If touring at 130 kmph is good enough for you, then the CBR 250 can help you do that all day long. Although underpowered compared to the 390, you could use a CBR temporarily until you have enough dough for a bigger bike.

I too got hit by a Wagon R today on my way to office. Was crossing a 🔀 kind of junction from left to right at minimal speed, 1-2 kmph. A Wagon R was behind me & I was about to take the left turn at the topmost right side. When all of a sudden saw a Yamaha R15 coming fast in the side lane. I braked to allow it to go past me. After it flew past, I was just about to make the left turn, when the Wagon R behind me struck my bike from the back & I fell down.
Thankfully, no damage to the bike. As I've crash guards fitted and it was minimal speed situation (1-2 kmph).

P.S.: I've noticed that even if ur a good rider, most of the time you've to anticipate the worst when on road. Of my last 3 falls (All at low speeds), 2 times autos struck me and today a Wagon R. It was absolutely no fault of mine at all!

At lower budgets you can look at CBR250 , Mojo , Himalayan & Benelli 25/300 .
Himalayan will need to wait and watch how it fares .
Else you can look at Harley Street 750 .
I took a HD street 750 for test ride. The bike is great. Handling is good too. But I get almost the same amount of power and fuel range on KTM 390. Of course I have to compromise on comfort riding posture. But Dukes riding posture had started to grow on me. I never really felt tired because of the riding stance. Only winds stressed the hell out of me when I ride over 500kms in a day at 130kmph and above.

Honestly my heart keeps coming back to Duke 390. I have a month to decide. Fingers crossed

Damn that's bad. I have managed to avoid such mishaps by other idiot drivers. It's only at high speeds where one needs to take right decisions in fraction of seconds.

I wish all our biker buddies a safe drive. [emoji4][emoji106]

The goal is to upgrade to a proper touring motorcycle like a BMW R1200S. Someday. [emoji28]

And I love that, and really make for an ideal cruisers too with some mods here and there. The chassis aren't that tough for a cruiser though. My Duke bent from centre, rims broken, all most all plastic broken into pieces, disks bent, and lots of other little stuff broken.
Good to hear your are alright after such an accident. However, at that speed, any bike would be totaled with the chassis bent or broken. A friend of my brother borrowed his THB350 and had a bad crash at 70-8-kmph and the bike was really bent(literally) like a U more than that I see in the pictures you have attached. Its good that you had all the riding gears on which so rare thing to see in India.

Hearing from other Benelli owners and seeing that you have traveled over 8000Kms in 4 months, I think you must have been on the road for most of the time. I doubt that a Benelli can run with that reliability. For what I hear, DSK's service sucks and you have to wait for parts over a month most of time. Please correct me if I am wrong. I too have a dream of buying a big bike (Naked, 600 or 800) and travelling all over India. But reliability is very important if this is case. Until at least DSK proves itself over the coming years.

If you are OK with getting a used bike, Z800 would be a good bet. If not, RE HIMALYAN AND Mahindra MOJO, Kawasaki Z250, ER6N (both naked and Kawasakis are known for reliability), Triumph Bonneville(both Comfort and power) or Ducati Scrambler Icon should be a good choice. Happy riding!

Re: KTM 390 totalled! 😔 Now what?

I was almost going to buy the Kawasaki Versys 650. The comfort is just too much. From someone who rides 810kms in 11hrs on Duke. The Versys is designed for long tours. As far as services are concerned. 8k kms for oil change and service intervals are honestly a little less for a bike that is targeted towards touring.

I am actually keeping hopes on Himalayan. RE has done a bike from ground up with a totally new engine, chassis and riding experience. Something that was tested to last in Himalayas can certainly do well at almost every roads or terrain.

I have always been a scrambler fan boy. But the there is still time for triumph and ducati to grow in India. Lack of service stations and spare parts is still an issue.

Re: KTM 390 totalled! 😔 Now what?

                  Hey,

Very sorry to know about the bike but proportionally happy to know you're okay. Things surely could've been much worse.

We can guess how bad you'd be feeling about the bike, especially when we feel so bad for even a scratch on our bikes.

Double thumbs up for investing in and using all the safety gear! 👍👍

I believe we all must learn from each others' experiences and ride smarter, safer and more defensive. Coz life isn't gonna give everyone a second chance like it has given you
My policy is to ride with negative expectations on road.

Coming to the suggestions, I feel if u have the time to wait n watch and/or are willing to take a bit of a risk, RE Himalayan would be a great fit. Or the proven Honda CBR250R ABS would be my humble suggestion.

We all would love to see you back and read/watch your travel experiences!

                  Ride safe! ✌

                  PS:
                  Good luck on this: 👍
