  • Shopping for big bike

I am looking to upgrade on my ZMR and honestly I dont ride it that much. I am really looking to upgrade to a bigger bike and have test ridden the 600i and the street triple. Now with so many mid range bikes coming in, I wanted to reach out to ask you guys about your views. Some of my criteria -
    1. Comfort for street riding as well as touring once a while.
    2. Sound.
    3. Price (upto 10 lacs. lesser the better).
    4. Frill free ASS.

Have you not checked out the CBR650 or the Ninja650? Or are you not interested in faired bikes? The CBR is a pretty comfortable bike both for touring and city riding.

Also do check out the After Sales of various companies in your city and if possible get in touch with current owners for feedback of the various dealers.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Not really - I have seen them on the road and the character of the bikes is a bit "mild". i dont think that personality is something that I will enjoy. I was trying to check for original sound clips of the bike. I rode the 600i with ixil and it sounds insanely awesome. When I test rode the striple (about 4-5 months back), I dont remember if it had arrow on. Anyone has audio snippet of stock striple exhaust?

What are the other mid-range launches expected in 5-10 lac segment in next 6 months.

If you are in not in a hurry, then wait for the Auto Expo, something interesting might pop up!

We can expect versys 650, 636 etc to show up. Street triple don't sound that great. Try to listen to Gp m2. Its on YouTube I think.

U may checkout z800 as well.

If you are lucky fz9/ mt9 may come to India. But Yamaha is happy selling small bikes in India at the moment.

Are there z800 test rides available? I am limiting my choices to those which I can ride and find out if I fit or not. I have tried the 60i and felt a but underpowered, but an amazing ixil audio. The street triple is crazy fast with its tall 1st gear. It is very torquey and pulls with power throughout the rev range. I initially thought street triple to be a bit more powered than what I would need, but I am just not able to connect with any other bike right now.

I know that street triple is pricey and my concern is that once I buy it, triumph will announce a 1 lac rupee price cut.

Is there any 2nd hand bike market in Hyderabad, I would be willing to try out a year old striple to get me out of this hole.

Considering the package, it's not at all pricey (BTW its not a word [emoji14]).
It's completely VFM...unable to understand your concern about the price cut, there isn't any news regarding that as far as i know, correct me if i am wrong.

Any bikes with an aftermarket will sound good. I don't understand your term "Underpowered". What sort of usage will it be predominantly. For me even a 35 hp machine is powerful for a city laid with traffic snarls and pot-holes.

                .
I personally know a fellow here in Chennai who booked a Z800 and 10 days after his booking, Kawasaki India announced 55k price cut. If you have some contacts somewhere to get some information about something, Try that. I wouldn't be looking out into the sky waiting for some news to drop and then decide.

                  Re: Shopping for big bike

                  Ok, I will clarify.

Underpowered. I test rode street triple and 600i both on Hyderabad roads. While street triple pulls away with no noticeable lag as soon as I open the throttle, the Benelli has a weak torque curve. I believe you have to hit some high rpms before it pulls away. In city riding, I will not be riding on high RPMs all the while. It is in that context I feel the bike is underpowered, compared to what I expect from a 600cc machine. Triumph does not lag in this department, infact goes 1 up in my expectations.

For the bit about pricey (yes, I know its not a word), Do we agree that street triple is steeply priced in India market compared to other similar capable bikes (like Z800?). If we know that we know that India is a price sensitive market and manufacturers have to bow down to the consumers at some point of time. I have burnt my hands by buying Honda Jazz in 2010. No doubt an excellent car but was expensive in its category. After about 3 months of my buying the car, Honda announces a 1 lac price cut on the car. Will something similar happen to street triple. I see there is some probability of that happening based on previous experience and how triumph may plan to hit the Indian market for its goals of increasing penetration and my concerns stem from there.

Street Triple is one of the greatest bikes ever built in my opinion. However its not everybody's cup of tea at least in India, here people prefer, big bulky , crazy looking bikes than, light, agile, and clean looking bikes generally.

Now Triumph bikes are facing a stalling issue and the approach of Triumph India so far on this issue is not very appreciable. wait and see on this before putting your money down.

Used ST3s are a good option. I will let you know If I hear about any in Hyderabad.(in our ownership circles)

Z800 is available for test drive in Pune AFAIK.

Never knew you were a bike enthusiast, I had brought my P200 to Kolkata but what with their nonsensical no-student-vehicles-allowed rule I had to send it back.
