distance and i could feel the numbness in my behind) - Second - The bike has a very small fuel tank and low FE. So the range actually is around 220-250 which might be a concern on rides like Leh and all.
I have read a lot about Mojo and the bike actually looks good though its launch is only speculative. HX250R I agree will be good as it is going to be the most powerful bike in the category so I am assuming about 40BHP (considering Ninja300, Z250 & R25, all produce 31 to 39 bhp. Problem is Hero is again very slow when it comes to bike launches at least the newer ones. TVS-BMW also seems to be readying an Apache250 but sadly no clearity on that too.
Also on a website, Pulsar CS400 launch was mentioned in July, i am assuming that will be ABS & FI and a lot more comfortable as compared to Duke390.

HX 250R would produce 31 hp when I read last about it. It's a 250cc single and expecting 40 hp from it is wrong IMHO.

D390 is the best buy for your budget, now that the pricing has increased by 9k approx on the ex-showrrom price. You can get a seat foam or a padding added. Its very unlikely that all of us will have their foot firmlt planted on the ground unless the seat height is <780mm. A bit of tip-toeing is managable. Did you get a TD done. If i were you, I will TD it once and check and straight away book it without looking for any other options. Only con that I see, is the amount of re-fuelling needed on longer drives. May be a tank range of 250 kms.

I wouldnt consider the other ones, as they are brand new on the field or bloody old.

I have ridden Duke390 & RC390 and for my height it was comfortable. Even the CBR 250 that I owned was comfortable enough. I guess my legs are longer for my height....

I would suggest D390 and get the seat padded.

No official confirmation. Only some speculations.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.
