  • Opting for Hero Glamour in Dhaka. Thoughts?

Hello, I have managed the cash to buy my first ever bike. I really wanted an Yamaha FZ but for cash limitation I am having to buy a 125cc one, bikes are insanely costly in Bangladesh. Hero Glamour costs around 55 to 60k in India as I read, however in Bangladesh it costs 160k due to import tax. According to this forum guideline here are the info:

    I am 29 years old
    5 feet 6 inch tall
    weighing around 55 kg
I will mostly commute and also occasionally go for long tours of around 150 to 300km or more.
Fuel economy is 40-50 which is ok for me.
Monthly running will be around 200km I guess, since I am mainly a bicyclist

So is this a good choice? There are Suzuki Slingshot Plus, Honda CB Shine available at the same price, but I like the look of Glamour most (except for the headlamp which I think looks ugly). I am a cool headed guy, speeding is not my concern. Need opinion regarding this. Thanks.

    Query Approved

Since i do not know the Bangladesh market and as you say the FZ is out of your budget. The bike from the list you have provided is the Honda Shine. Looks are subjective, but this is a really smooth easy bike to ride and own.

We do have a few members from Bangladesh, hopefully they will chip in with better knowledge of the market.

    Cheers

OMG! And we're crying here for SBK's to be very expensive in India . 160K is lot of money for a 125cc bike, we can get a CBR 250 in India with adding few thousand bucks.

      Sorry for the OT.

Bikers here in BD are going crazy because so far I know 130% import TAX is added with the original price. I have no clue why. Perhaps the govt do not want bikes to flourish and as a result put more pressure on the fuel sale. These are my guess only.

There are few local manufacturers, but for long run I kind of doubt their reliability, as I am not willing to change the bike very soon.

Yes. Bikes in Bangladesh cost nearly 2.5-3 times the original price as compared to India AFAIK.
Coming to your query, Glamour is a good commuter for city riding. And going by the type of traffic one is supposed to go through in Dhaka city(been there for two weeks), Glamour is a good choice. But, Honda Shine is a better choice due to a better engine and build quality. Both these bikes are good below 60 kmph and for daily commutes.
But, if you ask me, I'd suggest you the Yamaha Gladiator aka SS125. It's a gem. Specially for longer rides. Apart from the brilliant engine and gearbox the comfort level and power output is better than the other too. Due to the less numbers, the exclusivity factor is there. Go through the ownership reviews of these bikes, and you will have a better idea.
P.S. I'm not suggesting you because I own a SS125 myself. It's because I think it'd suit your requirements better.

Unfortunately Gladiator SS125 is no longer imported here. Recently government has decided to charge more tax on imported brands, and help the local brands grow. But funny thing is, local brands have no clue of what they are doing, no R&D.... Perhaps their own employees also do not use their own brands.

I have another query relating to this. If I choose the Glamour, is it possible to equip it with tubeless tires without doing any modification to the rims or anything?

I don't think any big mods will be required. You'll have to change the tires with a suitable size.
