• Choosing a bike between 200-300 cc

Hi All,

I am planning to buy a new bike in the range of 200-300cc. I am bit confused to choose which.

My requirements are:

1. Riding Comfort. I don't like forward lean positions. I like straight sitting position which is helpful for long drives.
2. Pillion Comfort. It should be good
3. ABS. I am a bit safety concerned. So I prefer ABS.
4. No fairing. I really don't like fairing at all. I prefer street-fighter type design.
5. No RE. I don't like them.

For the above requirements, I didn't get options at all in the Indian Market. So I compromised on fairing. I got below options:
1. RS 200 (Riding Position is good. But single Channel ABS. Also I heard that Bajaj Engines are not so good on long drives. It gets heated up a lot. And also heard that Bajaj engines are not so reliable on long run)
2. CBR250 (Supposedly good engine with ABS. But riding position is not so good, leaning forward, which is not so good for long drives)

I am also planning to remove the fairing from above bike (whichever I buy) and modify as a normal headlight bike. Will this affect the ABS functionality? (I heard that ABS is calibrated based on bike weight and design.)

Please suggest.

As per your specs, I would say RS200 would suit you better as you sit on it in a more upright position as compared to CBR250R. But between the two bikes, I would say CBR250R is a better bike in terms of reliability and safety (CBR250R has dual channel ABS and RS200 has single channel ABS).

I had the same confusion in mind before booking my RS200. CBR250R production is stopped (or thats what I have heard from many forums) and I didnt want to buy an outgoing bike. Hence after long hours of reading reviews, comments and multiple test rides with friends and my wife, I booked RS200 with no cross thoughts. Eagerly waiting for the bike now.

Also look for Benelli TNT 300. It's riding position is very comfortable. Pillion seat is also pretty good. Street fighter looks but with no ABS.

sandeepks: Thanks for the response. But I heard that the Bajaj engines are not so good in long term usage. Is is true? That's I am little hesitant to buy it.
rockstar.ash23, I have already considered Benelli 300 and Ninja z250. Both are out of budget for me. I am planning to buy in the price range of 1.5 to 2 L

Why don't you check ownership threads of rs200 or ns200 mainly and then decide about reliability. The new engine is proven and that's why it made into new bikes as well. Three models same engine. Stop listening start learning

The KTM 390 is also a good option . It's good for touring , ABS , reliable, straight sitting position , and if you change the stock seat to a better one , it will be perfect.

You may get a Pulsar 200 NS, Its engine is a gem. You won't regret it. The new lots come with MRF tyres. Coupled with Bybre brakes, It can shed speed faster than most other bikes.

For me, the math is different: 2 >4, which only a true Biker can Understand.

As Rex2688 rightly said, 200NS is a proven engine. And after 3 years of positive ownership experience and multiple reviews praising the giant leap taken by bajaj towards quality and reliability in 200NS, it instills lot of confidence in prospective buyers.

However, if you are very worried about Bajaj engines even now, I would suggest that you buy KTM Duke 390.

I drive CBR250 it's not forward leaning. Many people think it's sport bike but it's more of sport tourer and it's designed for long drives. RS200 seems to be good choice too I have seen bike in person and I got say I'm impressed by the build quality. Haven't driven yet though.
