  • Pulsar RS 200 or Duke 200

    Hey guys,
The first time I saw spy shots of the RS 200 I kinda liked it, also because I had long been looking to get a bike and this was something new that was coming into the market. I had high expectations from the product. As it launched there was a huge media furore and positive reviews coming from everywhere. So I went ahead and booked it on 28th of March. (Without a test ride, only by looking at it. I am no fan but it sure is something different to look at)

A while later the deliveries started commencing, and actual reviews started coming. Turned out that the bike is pretty heavy and affects the overall performance. After a second and third look I could also make out the poorish quality of the fairing making me think again on my decision.

so it's been a lot of time I have spent thinking,
now it's either RS or Duke.

My parents are buying the bike for me and so the budget is not really a concern but what I am keeping in mind are the maintenance costs, cost of spares in case of any damage. Fuel efficiency around 30kmpl is okay. I am considering the duke, looking at the fact that spending 60k can get me a bigger and a better Duke sibling is also an option. So now the choices are- RS 200 vs Duke and if Duke then 200 vs 390.

    Query Approved

The two bikes are very different. If you like nakeds then the Dukes of course. Also if this is your first motorcycle, then you might want to stick to the Duke 200, else pick up the 390 if you feel its within your budget.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Since you have already made up your mind , Go for the Duke. But, the question is which one of them, What will be your intended usage, If you have prior experience in biking (i.e.) Good control etc etc, go for D390. If you are pretty new to biking, go for D200 and get yourself comforatble and make a bigger jump.

Since your parents are ready for spending, Better make it a good one, a safe one for you.

Maybe its just me but the D390 has a special kind of place in my heart. I couldnt get it due to my dad opposing me but that bike makes my heartbeat race. I would suggest anyone who has the budget for it to get it. Not only is it FAST, its amazingly flickable and tourable(From what I read).

Guys I spoke to a friend to realise that even though the Duke 390 is really priced well enough to be spoilt for choice but the fact that I haven't ridden enough to be comfortable with a 44 bhp beast still remains. I have ridden bikes but this one will be the first of my own- wouldn't D390 be too much to handle in terms of power?

Get the duke 390 and ride it under 80kmph for 2000km. So that you could handle and understand the power

Re: Pulsar RS 200 or Duke 200

Very honestly, abort the idea of buying a bike.

You are not ready to own it.

Buying these 'premium' bikes is more like a call of the wild. It should come from within.

In your case, it's just the media furore and all that.

Buying such an expensive bike and then keeping up with its petrol needs will only make you regret your decision of having bought it.

If you, and I mean IF you really want a bike, go for a commuter one to meet with your daily needs. When and if you ever do get satiated with the commuter and finally feel its time to upgrade, go get what you like then. Until then, its either no bike or just a regular commuter.
