  • Need a budget Tourer.

    Hi fellows,

I am new here and need some help selecting a touring bike under the budget of 1.5 lakhs.
I already have a Honda Stunner and Yamaha FZS.
I was looking at Bajaj Avenger and UM Renegade Commando. Please suggest if there is some other better options are there.Thanks.

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

What has the T'Bird 350 ever done to you? lolz.
20L tank gives perhaps the longest tank range on that 350cc carburettor sipper. (my 350cc gives a constant 46+). front and rear discs, Led tail lamps, good lighting upfront and a great stance for seating. Take a *serious* look at it.
And the Karizma's also pose a chance.

      *just adding to the doubt*

But, sersly, T'Bird350 is a jolly good tourer <1.5 L

      Regards,

        Hey The Monk,
My basic requirement for this bike is purely touring with my friends. Lately we have covered uttarakhand and some parts of up on my fz.
My height is 5.6 and thanks in advance.

        Hey Achyut,
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Thunderbird. In fact I love the new new TB, new tank, console and tail lamp and overall fuel consumption. But unfortunately my wife hates it, can u believe that.

At 1.5 lacs you have some good options. ZMR could be a great bike for touring, low maintenance and good fuel efficiency. The only problem could be looks (subjective). It has good pillion comfort. The rider sits in a slightly sporty posture. But I found it comfortable.

Pulsar 200NS is also a good tourer. Has upright stance. Cruises well upto 120kmph. Low maintenance and cheap spares. Decent fuel efficiency.

Duke 200 is also used by a lot of tourers. However, pillion comfort is really bad. Stay away from it if you plan to take your wife along anywhere. If you will be riding alone and love adrenaline pumping performance go for it.

I would ask you to stay away from UM. Not much is known about the bikes. I do know the engines are ditto copy of Honda blocks. However, it is better to stay away. Known devil is better than unknown angel.

Avenger has great comfort but the bike feels unrefined. Cruises well only upto 80-85kmph beyond which vibrations become bad. In terms of cruising speed you won't gain much from FZ. Bajaj is planning to bring an all new avenger for 2015. So it is likely the current version will be off the showrooms soon.

Test ride any bike before buying.

You are right let me check out the new pulsar. Also, do you know when bajaj is going to launch the new Avenger. I really like this bike, if they are releasing a updated model, I think I would wait till they do so.

Bajaj has plans to reveal the bike this year but not sure when. It seems they will use the NS engine which personally I would say is an absurd idea. Powering a cruiser with an oversquare engine and poor low end torque makes no sense. NS engine is a gem but not suitable for a cruiser. However, the choice is yours still. I think it will take some time as not a single spy pic has been seen on the internet.

Also remember Pulsar and Avenger are completely different animals even if they would have the same engine. I am implying the handling aspect.

If still no decision made the check out standard 350 which will fit within ur budget and also can add some modification to look awesome. The new one don't give heavy thump sound. Unless you wish to by changing silencer.

TB 350 all the way in that budget you have. Massive 20L tank for travel, decent mileage of 45+ kmpl driven between 70-90. Can cruise all day long at 80. What more do you want.

PS: Dude, its our responsibility to convince them and buy what we want. I did convince mine and got myself a CL500, she like it now, hated it when she saw it in picture. SO take her also when you do the TD and get her opinion to. Pillion comfort is good, not great, but definitely better than many other.

Guess it will help if you consider AS200 (Of-course test ride it before shortlisting it)

                              Touring + India = Torque!

None of the NS variants have enough oomph and the power delivery is as linear as it gets even if you crack open the throttle the moment you're in the power band.
Since the ZMA is off choice. I would suggest a P220, a pain in the ass at times but get the job done, like a boss.
