  • Need help in choosing a bike which can serve both as a commuter and tourer??

    Hi Guys,

I do not own a bike currently. I will be commuting to my office 20 km to-n-fro, on weekend's long drive and occasional long trips (highways and hill station's) around 700 km on an average. Mileage is one thing i am concerned about as with big power comes lower mileage , but anything above 30 kmpl should be fine i guess. So, basically I am looking for a bike with a decent muscle power and good looks. I am 26 and this will be first bike after a long wait after driving bajaj scooter and Activa in my school days. I want a bike which i can keep with me for a long time, so can ignore resale value.

My height is 5'6", 80 kgs in weight. My budget is between 90k to 150k, not looking in any particular CC range but above 150 CC should fulfill my hunger. I have already sorted few bikes (check my buying preference below) over a period of a month by following forums, online reviews. As of now have not taken TR with any of these bikes. Thinking of taking a TR with RE TB350 this week, will update you guys about that.

Features i am looking for are :
    • Price range 90k - 150k,
    • Power - above 150 CC,
    • Mileage - above 30 kmpl,
    • Good looks (off course who wants a ugly looking bike ),
    • Comfortable in long rides,
    • Easy to maintain.

My buying preference for above bikes is :
    1. RE Thunderbird 350
    2. KTM Duke 200 (250 most probably as it will be launched soon)
    3. Honda CBR150
    4. Yamaha R15
    5. Pulsar RS200
    6. UM Renegade Commando (placed it 6th because its new will be hard to service everywhere and no reviews on reliability)

Any comment, suggestion and points are much appreciated

    cheers J

    Query Approved

From your list of requirements buy a RE only if you are madly in love with them, else you will complain for every niggle and that will take the joy away from a happy ownership experience.

From the list the best commuting bike is the Duke 200. You can also tour on it. If you have the RS200 on your list, then do check out the AS 200 as well, that would be decent for touring and commuting.

    All the best
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

I get it what you want to say, as i am hearing this a lot from other posts as well. I love are RETB, but i can't spend time fixing it in garage every other day. Is it worth spending that much money on RETB if its that problem prone?

Ya, duke will be top on my list if i won't go for RE. I heard that its pillion seat is no that comfortable. I think i'll take TR with these both first this weekend. Let's see how it goes. I am not sure about pulsar as lot my friends and relatives have it, already have driven it a lot.

Renegade will be launched next month, I think it will be a game changer if they put it under right price range.
