  • Need Advice for Selecting my first bike

    Hello Everyone

I am going to buy a bike by this year end. I have already gone through most of the previous threads of 'What Bike'.
But sadly I have gone more confused.

So please help me deciding my first bike from the following details/requirements:

Budget: On Road Price should be less than 70000.
    Age: 27+
    Height: 5''11'
    Weight: 63
    Intended Usage: Office Commute
    Fuel Efficiency Requirement: 55+
City and Highway percentage usage: Nearly 100% city usage as my alternate ride for long journeys is My Car.
Approximately daily running: 5-10 kms daily
    City: Jammu (J&K)
    Brand Preference: No such preference
    Pillion Comfort is a must

Bikes zeroed in by me so far:

    TVS: Phoenix, Star City Plus
    Yamaha: Saluto
    Honda: Dream Neo, Shine(Old Model)
    Hero: Passion Xpro

Considering your fuel efficiency requirement you can look at anything between 100cc to 125cc bikes. From the top of my head I would straight away ask you to go for Glamour. The bike has decent handling, returns around 65kmpl under sane riding and service is never an issue. Assuming your terrain is hilly, the bike's fantastic torque will be helpful. Get the disc version. Passion XPro can probably deliver 70+kmpl but the lack of power and torque will be obvious with two people on. Decent bike though. Again get the disc version. I would not recommend TVS Star City as the bike is unstable beyond certain speeds and again its always better to opt for higher displacement. Pheonix is easily one of the best 125cc bikes in India. Except for the terrible TVS tires, the bike checks all boxes. Yamaha Saluto Disc should also be a good buy. Its a VFM product. Just make sure the Yamaha Service centre in your place is good. I do not understand what you mean by old Honda Shine. I recently rode a new Shine and it had MRF instead if TVS tyres. But still the bike's tyres felt skinny. Tested and proven bike. Just like I said for Yamaha, lookout for Honda's service centre too.

Yes terrain here in Jammu is mainly hilly, but my main usage is in city which is predominantly plain. I didn't consider Hero glamour as it is already in my home (Joint family)
Moreover I have ridden it many times but didn't find it peppy enough may be due to excess weight(129 kgs) and low power output combination. Nevertheless it is a reliable
bike and has good torque at lower RPMs. Will buy this if nothing else suits me.

Here in Jammu, most of the guys have Pulsars, Bullets, , FZs, Discovers, Glamours,Splendors, Passions etc. In Lower displacement bikes 100-125cc I haven't seen many
Phoenix, Honda Dream series etc. Even there are very few Honda Shines. Saluto is a new product so no idea about that.

Shine SP is too overpriced to me, so I ruled out that one.

Will test drive Saluto, Phoenix this weekend. (Both Showrooms are at same place) and Honda Shine & Passion Xpro later on.

Thanks for approving my query and for your valuable inputs.
