  • Commuter in Bangalore under 1 lk

    Hi Friends,

Please help me suggest a bike for myself.
I am 5'4" and have been riding Super Splendor and Glamour comfortably for over 8 years.

I am moving to Bangalore this month end and need to buy a bike there.

    1. Budget : 1 lakh approx.
    2. Age : 28 years
    3. Height : 5'4"
    4. Weight : 60 kgs (myself) + approx 50-55 kgs (wife)
    5. Intended usage : Mostly Office commute and Weekend recreation riding.
    6. Fuel Efficiency requirement : Would be happy to get anything over 40.

After going though a lot of reviews and posts, I have convinced with both Gixxer and FZS Fi. Personally, Gixxer is my ideal choice.
However, there is one problem - the pillion seat height. My wife is not very convinced with the slightly higher seating position. Let me also tell you that we have not taken a test ride yet but planning to do it soon.

Meanwhile, can you please suggest me if there is any other option that would fit us ?

Unicorn 160 seems to be a good buy but the looks are a total turn off.
Also, the Pulsar AS 150 has been launched recently, but I not sure about it as Pulsars usually have a higher seating position. Can anyone correct me on this?
Avenger is not really an option for me as I have heard that it's more suited for taller people and longer rides.

    Thanks in advance.

The Pulsar Adventures are a bit too tall for you to manage comfortably with a pillion. The Avenger if you like it should be good for you.

The Gixxer is nice, pillion seat not so nice, the FZ trumps it in this regard.

The Discover 150 is decent with reasonably good pillion comfort. The Unicorn 160 is perfect except its plain jane looks.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Gixxer's pillion seat seems a little short on length and high to me.
FZ V2.0 has a more comfortable seat. FZ V2.0 is a little under-powered than Gixxer though.
Take test rides of both the bikes with your wife as pillion and decide.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

        Thanks for the approval.

The Avenger suits me perfectly in terms of pillion seat comfort, however I am not very inclined towards it because of the following reasons:
        1. Heard (and read) that it suits better for taller people.
        2. Since it's a cruiser bike, will it be comfortable enough for driving in the city traffic in Bangalore ?

Discover 150 seems to be a decent bike but the looks are a total turn off for me. Same applies to the Unicorn 160 too.

I have heard that the FZS V2 has a better seat than the Gixxer, but is the seat comfort really that must better to consider it over Gixxer (or the Gixxer SF)?
Morevoer, on checking the specification of Gixxer and FZ S Fi, the seat height of Gixxer is 10mm is less than FZS FI. But since the pillion seats are a little higher, I could not find any information on that. Can anyone please throw some light on it?

Also, can you tell me if faired bikes are good for city riding ?
After the Gixxer SF launch I have really started liking faired bikes. And how does the Fazer FI compete with FSZ FI ? I've always seen people suggesting FZS FI but not so much the case with Fazer FI.

Purely based on my experiences sitting pillion for about 1500 km on the Avenger (spread over 4 rides), I'd say it is very uncomfortable for the pillion.
Don't be surprised! Rider has a comfy seat and the pillion has a back rest/sissy bar but the pillion seat is way too thin for long rides. Heck, even a 45 min city ride in traffic gave me cramps!

If you opt for the Avy (a brilliant vehicle overall - can handle BLR roads easily), do plan on getting the pillion seat widened and padded.

Faired bikes are a little more difficult in stop and go traffic. But, depends upon you whether you will be able to navigate the same or not. If you are ok, then not to worry about.
BTW, it's a tough choice between Gixxer SF and Fazer V2.0. Both are designed well and virtually don't face any competition in their segment.
