  • Please suggest a best bike for me!

    Hello all!

Currently, I own a Bajaj CT -100, purchased on Jan 2005. Planning to replace it with a new one. So, please give me your suggestion considering my preferences listed below.

    • Budget - Rs. 60k (can be stretched up to 62k)
    • For daily office commuting within city limit (15-20 kms daily), would very rarely travel on highways
    • Good mileage
    • Good seating space and comfort for both rider and pillion (especially saree clad woman and relatively aged person)
    • Good road grip
    • Good headlights, brakes
    • Less maintenance and easily availability spare parts
    • Planning to use my new bike at least next 10 years (may be even more if possible)

Additional info: My age is 31, weight: 97 kg, height: 5' 7"

Above listed are requirements and I feel that it is too much according to my knowledge.

The list of bikes I have shortlisted so far

Hero Passion Pro (but quite skeptical about its new model and its engine (Honda or Hero?)

Honda Dream Yuga (Skeptical about its mileage, and road grip as I found some people say it has thin/skinny tires and can easily slip)

Honda Dream Neo (I feel its cheaper version of Dream Yuga and skeptical about its road grip)

Discover 100M (Skeptical on its reliability, durability and seating space)

Platina ES (Again reliability and durability issue, but has good seating space)

I have shared my opinion based on my knowledge I have gained. Please suggest me a good bike and also tell the reason. I expecting more people to share their suggestion here.

Thank You Very Much in advance!

Why not consider TVS Star City Sport version. COmes wit Black alloys, has good style , If you are looking for disc brakes, you will be disappointed. TVS spares are easy to find, nice rideabilty inside city. Decent pillion comfort.

Try taking a TD with the pillion and see, you will get a better idea.

You have a very clear idea about your need. That is very important.
Apart from the bikes you have mentioned, you can have a look at the new Saluto from Yamaha. For a long ownership, a Yamaha will never disappoint you. Will cost you around 64k and the design is refreshing as well.
The dream series is a serious option as a commuter. Yes, the tyres can be a concern though. But engine is better than the 110 cc Hero counterparts. The Passion series is a proven one in Indian market but I personally was never fond of them as I found them too commuterish.
If you have a Suzuki dealership nearby, check out the Hayate. It's an understated bike which can tick most of your boxes.
Whatever you choose, please don't consider bikes with claims of astounding mileage. It's like dieting/starving oneself unless malnutrition hits hard! Never something for a long companionship.
        Best of luck!

My father purchased a dream Yuga recently. In normal city conditions, the bike returns around 60 kmpl. Yes, the tyres are thin. It came with tvs tyres. The engine however is butter smooth. If you ride below 60-65 kmph, the tyres won't be a concern though.

Neo and cd110 share the same engine. The showroom guys told that neo is a splendor replacement and Yuga is for passion.

Thanks for the suggestion. When I visited TVS showroom yesterday with my wife, the showroom guy told that TVS Star City Sport will suit for college students as it had lean seat. Then he recommended me TVS Star City Plus, which was not only attractive but also had well built body and switch when compared Hero and Bajaj (IMO). It is also very cheap (On road price - 56,000) than other 100/110C bikes.

One of my friend told me that TVS engines are long lasting and fuel efficient, but its speedometer/odometer/fuel gauge may fail frequently. Is that true? My current Bjaja CT-100 bike don't have speedo/odo in working condition. Though I repaired it many times, it will last for some days and again it will not stop working. Due to this I am unable know my bike's mileage for years. I don't want my new bike to face such condition. Moreover, I have read some people (in XBHP ownership thread and mouthshut website) saying that digital fuel gauge is not working properly.

I request you and other people to opinion on buying TVS Star City Plus

            @krishna77

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't I have a Suzuki dealer near my home anyhow will check. How about Suzuki Slingshot? It has disc brake it seems and the on road price is 62, 251 only.

            Thanks

Re: Please suggest a best bike for me!

Yes, Slingshot is a very good option. But the main problem with Suzuki is they don't have sufficient dealerships to compliment their wonderful products.

Thanks for the suggestion (sorry for acknowledging late)

I took a very short test ride of Dream Yuga with my wife and the experience was pretty decent. However, I am not considering this bike because of its tires and price (65+), I feel that it is a big price for a 110 CC bike.

After doing some research, I have shortlisted Hero Passion Pro and Yamaha Saluto. Will be deciding among the two in a day or two.

Yamaha Saluto is cost 63K+ on road, however, it is a 125 CC bike and I feel that is cheaper.

                Comments and suggestions are welcome.

                Thanks

Yes, even my father felt so after looking at the on-road price. We almost forgot yuga and finalised on passion pro. So, 2 days before our tentative purchase date, we came across a news paper ad with an offer that was too good to be true. Flat 8000 off on neo and yuga... it was a new showroom that was about to open in a couple of days. So, they offered that discount for the first day only. We booked one for 56000 on-road with all accessories included...

Regarding your final list, saluto can be considered seriously. Heard lot of good reviews about that bike. Keep us informed about your purchase though..congrats in advance..

8000 off on neo and yuga!!! OMG! Great! No words!

Tnanks for your suggestion. Could you please tell me your opinion regarding Yamaha spare parts availability. The only thing that is stopping to finalize Yamaha Saluto is my worry about availability of spare parts in future. I find lots of people on the Internet crying non-availability of Yamaha parts.

                    Thanks

Well, I do agree with the spare parts issue. A friend of mine owns an fz and he always complains about the SVC. If you can find a decent Yamaha SVC, finding spares won't be a problem. They have frequently used spares on hand. If you need something else, they will get it, but you have to wait for a couple of days. Finding a good SVC is more of an issue compared to spares though...

Jokes aside, not all SVCs are bad, if you have any friends who own yamaha bikes, get in touch with them. They might give you an actual review of the SVC in your area.

Finally I have decided to go with Passion Pro (though my heart was beating for Yamaha) as it meet my all requirements.

Visited the Hero showroom yesterday and they have only new model Passion Pro 2015, which is pending approval by RTO (chennai). The new model look somewhat sleek and has relatively thin TVS tyres. There was limited colors available and the showroom guy told that more colors will come on Monday. Will visit the showroom on Monday to select the color, Will post the photos soon,

Thanks everybody for your valuable suggestions!
