  • Help me Choose a Motorbike for occasional use

    Hello,

This is my first post in this forum. So please treat me softly.

I want to purchase my first bike this year. So let me start with this first.

    1. Budget: Below 1 Lac.
    2. Age: 36
    3. Height: 5'8"
    4. Weight: 63 Kg
    5. Intended usage: a) Weekend riding with my wife to nearby visiting places. b) Evening ride of 4 Km daily in Streets.
    6. Fuel Efficiency: Not required
    7. City & Highway percentage usage: 99% City Usage. Occasionally Highway riding if I get comfortable experience.
    8. Approximate Daily / Monthly running: 250 Km per Month
    9. City / Town /Village of residence: Kolkata Park Circus area.
    10. Brand / Bike type preference (if any): Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, Avenger.

I had driving experience on my dad's bike (Kawasaki Bajaj 4S) in 1998. I only learnt how to drive in village roads. Then I moved to Kolkata for study and never ride a bike again. Now I am in service with Office Car. But, I feel excited to imagine riding a bike as I never got the opportunity.

Few models I have selected so far (list is not final):

    1. Bajaj Avenger Street 150
    2. Honda CB Hornet 160R
    3. Yamaha FZ-S FI

Recently, I checked my driving skill with an old bike (platina 125) at town roads with my brother at pillion. The performance was average. That's why I am not confident to ride in metro city. Sometimes, I think I should go for Scooty like Honda Activa 125, Hero Maestro etc.

I am very much confused in this situation. Your guidance is highly solicited.

    Regards

    A. Iqbal

    Query Approved

How about getting just any 150cc used motorcycle for cheap. Ride around on that and see if you are comfortable enough to buy a bike for more than just 'occasional use'
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Practice will build confidence gradually. So don't worry about riding a bike in metro city. It's not a big deal.
As you will be riding with pillion it is advisable to go for the bikes with good pillion seat, e.g.
      1. Honda hornet.
      2. Bajaj Avenger.(Newer version has more comfortable seat than the older one.)
As you have mentioned that mileage is not an issue then I would not suggest Yamaha fzs fi(It would return the best mileage among all) as it lacks pillion comfort on longer ride. But in city ride it should not be a problem.
Suzuki Gixxer is a good choice with good looks and performance. But pillion seat is also not satisfying.
You can test ride these to have a better idea about what to choose.

Thanks for approving my query. I shall have hand on experience with my cousin's bike (Honda Shine). I can use it for a month to test my riding skill. After a month, I can decide whether to buy a new one or not. Then i think biking will not be "Occasional".

Thanks AbhiAvvy13 for your suggestion. As I am inclined to Classic Old looks of bike, so my choice would be Bajaj Avenger 150. (for looks and pillion comfort).

BTW I noticed that my driving license has been expired. So I need to renew/ apply for a fresh license at the earliest.
