  • I'm in a dilemma. (Back Story & Need Options)

I'm in a dilemma as of today, I briefly spoke to my wife about my purchase of Apache 200 4V and she said that she was not happy of my soon to be purchased bike since it's not a tried and tested engine and it's a completely new bike which may or may not have any problems but why go for it when you can go for a Bajaj.. I guess she is into more of the Bajaj person. However as we were trying or I was trying to get her into how advanced the bike is and stuff she just said why don't you get a Bajaj Avenger? I was shut completely, I told her my younger brother just sold that bike to get her wife a Activa and she was like I'm not telling you to get a 2nd hand bike, go for the new one instead, I like the newer cruse and it shines like anything and I would be comfortable on it. Again my mouth was shut again the 2nd time. I told her baby this bike is comfortable as well, then she goes not as comfortable as a avenger, I agreed silently, then went on you tube and reviewed the newer cruse 220, then I started showing her the cons of the bike, stating no disc brake in the rare, older engine (tried & tested she said) it only has 2 valves (that doesn't mean the bike is bad she said) It's carb (it doesn't freeze in mumbai she said), the shocks are old (they upgraded it she said), the tyres are not tubeless ( since it's spoke wheels, tubed tyres are better she said) as the review was going on and I kept getting answers for every con I created to not buy the bike, then something hit me, why don't I buy the bike but I needed something to hold on to so I told her, Why don't we check the RS 200? she said sure, so as I was playing the review for the bike, she started saying that the bike looks sexy and the tail light is so bright and amazing, I told her I know but the price is nearly 30,000 more then Avenger she said then why don't you get the Avenger. I told her the price difference between the RS 200, RtR 200 4V and Avenger. She told me, just buy what you want and started paying attention to our little princess Manha so I do not know what hit me but I turned to her and said look, I know I want you to be happy with whatever decisions I make and it would make me happy If I go ahead and get a Avenger 220 Cruse. But the problem I'm facing now is I do not like the Drum brake it has in the back, so is there any Options for a cruiser other then Bajaj Avenger and no I do not want a RE since my wife doesn't like the sound of those machines and the vibes they put out. Also What other options I have, I have a budget of up to 2 lacs for a good Machine with safety options and as comfortable ride as a Avenger. It can be a 250 CC bike but not more then that so Mojo is out of question for right now, I'm still thinking about Mojo tho but as a last resort. Till then can you amazing people can share some help would be great.

Please share the options for the Cruisers that fit 2 lacs on road price or less (maybe a little more i can squeeze)

    Dilemma discussion approved!

Avenger version 1 wasn't very comfortable for the pillion as the seat had less width to seat both butts. It was prone to giving rashes over regular long distance rides. The back rest was good though.
Maybe that is addressed in version 2. Take a longish TR with wifey and see.

Also, RS and RTR200 may have similar pillion comfort.

If the new avengers pillion seat is same as the old one, then don't expect any pillion comfort. In my opinion Duke200 has a better pillion comfort than the old avenger.

Source: personal experience, sold avenger within a month when my friends and my GF(now, wife) kept complaining about how the narrow pillion seat is a pain in the butt (Literally). Then i tried sitting as a pillion, it was a disaster when the bike went through potholes.

Yes the Avenger's pillion seat is long, sitting saree style would be really comfy. But its very narrow.

It's a lot like nuts and bolts - if the rider's nuts, the ride - bolts!

Thanks, Personally I have spent time with the version one for many rides with wifey over long distances and I never found comfort in the rider seat due to not being regularly used as my own bike, but my wife has always found comfort during her pillion seatings with the back rest and ample long seat since she is tall but slim, me on the other hand am tall and healthy like a 2 year old baby ha ha ha. Even with 105 kgs on me I found that the cushion wasn't enough for my small butt but space everywhere eles was enough to ride the bike. Overall if I went thru speed breakers as a sane person the shocks are overall OK but with a bit more speeds and the shocks do give out and the bike bottoms out. Wife doesn't complain about the bike at all.

I wish I could get her to wear a Saree but on a good case that she is making she liked the version one and version two won't make a difference to her I guess.

Are there any other options I could also go for as a cruiser with a back rest?

I will be taking a TD on the RS, RTR if it comes in mid March, and going for Avenger ride of version 2.0 today evening at 5 pm at Ghansoli where the Bajaj lady has agreed to give me a 50 km ride on her 2.0 TD wheels with windshield. Let's see how that goes with my wifey. Oh and on a little funny side my baby Manha is in my hands and she was making an idle avenger sound from her little nose and mouth it was funny.

Please do share any other option with a back rest please, I booked a TD of the mojo as well today morning let's see if they come to Navi Mumbai side.

Edit:- Updates, I went for a Avenger Cruise ride with my wife and here is what we found out.
The seat is very comfortable now and has a bit of a high side then before, something about new form seats and stitched which is nice. The engine is much more smooth and it shows with less vibes but taking it over 70 kmph the engine again becomes a Bajaj but still minimal vibes then before then took it to 95+ and I get a smack upside my head on the helmet saying I'm here so took it back down to 70 😑but I noticed the vibes are there a bit less around the 95+ mark so yes that's a good thing.
The shocks have improved very much, doesn't bottom out at all and improves handling over bumps better then before also if I'm riding solo which I did for 10 mins I found the shocks to be stiff for the avenger but with pillion they are just the way you want it to be.
Brakes are fine but not the best, the front just trys to lock up whenever you try to induce some push and throw so try to use it as little as possible, in my case I tried to lock as solo but with pillion only board it was working better but wouldn't try to lock them up as I hate getting beat up by wife in middle of the road ha ha, I always wanted to say that just not out loud 😅 other then that it's a good machine and I also got a chance to ride a Tester RS 200 without abs and will be posting about it later since I have to take my family out to dinner in my Honda City. Later peeps

        .

Re: I'm in a dilemma. (Back Story & Need Options)

Back home so as I was saying, I test drove the RS 200 nonabs and it's a good bike overall, things I personally didn't like about the bike, the quality of switches, even though they are lighted they are not the best or near best quality switches, even though it's a tester bike, I felt vibes in the faring like a humming type of sound after the drive I asked what that sound was and was told that the bike was dropped by another customer and it created a crack in faring in middle of the two eyes projectors big enough for the wind to go thru and create a sound but I'm not sure that was the case. Overall I like the bike and my wife says that the bike is sexy, has good technology, and the pillion seat is comfortable for her but she doesn't like that it has no back rest, and I explained her for 10 mins why that's the case with sports bike. She told me if we were to get the RS 200 that I won't be modifying the bike further so I just winked inside my heart and said yes I won't but I know deep in my heart any bike I get that I will be modifying the bike to my taste at the least. Anyway now i only need to TD the Mojo, Rtr 200 but mojo is out of reach due to no service centers or show rooms near where I'm at and about the rtr it will come mid March. I still care about your opinions guys. So shoot right away

I'm not a fan of Honda personally even though I own a Honda City and Honda Activa in my house. Cbr250 is a nice engine but the looks are too outdated, Honda is known specially in India to be lazy with technology in their bikes, and only sell their bikes for their engine and not enough gadgets even by the lowest of standards. Even though I like the abs system in Cbr 25. Everything else is nearly outdated and they don't seem to OR going to update anything. Just look at other cbr family and ask if the cbr 250 fit inbetween any of them. So that's why it's off the list for now.

Buddy, the first spy shots of the RTR200 came as early as March of 2015. One has to assume the bike has been under stringent test procedures since then. It is safe to say the company has been testing the bike for 1 complete year.

Now after the bike hits the showrooms, if user related issues crop up that all depends on how the user has been riding the bike. The company in its testing phase would not have rode the bike like a maniac pushing the bike to its absolute limits. Thats not how bike testing works.

Now imagine, the Draken was supposed to be a 300cc liquid cooled monster instead they came up with a 200cc oiled cooled machine. There certainly must have been some limitations. Do go for RTR200 or if at all Bajaj then AS200.

Why don't you have a look at the yet to be launched UM Renegade? I know you'd be apprehensive about something which has yet not been launched here. But that's a tried and tested machine elsewhere. Will also add a fair degree of exclusivity to you.
You can also have a look at TB350.

I have heard about that machine as well as seen it around auto Expo I believe will do some research on it but I believe since its a new launch in India, service centers will be very least and finding one in navi Mumbai will be a problem.

Update I won't be going for UM since there won't be any service centers in navi Mumbai only in Mumbai side so that would be a pain in the butt. Also went to TVS and asked for 200 got the same answer other then that I also went to near by bajaj and found Bajaj V15 sitting there in black and red, it caught my eye for 2 sec before I actually knew what it was. Doesn't look as amazing as in pictures and it's lower but not that much as avenger. Will go and check it once again tomorrow, asked about it's on road the dealership said 75,000 rs and said I can get you one right away if cash payment or the wait time is 25 days or less. The one at dealership was black and red. By the way the pillion cowl is connected to the chassis with two screws and two washers, and takes close to one minute to remove without damaging the paint job near by.

You know, since you can strech your budget to 2 lacs, why dont you look at the cbr 250? Its a tried and tested bike. Its comfortable and really smooth to ride. If you have the budget its a much better option than the rs200.

Take a longish test drive of Both the bikes with your better half. Take an informed decision.

The thing is your heart is set on a naked, you are now deviating towards a cruiser looking bike. If you take that decision, you should be ready to live with it, because it will play in back of your mind forever.

Personally, I prefer a TVS over a Bajaj any day. (Personal experience + Bias)

Re: I'm in a dilemma. (Back Story &; Need Options)

Thanks a lot guys for the time spent on this thread, since time was less and I couldn't go with the TVS Apache RTR 200 ABS due to time and want to save some money for better gear (which is now used for some emergency purposes) Since I will be riding Solo most of the time (80%) and cruising speeds of only 60-80 Kmph.

I have decided to go with Bajaj V15 in Black, went ahead took a test drive and Wife loves the looks over all and the seats are very comfy comparable nearly to Avenger without back rest. I personally like the looks as well and the comfort it is providing for the price the company is asking. Not a fan of it's odometer even tho half of it is full LED and the other half is just Meh. Could have been better if they did make a circle digital meter with at least a trip meter, Rpm Indicator with eco mode/power mode. This should have been a option at least for those willing to shell out a few thousand rupees extra for cool stuff. I found that the engine was very smooth to operate, along with gears which was a blessing for this bike, 5 speeds to easily cruise along the highway looking good. Personally I enjoyed the Solo ride as well on this bike due to the cowl the bike gets a different stance completely. The paint quality is very Premium, switch lights quality is very much Bajaj like as always. The handle bar is where things get interesting, it has a wide bar which is wider then most bikes I have rode till date and it helps keeping your back straight, while the comfortable seats keep you in place the leg space is enough to move around the seat to find the perfect comfort spot, for being 5'11 it's a boon, the seats are wide, the headlight is nothing special other then 55 w, it's bright but again not the brightest, could have added DRL's but I'm planing to get Led pilot lamps anyway. The bike I was riding, didn't have sari guard, or any other things for now but the bike comes with all Indian goodies that we can live without. The engine likes to be revved but around 70-90 mark it loses the heat it makes early. So it's a nice city crawler that looks amazingly nice. Wouldn't mind the attention either way since my highway communicate is only 40% and 60% city it makes me drool with the price tag it carries. Overall came out happy. I also took a TD for Suzuki Gixxer Naked as well, and found the Suzuki having a upper hand in terms of the way bike speeds up thru the gears, but the seat quality was very very bad for me, since the pillion seat was touching my back making me irritated. Other then that. Rest on ownership.

Thanks again to everyone. Mod can lock this thread if possible, or if anyone have any questions I can answer them for you.
