  • Scooter for Dad

Hello, I want to gift my dad a scooter as he won't ride a bike. I am not at all into scooters and I have no idea about what's best in it.

    Requirements:

    Biggest fuel tank
    Generous storage space
Dad cares a bit about fuel consumption
    Powerful engine

Budget : around 60k can add a bit more

Was thinking about the Kinetic blaze but unfortunately its no more in production

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Less fuel consumption and Powerful engine will not go hand in hand. Otherwise you can have a look at Vespa models (Currently most powerful scoots in India) .Suzuki access125/Active 125 are the other options. Do take a test ride of all these before deciding.
      Suzuki GS150R(Balck) 2009- 2012
Yamaha R15 V2(LE white) 2012 and Honda Dio V2 Matte

You can consider TVS Wega also. My dad rides one and is quite comfortable and mileage is also not bad either.

Vespa will be a good option mate. Also check out new Hero Duet.

For your dad's age, substance will be more needed than style. He needs a nimble scooter with a sturdy frame.
            I can think of
            1. Activa(perennial favorite .. many gentleman in their 60's could be seen riding an Activa)
            2. Jupiter(a scooter for all the seasons and all the reasons, tons of features and good wheelbase)
            3. Alpha(Brilliant build quality and engine)
Take him along for a test ride and let him judge.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

              +1

Activa is a market leader and it's 125cc engine does comes in handy on the roads.
On the other hand, TVS Jupiter is rich on features - the only drawback I feel is the lower capacity 110cc engine as compared to Activa.

P.S. Can anyone give an insight into a 110cc Jupiter engine vs 125cc Activa engine ?
I feel its a very close battle between the more powerful Activa and the more feature rich Jupiter !

So I took an Activa for test ride at Lavasa.. must say that its good. Hard to cross 70.. doesn't go beyond 75 though. Has a bit of cornerability, did a few laps n all. Remembered my olden days. Brakes nowhere near inspiring at high speeds, but bite is good enough to stop when going slow. Over all liked it, as dad hardly rides above 40 rather 35 I would say. The Puny tank it has, it did around 146kms in just 150bucks worth fuel (@66.91) returning a mileage of more than 60.

Is the Honda Dio same as good as the Activa. Reason I ask is I found the balanced weight distribution a bit bad and wheelspins are a bit common. Yet to test the Jupiter and the Maestro.

Its not hard to cross 70, I have done 80 on several occasions, touched 90 2-3 times but I was solo riding. But its kinda funny that you reviewed the scooter on basis of a track bike's parameters...
