  • Choosing a first bike.!

Well Im about to buy a bike. Am totally confused and being a newbie to the biking world i have no idea what to do or which bike to choose. Im 6ft tall around 90kg and mostly i will be driving to office withweekend trips with friends. My driving experience is mostly on my sisters scooty and a little on my friends bike like max some 20km in total. Is the R15 a good choice or should i stick to street bikes like the fz or pulsars? My budget is around 1.3L. I hope the bike would last 3-4 years atleast. Some of my friends say the fz V2 is a better bet. BUT the r15 looks soo sweet.
Thanks in advance for all advice

    Query Approved

Depends on what are you looking for in a bike. For plain jane commuting and a bit of weekend fun, the FZ will indeed suffice. You can also check out the Pulsars, Gixxer and Unicorn. Though the 'looks' of the last might not appeal to someone of your age!

Also, do keep some cash in reserve to buy proper riding gear to go along with your new motorcycle

The afore mentioned bikes are different cadres. R15 carries very sporting position. But the others are very good city commute.
Please get your requirement straight. What is it that you like, street fighters or sporty bikes.

If its regular office commute, Gixxer or even NS is a good buy. NS serves better in both the areas of city commute and tourer.

R15 needs a very sporty riding posture. Not exactly comfortable for everyday office commutes. Stick to air cooled 150cc bikes. Go for Gixxer or Unicorn 160. Both are premium 150cc commuters. Both will also do justice to your weekend trips. FZV2 is a good bike but its cost is not justified in my opinion. Despite having fuel injection it only scores slightly better in terms of fuel efficiency than the other two bikes mentioned. But the other two have slightly better power and torque figures. You can invest the money saved in a good riding gears. Honda and Suzuki both make extremely well built machines. But service stations have not been exactly helpful in all places. So please do enquire about the service stations before getting a motorcycle. This ensure the bike does well in the long run.

          Re: Choosing a first bike.!

+1 for the above post. A sports bike (R15) would not be recommended because as you are new to biking world, any unwanted drop or even a small crash will cost you a lot of money because of the fairing and body panels which are expensive. And trust me you will drop the bike even standing still (happens to every one). So my advice would be to go with naked bikes first (Gixxer is a very good option). They are light and nimble in traffic and very easy to control. They have enough power to keep you happy for a few years till you gain some much wanted experience and also will figure out what kind of bike you really like, then go for a sporty bike.

I agree R15 looks so sweet, I own one, but when I bought it I had about 8 years of riding experience, and I still have to take care not to be careless with it, lest I drop it.

So take test rides of all the shortlisted bikes, and then choose the one that suits you the best. And if you think you still want the R15, go for it. But learn to master it slowly, step by step.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

I would suggest you to consider Suzuki Gixxer/ Gixxer SF or Pulsar AS 150/200.

Since you have little experience with motorcycles its better to stay away from a super-sport inspired motorcycle like the r15. Something like the Gixxer would be ideal as a first bike.

                Cheers
