  • Help to choose bike!

Believe me, I already searched the forum, but couldn't get the specifics that I'm looking for, so here is my question:

I'm 35 year old male, looking for his first bike! Due to spending more than half of my life on books and computers, I have developed a chronic back and neck ache. I'm 5ft6in tall and 73kg, with no to less cushion on my back (you know what I mean).

I'm looking for adventure (aka mid life crisis) like long tour and off roader (I want to visit some villages as well), with safe (abs), manageable ( light weight so that I can handle it), comfortable (I mentioned my cushion) with just enough power ( I'm not going to race for sure, but need something that can climb the ghats). Lastly, being a newbee at this age, I would prefer a bike with low maintenance (tubeless tires). The Budget is around 2 lakh, with +_ for good one!

I know I'm asking for too much, but I'm more than hopeful to hear from experts here!!!

one bonus trouble: although I'm planning to travel solo on bike, bikes with pillion also welcome so that I can try to make my Wife happy, if possible

    Approved!

Adventure tourer with a bad back and bad neck? Consult your doctor first and take his advice.
    Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

      Re: Help to choose bike!

Sir, for your requirements, a CBR 250R will do the job perfectly.
It is a fine combination of reliability, butter smooth engine and comfortable riding position. It comes with ABS(optional) and good tubeless radial tires.
You can do triple digit speeds all day long on it without stressing engine.
All in all a good touring bike.

The new kid on the block is Mahindra Mojo. But it is a new bike with very limited service network and has yet to prove its worth in terms of long term reliability.

Honda on the other hand is proven with age and a more sensible bet out of the two.

please take a test ride and then decide. A 10 min test ride will tell you more about a bike more than a month of reading and researching.
The sound of the engine, the bite of the brakes, how the bike behaves in city traffic, is it easy to handle with a pillion on the back seat etc etc.
All these things would be major deciding criteria in choosing a new bike. Take test rides and then decide.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

        For your requirements, I'd recommend:
Heavy bikes: Mahindra Mojo, Benelli TNT 25,
        Lightweight: Duke 390/ 200
Stay away from bikes that lean a little forward. But, that said you can try your hand at the CBR 250r if your budget permits.
However, looking at your requirements, Mahindra Mojo seems to be the best bet followed by Duke 200. But, the Mojo is bulky.

Your requirements point to CBR250(ABS). Ticks almost all the boxes in your checklist.

              Re: Help to choose bike!

There is only one bike that fits in all your requirements...CEEEBEEARRRR 250 (ABS, ofcourse)

But, take care of your health first. You might end up stressing your back whilst touring. Take a long TD(i.e. > 10kms) and decide.

You could wait for the TVS/BMW310R , probably towards end of this year .

                  Re: Help to choose bike!

CBR 250 ABS has all your requirements filled, Also check some adventure bikes for your requirements as well something that has high torque then BHP, comfortable for your back and the more heavy a bike is the better it will go for long rides or touring but it will be a pain in the back for back to back traffic so Mojo is also a good option but again the bike is heavy and ABS is months for now.

So go for A Test ride for the CBR 250, Mojo and see what you like.

I'm a person of similar height & weight. & I'm coming from a ZMR myself. It's too bulky for me + caused backpain too. Bought the Duke 390. It's so Lightweight & comfortable. Never caused back troubles again for me. [emoji4] [emoji16]
But, I like the Mojo though but weight is even more than ZMR, so I wouldn't buy it. Also, CBR is bulky as well. If pillion isn't of particular concern, I think you should choose a light-weight bike like the Dukes. Trust me all problems will be solved.

                      Re: Help to choose bike!

Dear Bikers, thanks a lot for all your messages, I wouldn't expected such great responses! Really indebted!!!

                      Thanks krishna77!

Thanks TheArcher84! In the past I tried 80km on/off road on my brother's Bajaj Pulser (with several Long breaks), but I find it little bulky especially off road. No gain without pain I love your idea of 10km test drive, I hope the test drive guy allow it

Thanks Aerofire! Hope BMW does not dig big hole in my pocket Most probably I will give a shot to CBR250R, Duke 390 and Mojo first!

Thanks shadcool786: seems like our conclusion is converging

Jack_daniels thanks again! I think being similar weight and height also back ache, we are like brothers!!! Will keep your suggestions to heart!
