  • Help me in choosing my first bike.

Hi everyone, this is my first post here and I came here to finalize my first bike I'm going to purchase soon.Have gone through lots of posts to understand about of bikes. I'm 26yrs old & height about 5'5 weight around 65.& Only started driving 3 years back & have driven bikes like Pulsar,Boxer,Platina,Passion,Splendor,Yamaha Fzs. Last year I wanted to buy Yamaha Fzs (older version Green Matte edition) but somehow dropped the idea & spent money somewhere else. Now, I want to buy one nd I'm confused which one to pick.
I have finalized to choose b/w Yamaha Fz n Suzuki Gixxer. I have not ridden Gixxer infact have not seen any in city(Ludhiana).Just going by the reviews I think its good enough or sometimes I doubt if all r paid reviews of gixxer, why would some one not buy it here?
Anyway Now thing is I have also came to know about Gixxer SF it looks sexy n costs same as Yamaha FZ 1 lac on road as per quotations from both. I will be riding mainly in the city (to office & for official work) occasionally highways. Will this fairing will be burden for city riding? Whereas Yamaha FZv2 looks sexy as well but it doesn't come with manual kick which I think is important to have.
So basically I'm confused between FzsV2 , Gixxer , Gixxer sf.

    1. Budget 100K
    2. Age 26
    3. Height 5'5
    4. Weight 65
    5. Intended usage ( Office commute , city commute, few Highway trips in a year,)
    6. Fuel Efficiency requirement (approx 40+)
    7. City 80 & Highway percentage usage 20
    8. Approximate Daily 40kms running
    9. City ludhiana (so we can evaluate road conditions / traffic / terrain / altitude / OTR pricing)
    10. Brand Yamaha /Suzuki
    Gixxer/Gixxer SF/Yamaha FZV2

    Query Approved

Both the Gixxer and the FZ are good. I wouldn't go for the SF, except if i was a serious lover of unnecessary plastic!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Firstly bro, we don't drive bikes, we ride.
Secondly, you will get only a good bicycle in 1k not a motorcycle.
As Monk have already said, naked models are the best for city maneuvering and as your 80% ride will be in city you should choose naked over fairings.
Then comes which one to choose between these two. This is purely based on your liking. FZS v2 has very good decals whereas gixxer has lovely silencer.
But the main difference between them is FZS v2 has fuel injection and gixxer has carburetor. So the engine smoothness and fuel economy will be better in FZS v2. One of my friend has FZS v2 who rides like the sanest person in the world and gets a mileage of 50+ most of the times.
Gixxer has little more power under his hood than FZS v2 and thus it can do a better 0-100 and top speed. It will return nearly 40-44 km/l and may be higher as per your riding style.
Pillion comfort will be better in FZS v2 as it has split seat.
So the choice is totally yours. Just test ride both these bike and take the decision.
        Best of luck.

There is nothing like that bro. It all boils down to individual preference. Some ppl like naked bikes while some like faired bikes. Nowadays, all sorts of frame sliders are available which means even if you drop ur bike uptill speeds of 40-50 km/h, nothing will happen to the fairings.
However, believe it or not there is an advantage in favour of faired bikes as well which is you'll get more mileage on faired bikes than naked ones due to them being more aerodynamic! Usually, difference between them is around 2-5 km/l in favour of faired bikes.

I thought naked street fighters will get more mileage because of less weight due to absence of fairings.

haha forget the good part even a simple bicycle won't come in 1k. tht ws by mistake. & yes will remember tht We "Ride".

things i dont like about fz is it doesn't have a manual kick, seat height 1cm higher compare to gixxer & scratch prone tank as it is made of fibre,& 10k costly to gixxer now do these things matter as much?

in fairing i'm looking forward to gixxer sf only. will it be difficult to maneuver it in traffic jams? i haven't ridden any faired bike yet. felt bit odd on it when checked in showroom just because handle not attached with headlight and that space b/w handle bar also looked weird. could not test ride it so can't comment on that. although bike looks very sexy n tempting one.

No problem at all. It's just like naked bikes only. I am a former ZMR rider & believe me I used to stay ahead of all in traffic. But, definitely compared to a naked bike maneuverability is a bit less but it's nothing to be worried about at all. Chill.[emoji4] You'll be comfortably ahead of the pack if you're a little bit skilled.

Seat height of both bike will not be a problem if you have average height(e.g. 5'5"). Kick option will not make any difference if you do not live in extreme cold area. The extra cost for fzs v2 is for fuel injection system. If you like gixxer then go for it. It'll be also a very good bike. In fact I like gixxer over fzs v2.

Re: Help me in choosing my first bike.

As You mentioned earlier as you'll be mostly doing city rides than highways, The fairing is almost useless. Fairings are only useful after a certain amount of speed, which is mostly accquired in Highways. The FZ is more Fuel efficient than a Gixxer. Yamaha Spares AFAIK are easier to Obtain than Suzuki (atleast in my hometown) The carburettor setup on Gixxer sees that you can present it to your local mechanic for tuning etc. But the FZ will be requiring more experienced hands at work because of Fi System.
