  • What bike do I choose ?

    Hi All,

Quite a quick background about me, I'm an IT professional pursuing my MS sponsored by the company.
Currently own a Discover 150 (2010)and a Santro Xing (2007). I am looking for a good bike upgrade as of now for daily commute and once in a while long drives (say once in 2/3 months).

Trying on site opportunity's to travel abroad after my MS completion probably after 2016. Setting up my mind for a new bike to enjoy till then in India and leave, no reselling plans as such.

    Age - 23
    Height - 6.1
    Weight - 60 KGS
    Physique - Lean
Intended usage - Daily office commute 60 kms round trip , once in a while long drives
Fuel efficiency - 30+ would be fine
City / Highway usage - Ride mostly on highways, 40 kms of the said 60 !
    City - Chennai (Guduvanchery)
Budget - Less than 1.5 L (Planning for a one time investment on bike for my passion towards riding)

    Bikes interested
    1. Royal Enfield Classic 350
    2. Honda CBR 150 R
    3. Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350

Leaving Yamaha R15 because of its high pillion seat !
Really confused if the RE's would suit my lean physique.

Please help me choose a bike and your personal advice's on sale class bikes other than these are also welcome..

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    THE END

I would suggest pulsar rs200 over other three you have mentioned.
Take a test drive and see if you like the ergonomics.

REs only if you are a RE fan. There is a lot to know about RE bikes (pros and cons) before purchasing one. If you do know, go ahead.
I know the GST road well. Did my bachelors at SRM University. I suggest you get a bike which is easy to handle as it gets jam packed almost from urapakkam to perungulathur in the evening. Would be easy to filter through. I am just assuming your office is towards the city!
CBR 150R is a great bike for touring and spirited riding but has very poor low end torque which makes city rides very hard. Trust me, your Discover 150 has better torque. But if your commute is not much through dense traffic, you could go for it. Very comfortable bike too!
I could recommend Duke 200 but the engine heat will only add to chennai's superhot temperatures. Traffic makes it worse. I used to ride a friend's Duke. Enjoyed the rides but would soon start feeling uncomfortable due to heat. Great bike though.
CBR 250R would be an overkill for your usage in my opinion and also out of your budget. But you could still consider it. Though it looks and is actually bulky, it handles well even in the city rides.
Hero Karizma ZMR could be a bike you can consider. Handles well, returns good fuel efficiency even in bad traffic, needless to talk about long rides, need not travel far for servicing. I think there is a service centre at Guduvanchery or Vandalur if I am right. Downsides are the looks (subjective), slightly rough engine compared to previous gen karizmas. VFM bike nevertheless.
My vote goes for Pulsar 200NS. Great all rounder. Again another VFM product. Has excellent top end and decent midrange. Don't expect it to have the low end torque of Karizma or Pulsar 220. But I found it decent enough to weave through traffic. Not sure if all Bajaj service centres are good at servicing liquid cooled engines. Don't go for RS yet. May have some issues which will be sorted out later.
P.S. Ride safe! Get all riding gears! GST road is extremely dangerous!

+1 for the above, 200NS is a decent city and highway tourer too... our GST roads are getting clogged day by day. ALl 3 bikes mentioned above are 3 diff categories. I hope you have got your choice mentioned correctly. I wouldnt recommed RE to anybody for its issues and little high on maintenance.

Get a NS, upgrade the stock tyres (if it comes with IRC) to a better MRF Zapper or anyother.

The NS200 will suit your needs well . It has good handling in the cities , good mileage and it's comfortable . But if you want more touring ability with same NS200 performance get the AS200

I ride in proper Mumbai traffic with my bull. It takes few kms to get used to. Long journey's ... Bullet is one of the best for it. You must also consider standard 500 or go the old school way then standard 350 (no disc or starter) . if still no then I vote for classic as TB is more electronic combo which does not go that well. Happy riding on whatever you decide.

Thanks all for your inputs.. I'm sure I'll try Pulsar 200 NS and consider that.
Personally, I haven't seen NS on road. How well does it suit my lean physique & 6.1 " height ?

Please put down your thoughts on these bikes considering my suiting factor too as I'm so concerned about the bike being suitable in terms of looks when I drive..

I don't understand young guys opting for RE bikes. The bikes are neither sharp (both in terms of acceleration or handling or braking) nor it has any of the latest feature and technology. To add the bikes will have reliability issues

RE's are best suited for 35+ guys who want a high cc which is comfortable and are least bothered about performance and features

Now coming on to the topic if you have 1.5L then the best bike for you is Duke 200 followed by Pulsar 200NS

I'm just surfing around the internet about the 200 NS ! I could see that the pillion rider seat a bit high like in the R15 V 2.0 .. Is it really tall making it a bit hard for pillion rider or how's it ?

Except for loud sound there are bikes which give you good road presence, comfort and stability. And RE's are not stable, its only because you ride that bike slow you feel stable

It is little high but not like R15. Once you sit as pillion in NS you don't find the position nervous like R15 or RC
