  • 300 - 600 CC Segment confusion

    1. Budget :- 4-5L --- can stretch for something special.
    2. Age :- 27
    3. Height :- 5 feet 7 inch
    4. Weight :- 60 Kgs
    5. Intended usage (eg. Office/College commute, Highway runs, Racetrack usage, Weekend recreation riding etc.) :- Office on daily basis.. once a month outing outside the city.
    6. Fuel Efficiency requirement (approx., if any) :- 20+kmpl
    7. City & Highway percentage usage :- 60/40
    8. Approximate Daily / Monthly running :- 60-70 kms / 1500-2000 kms
    9. City / Town /Village of residence (so we can evaluate road conditions / traffic / terrain / altitude / OTR pricing) :- New Delhi - Gurgaon
    10. Brand / Bike type preference (if any) :- I own duke 390, love the naked styling of the bike but I am open for fully faired bike as well.

I have been using duke for almost 1 and a half year now, its an amazing bike. Love the power delivery, light weight, abs, metz. The reason for the change is bike has minor niggles popping out every now and then crazy vibes. I would like to own something smooth, vibe free, reliable(duke has never given up on me), easy to ride in traffic (duke is very jerky in low rpms, very uncomfortable to ride with pillion), comfortable seating position, light weight as it would be easy for me to maneuver.

Bikes I have looked at so far:-

    1) YZF R3 & N300 :- Confused between these two, if only N300 had the console of YZF R3.

    2) TNT 300 & Z250 :- Not interested in this one but just kept for the sake of option.
    3) N650 & Benelli 600i :- I find both the bikes on the heavier side, lack of ABS, N650 looks wise doesn't attract me, Benelli 600i looks good and exhaust is eargasmic.
    4) CBR 650F & Z800 & ST 675R:- All these bikes are amazing if only they were in the budget of 7L. Personally I would opt for ST 675R as its light weight and perfect for my build.

    Regards

I am assuming you were to quote Daytona. I am not sure if STriple comes with R variant.

R3 and N300 are both good machine. If its just the console you are worried about, I wouldnt deny N300 just for that sake. 600i console is plain and jane, but just give me enought info what I wanted to know.

R3 console looks cool. I have never driven one, But have driven N300. Its a great machine and awesome tourer. Both the bikes should be able to tackle city traffic with ease.
Have you taken TD of these 2 machines.

IMO, Go for R3. Yamaha always produces great machine. When both the bikes lacks ABS at that cost (not sure how much slipper clutch would come to use). I would opt for R3 in that price tag.

If u have 4.6 as UR budget, blindly 'GO NINJA'. Good to ride within city and highways. Also the road presence it has among all 300 cc's is second to none. 6.8 budget, please mind having a look at the gold edition benelli tnt 600i.

Sorry for the typo, I meant ST 675, daytona is not a practical bike for daily usage and way way beyond my imaginable budget.
Obvious choice was benelli 600i but I know it will be a touch heavier for me control and maneuver the bike in traffic as well as in parking :P
Heart Says N300 and mind says R3 No TD as dealer are not allowing it yet.

I am not a big fan of sparkly things. If I had to go for benelli I would straight away go for either White or Black. Anyway I am pondering my decision between R3 & N300.

N300 :- Same SVC as of Duke and their dialogue "badi bike h sir vibration to hogi hi" just pisses me off and parts availability is a concern, have seen people waiting for a month to get the bike fixed.
R3 :- No idea about after sales service. Can only hope of it being better and cheaper than Kawasaki.

I am not sure of the service of Yamaha, since it is the first time they are launching a mid-size sport segment vehicle. But Kawasaki service must be good. Yes, They share the same platform as Duke. Parts availablity for both R3 and N300 could take time as they both are CKDs ( N300 is CKD, R3, I guess so).

For you, staying in same class doesnt make sense with experience on 390 and the budget too permits a 600class bike. Id say go big.

The reason for not upgrading is I am going to use it mostly for my daily commute and a bit of touring once a month. I will emphasize on this point that I weigh 60 Kgs, and handling a bike above 200 Kgs will be quite a big ordeal for me, at times I even find duke on the heavier side . Street Triple is the only one that seems okay for me but 9L is something I can't afford for the next 2 years.

It's a very confusing decision to choose between N300 and R3, even though I know one can't go wrong with both of them.

                Looks Wise :- N300
                Price :- R3
                Console :- R3
                Tank Capacity:- N300
and so on... no outright winner

Getting the test ride of R3 on sunday and hopefully will try to get one of Ninja as well. I guess that should do it finalize the choice.
